While beautiful, wow. This kettle seems to have been designed to do everything a kettle should do poorly:–The base is the narrowest part, so the gas flame has to be turned way down. This makes boiling water take a very long time.–Turn up the flame and that tapered shape is also bad -- the handles will get too hot to touch.–To access the lid, at least one handle needs put down.–When pouring, go slow or water will drip out from underneath the lid.–How to tell when it's boiling? Better hope the environment is silent so you can faintly, FAINTLY, hear it.I was excited to have something different-looking live on my stovetop. However, it would seem that all of the kettles that look that same are really on-to something. Something that this oddball absolutely misses ... MoreWhile beautiful, wow. Love this unique teapot by Staub. Wonderful design, striking maroon color. So well made, I am sure this will be the last teapot I ever purchase! Downside, it's a bit heavy and does not whistle .... but, just make a habit of turning on the stove timer when turning on the heat!

Staub never disappoints! Beautiful tea kettle & is perfectly sized - a petite kettle, but it is sturdy/heavy due to cast iron material. No whistle which is preferred. Enameled cast iron is excellent quality. Maintains heat well. The grenadine color is beautiful. A great addition to my Staub collection. Highly recommend.

I have had this teakettle (in blue) for a few years now. I have to admit I bought it more as something beautiful to look at than to make tea with. And for that, it's PERFECT!That said, here are the major drawbacks as I see them.1. Awkward handles that fall down a lot. The two metal handles that close over the kettle kind of awkwardly fall down a lot, exposing them to the flame or heating element.2. The handles conduct heat very well, so if you are using a gas stove, the handle may get very hot and you need a mit to pour the water.3.There is no line inside the kettle telling you where the max fill water line is, so you may end up boiling water that comes belching out the front without warning.4. There is no whistle, so when boiling water, you must stay in ... MoreI have had this teakettle (in blue) for a few years now. There is no whistle, so when boiling water, you must stay in the room and keep an eye on the kettle until the water is boiling.5. It's cast iron so it's heavy in a way that makes in confusing as to whether there is still water in the kettle or not.6. It's relatively small, so there's probably only enough capacity to boil two cups of water at a time.7. It two piece design makes it a bit clunky and awkward to wash by hand. (Which I do.)So, yeah, I just felt like anyone else ogling this should have that information. Again, it really IS a beautiful piece and as a work of art, I love looking at it. I just think if I had to do it over again, I would get an attractive tea kettle that had more capacity, a heatproof handle, was lighter, and, of course, had a whistle!
Luv this kettle and the versatility of using not only for teas, but for heating liquidsPROs: Heats liquid quickly, easy clean up, tea infuser included and attaches to lidCONs: No whistle (for boiling water), capacity only holds 1 quart (approximately 4 cups)Wish: capacity to increase to about 3 quarts (12 cups)
I use this tea kettle 3-4 times daily. The kettle heats up very quickly (especially on induction ranges) easily supporting 2 tall tea cups of 12 oz (350 ml) each. This tea kettle is very distinctive and charming, but its VERY functional. To properly use the Tea Kettle, boil the water until a steady stream of steam vents from the spout. Fill your tea cups (1 or 2 ). Immediately after pouring the water, remove the top lid and place it on a Trivet or counter (its still cool enough to grab lid with hand). Then pour any surplus water into sink (with lid off). The cast iron kettle is still very hot ... any remaining water drops will evaporate from the heat.Voila - no clean up or pot holders needed. Please use your Staub Tea Kettle, its design to be used, it’s a workhorse.
In my quest for a non-made-in-China tea kettle, I decided to try the Staub. Though, even with a discount and a gift card, it's still not cheap, and in the end, not worth it. The green shade is lovely, and it's a cute little pot, but it is quite small and heavy. The spout does not pour smoothly, and the handles are awkward and clank around a lot (you have to put them on yourself, so they are not tight fitting). The biggest issue, however, and definitely a deal-breaker, is the lack of a whistle. Within two weeks of purchase, I had forgotten to set a timer, and left it on the burner too long. The enamel melted off the bottom of the kettle and onto the burner (electric stove). Both are still usable, but the burner is now solely relegated to the tea kettle. ... MoreIn my quest for a non-made-in-China tea kettle, I decided to try the Staub. Within two weeks of purchase, I had forgotten to set a timer, and left it on the burner too long. The enamel melted off the bottom of the kettle and onto the burner (electric stove). Both are still usable, but the burner is now solely relegated to the tea kettle. Unfortunately, last week I did the same thing -- this time it was on the burner for so long that the bottom interior bubbled. Our house is not very big, and when I have a normal pot on the stove, I can hear when it's boiling. But this tea kettle is solid and not going anywhere, so it's very difficult to tell from the next room that it's boiling.Granted, it is user-error, and I take full responsibility for the silliness. But no tea kettle should be so high maintenance, esp. one as expensive as this. I will never again buy one without a whistle! I had no idea it would be such an issue. I don't look forward to more research on the next one to buy -- most tea kettles are cheaply made, and even my favorite US pot/pan manufacturer makes theirs in China. (BTW, those cute little Staub pot-top critters are made in China as well)
This was a replacement kettle that I unfortunately needed as I accidentally boiled my previous one dry one day & the inside enamel was compromised. I was quite surprised by this ‘one & done’ mistake for such an expensive piece. But since it was a gift from my son, I was determined to get a replacement. While the new one looks good, the silver handles seem lighter weight ( bit flimsy) and not as well fitting ( so but floppy & noisy when using). Once again, not what I expected from Staub. Sadly.
I have this in grenadine, I think it’s so cute, and water seems to boil quickly. But it ends there. It doesn’t hold much. When trying to pour, two hands are required due to the design and weight. I hold the handle and the bottom of the pot with potholders. You need to stay around to listen for the boiling water. As I mentioned it does seem to boil water quickly, but that could be because of how little it holds, and the fact the pot is cast iron. My knob has a permanent mark on it that won’t clean off or polish out. Fingerprints are definitely noticeable on the shiny exterior. You can purchase a different knob to put on it if you choose. I bought the fish one thinking my daughter would appreciate it, but I took it off as we all agreed we liked the look much better of ... MoreI have this in grenadine, I think it’s so cute, and water seems to boil quickly. I don’t use it as much as I thought I would for tea because I’ve learned various teas need to be steeped at different temperatures, so an electric kettle serves my purposes better. But…it is cuuuute.
