Apparently grey is exclusive for Japan variant (undocumented on GSMArena). AU JP set or SOG05 is compatible with our 5G bands. Only issue is if you want to unlock bootloader for custom rom since SOG05 is not available for ubl. But you can pay RM100 for qunlocktool credit to remote unlock your Xperia phone. Even without that, this phone can run for at least 2 more years on A13. All in all, solid quality for great value phone tq seller. SG=Super Good!

This soundbar sounds amazing and has lots of options for connectivity. Setting up the soundbar was very easy with the on screen guide which took you through the setup process. The Dolby Atmos sound is very impressive for a soundbar and the demo mode is very helpful. The bass from this soundbar is very impressive considering I was not using a subwoofer at the time. This soundbar is also very compact considering it has two subwoofers and two separate tweeters. I am replacing my current soundbar and subwoofer with this one as the sound is much better, and I can save space as I will not be using a subwoofer. I may purchase a subwoofer in the future and I am very tempted for the rear wireless speakers which come in two flavours. Overall, a great phone
1 November 2021

I bought this phone just over a month ago, and overall I'm very pleased with it. The screen is brilliant for watching movies and trailers on You Tube and Netflix, but it needs to be brighter for outdoors, particularly when it's reasonably sunny. The phone is very fast which I love, and the Dynamic vibration system for watching films etc is brilliant, but there are a few issues that need to be resolved, hopefully by just a simple software update.1. The screen flickers on/off when holding the phone to my ear, which in turn hits buttons and activates certain features. This is extremely annoying and disruptive during a phone call, but it doesn't happen all the time which is a godsend.2. No separate Call /Notification volume. This should be a separate featur,e as if I turn the Notification volume higher to hear text messages, then I've got to have a louder ringtone, which I don't want. Please address this issue. My only other gripe, is that I didn't receive a pair of the free headphones with my phone, as apparently I missed the offer by 2 days from the O2 store which is really petty and frustrating, especially after opting for the flagship model.SONY, IF YOUR READING THIS REVIEW, COULD YOU PLEASE SEND ME A PAIR OF FREE HEADPHONES, IT'S A TOKEN GESTURE, AND WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATED IN ALLOWING ME TO SAMPLE THE EXCELLENT AUDIO CAPABILITIES OF THIS DEVICE.I haven't had the chance to try out the gaming performance of the phone yet, but I'm sure it will be excellent, especially with the large screen, high refresh rate and customisable Game Enhancer features. The same goes for audio, but that's partly down to not getting my free headphones with the handset, which is still a sore point, but again, I'm sure the sound will be amazing.I hope this in depth review has been beneficial to you.

Solid build, fast, fluid experience.

Recently replaced my aging Xperia XZ premium with a Xperia 1 iii - this being my third Sony smartphone following a Z3 some years ago.As is to be expected, the hardware is excellent; build quality is solid and it has a real premium feel.I purchased the Frosted Grey finish and it looks good in a clear case. The user experience is fast, fluid and responsive, though some of the newer software features feel a little awkward; the side-sense bar in particular - while I love the split-screen and screen-in-screen capabilities, the new floating side bar seems to get in the way of scrolling no matter where it's placed. I'll likely end up disabling it if it continues to irritate. Also the choice made to abandon a native photo gallery app feels like a misstep? I'll likely end up disabling it if it continues to irritate. Also the choice made to abandon a native photo gallery app feels like a misstep? Google photos attempted to vacuum up my snaps while I initially set up the phone, and quickly ran out of "free" space before demanding I pay for more storage.Having deleted all my photos from this service before (for the same reason!) I found it frustrating to have to laboriously do so again. Currently just navigating photo and video through the 'files' app, but I'll be looking at other gallery options going forward.I'm also not entirely amused about the bloatware included - Asphalt 9 being a particular bug bear - there's just no need for it! And blocking users from uninstalling is not good practice.Overall the positives greatly outweigh the negatives though, so a good four stars from me.The only other complaint presently is that the 21:9 aspect seems to cause some letterboxes on some apps (such as TikTok) where they're scaling to meet the top and bottom of the screen and cutting off the sides. This may just be a small oversight and something that will resolve itself as the apps update.

Solid, reliable phone.

I have upgraded from an Xperia 5 ii to the 1 iii because I wanted a larger screen. Sony phones are so well built, reliable and extremely functional. I like the frosted back to the 1 series compared to the slippery gloss of the 5.I would never have an Apple device and Samsung has lost the plot as far as I am concerned. Sony still allows you to connect jack accessories and you can expand the memory with micro SD cards. Why would a manufacturer stop you doing this? Oh, yes, to sell you cloud storage, if course! There are a couple of negative points that I'd mention. Firstly, Sony has done a real dirty on people by not including Sony Gallery on new devices. May as well not have it, it is so weak.

Great build quality, awesome noise cancelling ear buds, front firing stereo sound, crisp colorful and bright screen (120 hz, 4K and OLED, and you can tell, its gorgeous), water resistant, light, thin, fast, nearly stock Android (you choose your apps, bloatware accusations are false), good battery with bi-directional wireless charging. Its a flagship every bit as good as a Sammy or Apple, its priced the same or better since it comes with a 30w charger (Samsung & Apple want you to buy that separately). Seriously if youll lay down $1300 for the latest Apple or Samsung, why should a premium flagship phone from Sony be called overpriced at the same pricepoint? Oh, and you can add up to 1TB via SD, it has a headphone jack and best of all, its supported by AT&T and T-mobile, and probably Verizon, but check that one if you need it. For anyone serious about photography, or video/cinematography, the Sony camera pedigree is strong, and the Xperia 1 iii doesn't disappoint. The cameras are good, and the Sony camera software suite borrows a great deal from their Alpha cameras and it shows. If you are into photography. The Xperia 1iii wont replace a full blown Sony DSLR, but it obliterates the point and shoot phone cameras. Heck, it even has an optical zoom up to 4.4x magnification - that really works. If you want an unlocked phone you own, and are in the market for a flagship phone, you should look at the Xperia 1iii, ignore the naysayers and Samsung/Apple apologists and buy the phone you want, with the features you want.If you are in the market for a Sony Phone, what are you waiting for, get this, you wont regret it.I do own this phone, it arrived this week, but i did not buy it on this account. If you are going to use the phone in North America, you absolutely must get the US edition - XQBC62 - the international models may not work with US carriers. Sadly US carriers persist with forms of vendor lock in that breaks standards like VoLTE - AT&T calls it HD Voice, and only allows devices it sells or the select ones it whitelists to play. That whitelist does include the Xperia 1iii and the Xperia 5iii, but ONLY the north America models.

Sony's best phone yet by a mile !

I haven't upgraded my Sony Xpeira XZ Premium phone mainly because of 2 reasons, namely I need an earphone socket, (I have a lot of wired earphones and have no intention of not using them) and secondly my doubts about the practicality of the 21:9 display.Well, firstly Sony did listen to their customers and didn't follow a certain company 'like sheep' and have put an earphone socket on this phone, which is positioned logically on the top, I could never understand why some manufacturers put it on the bottom.I do like and use wireless earphones but I still like to use my wired earphones also.Secondly what about the very different 21:9 display, is it a problem ?Well no, at first it did feel a little strange, but then I very quickly realised it was much easier and ... MoreI haven't positioned logically on the top, I could never understand why some manufacturers put it on the bottom.I do like and use wireless earphones but I still like to use my wired earphones also.Secondly what about the very different 21:9 display, is it a problem ?Well no, at first it did feel a little strange, but then I very quickly realised it was much easier and nicer to hold and I began go appreciate it, especially the fact you can split the screen and have 2 apps displayed rather than just one.The really spectacular advantage was when I watched a film on Netflix, and it filled the whole screen - it made me realise how much of the picture I was missing when watching films on my 4K TV, but it just isn't wide enough to see all of the action. This phone is so light, yet 'balanced' and it feels so right sitting in your hand and after 2 days I much preferred it to the standard screen ratio.Once again Sony have retained the fingerprint scanner on the power button and to me that is the most logical and certainly the best place for it, so easy to use, especially if you use your thumb like I do, no fiddling about to find the scanner 'somewhere' on the back, or having to use your other hand to touch the screen !I find the scanner very reliable and very, very rarely have to touch it a second time to get it to respond, it is an excellent feature. The phone has the new Gorilla Glass Victus (supposedly the best scratch resistant version) on the front and Gorilla Glass 6 on the back but no matter what, I always get a 'full case' for protection, this is an expensive phone and I can never understand why people don't invest just a few pounds for a decent case... you get your money back when you sell or exchange it and it is in 'mint condition' but more importantly the phone feels so much more secure with a case on.It comes with Android 11 already installed, and there were no updates to install, but the only things I found were missing were Sony's excellent 'Mail' and 'Calendar' Apps, which I managed to transfer from my Sony XZ Premium, because, for some reason they aren't in the Google Play store. The 4K HDR OLED screen is just out of this world, I thought the XZ Premium was good, but this is THE best phone screen I have ever seen, especially if you watch movies, the colour and sharpness are just amazing. Now onto the main features, I was a professional photographer so the camera function is very important to me.The three Zeiss T* lenses on the phone are 16mm, 24mm and then there is a 70-205mm optical (NOT the inferior digital) zoom lens, and each lens is rated at 12MP, these are amazing lenses considering their size, but there again they are Zeiss lens, arguably one of, if not the, best lenses in the world. There is also a 8MP front facing camera for selfies too. There are just so many options for the camera, shutter speed, aperture size ISO settings and even aspect ratio. The one feature though that makes this the best camera on a phone is the inclusion of a 'dedicated shutter button', so much better than having to 'prod the screen', it is impossible to take top class photos without this button, as you need to hold the phone perfectly steady and I will argue that point with anyone.I own a Sony DSC-HX99 camera so the Photo App was familiar to me and I will say the App can cater for everyone, from beginners (use the 'auto' mode) to people that want full control ('manual' mode) with other inbetween options, such as aperture and shutter priority etc, so there is something for every taste and ability.I must admit I tend to use full auto mode unless something doesn't turn out the way I want, then I will use the manual mode, but the Auto mode is so good that 95% of photos I take I use Auto, and rarely use the manual option but it is there if I want to get 'creative' too.You can of course start to use the various functions as and when you feel the need and have the confidence you can use the various modes as a learning tool,I can honestly say there will be a lot more times when I will leave my normal digital camera at home and just use the cameras on this amazing phone as it is very capable.I found that the low-light function just keeps getting better, and I also found that turning the flash off altogether in low light can actually lead to better exposed and detailed pictures on some occasions (this is because of improvements in the sensors), it is a case of experimenting, which is half the fun of photography.Colour rendition is also important, but for me personally I can find no fault with Sony in this respect, other may disagree, and once again it is a personal thing and opinions vary as they always have in photography.Of course there is also a video function too, which I have only used briefly for a couple of short videos, but I was suitable impressed.Once again there are loads of features and adjustments in the App too.The auto-focussing feature, once again is amazing, and just so fast, it locks on and follows the action, so you will never miss a shot because it is out of focus. The speakers are surprising loud, and instead of having to use them at maximum volume I am more than happy to use them at 50% volume now and they are so clear too.I paired my Sony WF-1000XM4 noise cancelling earphones with the phone along with my older Sony Ear, and can say that they paired first time with no problems.I listened to a variety music and I was very pleased with the results, there is of course a graphic equiliser to fine tune your experience because some people like 'treble', whilst others, like me prefer 'bass'.Listening is such a personal experience though, so you won't find two people that will agree, all I can say the bass/treble on this phone is so tuneable, I can't see how anyone can criticise it, that goes for the inbuilt speakers as well they are a lot clearer and louder than my Sony XZ Premium, and I thought they were good.People tend to review sound quality 'out of the box' and I have never had any phone, Sony or otherwise, that has come anywhere near how I like it straight away, you NEED to tune it to your own taste, so please take the time to do that.I have a very eclectic taste in music, from Classical, to light opera, to Kylie, Sia etc etc and all sounded good on this phone.I put in a 512GB microSDXC Card, formatted it on the phone then added most of my music collection, which is generally high end MP3 but I will be trying other formats, like LDAC, in the future to get the best experience I can.I was looking forward to experience the latest Qualcomm® Snapdragon 888 5G offering but unfortunately there is no 5G available in my area at the moment, so I can't comment and will have to wait until 5G becomes more widely available. What I do know though is that the Snapdragon 888 is blazingly fast, with no hesitation when you open apps or swipe the screen, it just flies. It is of course supplemented with a massive 12MB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage to which you can add up to 1TB of storage on a microSD card if you don't need or want to install a second SIM card.I used the phone quite a lot the first week mainly just playing around, phone calls, texting, downloading apps, playing music etc and at the end of the day the lowest battery reading I got at the end of the day was 45%, and I reckon when I 'settle down' to normal use it will last 2 days, although I must point out I turn it off and charge it wirelessly during the night as I don't appreciate phone calls at 2am in the morning for starters. If you have other wireless charging devices, you can if you so wish, use the phone as a charging pad itselfIt of course uses the now common USB-C socket for charging, so you don't have to start wondering which way up the plug goes in the charging socket, as either way will work.Uniquely Sony actually include a 30W fast charger Plug, but of course you can also charge it wirelessly if you so desire, which is what I tend to do overnight.I do realise this is also a good 'gaming' phone, especially if you are a Play Station owner and having a 120Hz refresh rate will make games run and look so much smoother.Unfortunately I am not a gamer (not skilful enough !), except for the very occasional simple Android game so I can't really comment on that function, but I feel sure gamers will love this phone because of the refresh rate, the wide 16:9 screen, 240Hz Motion Blur reduction and vivid colours on the screen. The Xperia 1 III features IP65/6833 water resistance and protection against dust, which is reassuring, so no worries of you get caught out in a shower. To sum up, this phone has so much on it, I have only touched on a fraction of what this phone is capable of, it is such a joy to own and use.It is literally a powerful mini computer a far cry from the first mobile phones and a real step up from the last generation phones too, trust me you will be really impressed with this phone.I will have to treat my wife to this phone now as she thinks it is excellent too and now has 'phone envy' !Thank You for taking the time to read this review, I hope it has been useful.

Xperia Phones brake too easy
4 April 2024

I am a Sony fan, or should I better say, I was.Sony always made quality products, was the slimmest or the fastest or the lightest. Now, they are just like any other Chinese or Korean manufacturer. Just, the quality doesn't keep on with their rivals. It all starts, that they do not get the temperature problem under control. Then, suddenly, after one year, the fingerprint sensor got deactiated, with no chance to use the fingerprint login again. And then the body .... It is probably my fifth Xperia in 7 years, they are breaking so easy. Last one had a micro crack in the glass, now I have a crack in the backside body (how is that even possible?).
