In fact as soon as I turned the speaker on after it's initial full charge, a pop up window came up saying simply "connect" and that was the job done with a satisfying start up tone. The tone of the XB 100 is very good providing a nice balance of bass with smoothly delivered high notes once your music starts to play. The speaker uses a sound disperser or diffuser to give wonderfully clear sounds no matter where yo place your speaker in listening area - and, believe me, it has plenty of volume. These days I like quite a mix of music and occasionally listening to audio books. So I listen to Jazz, Motown, Pop and Classical and pretty much anything else that takes my fancy. Everything I tried has played extremely well through the XB100 and I felt enhanced quite a bit to some Motown and Classical tracks. I really enjoy the richness of sound provided by this small and easily carried speaker.Initially I was puzzled when the output briefly "muted" when in use, but quickly realised this was due to not changing my phone notification settings so easily fixed. One to be aware of !Something I also really enjoyed was playing Reels from Instagram and Facebook - these become much more enjoyable when you play your phone sound through the XB-100.Finally, I was surprised by an incoming phone call and how easy it was to answer the call using the speaker. Very similar to using ear phones of course but very easy and for me, more enjoyable.I have to conclude that @ £55 this versatile, weatherproof and highly desirable speaker is worth every penny and you will be impressed!

When I first took the XB100 out of the box, I was impressed at its elegant design. It comes with a short USB Type-C charge cord, but I didn't bother charging it, I just hit the power button and it turned on with a welcome tone. Almost immediately, my android smart phone pinged, and a pop-up listed the XP100 available for Bluetooth pairing, I tapped connect, and it paired instantly. Within seconds I was listening to my favourite music playlist through the speaker. What incredible bass! And a full surround sound experience. The speaker is fantastic. I can tell from having used it outdoors and around the house, even in the shower, that it is durable, compact and light. It has plenty of battery life - 16 hours on full charge - and, since it is waterproof and dustproof with an IP67 rating, it is perfect for listening at home or when out with friends. I love the multiway strap which is easy to clasp or unclasp and you can use it to hang the speaker from your backpack, or a shower head, for example. If you don't like having the strap attached, you can remove it easily. A nice touch is that the remaining batter percentage shows on your smartphone when the XB100 is connected. I even tried out the hands-free calling through the XB100 speaker with its built-in mic. I've called a few people using my smart phone with the XB100 connected, and the audio quality coming from the speaker and what was recorded through the mic was excellent. The echo cancelling is a nice touch, which lets you and your caller talk at the same time without cutting each other off. I also tested the quality of the mic recording, using a voice recorder app on my phone. The audio captured was crisp and clear. I also use the speaker connected to my laptop to boost the audio quality and volume of streaming videos or video calls. Overall, I am impressed with the performance of this great little speaker. I'm thinking of getting a second one to pair via Bluetooth, for stereo sound.

As a regular traveller for work, I often stay in hotels with the minimum of entertainment in their rooms. A basic TV is a luxury in some places. A deep quality bass, no distortion as you turn up the volume. I thought my smaller Sony speaker purchased 5 years ago was good but the new model is in another league. On the lower body of the speaker is the controls, for Bluetooth, volume control, switching tracks & taking a call, although these controls are duplicated on most modern phones. A small rubber cover pulls back to access the charging socket. The cover is attached to the speaker so it won’t get mislaid. All that is supplied with the speaker aside from instructions & legal wording is a short charging cable with a USB plug. Ideal for carrying around as it’s not bulky. As you’d expect from a Sony device, it’s very well made, good quality construction & able to withstand knocks & scuffs over time. I’ve been using various Sony products over the past 45 years & have never had a Sony device that come apart or failed in any way. Given that level of quality reputation, this speaker will give you years of use if looked after.Would I recommend one of these speakers?Definitely yes, you may buy cheaper speakers but you won’t get the quality sound & construction that this model has.
I was able to get an XB100 Sony Compact Bluetooth Speaker at the exact right time from the Tech Insider program! We took this little speaker on a family vacation so my kids could listen to something different in the back of the van than we did up front. First thing I noticed was that this speaker, for how small it is, was able to get very loud! I could hear it pretty well from the front seat of the 12 passenger van at freeway speeds. While the box claims to get 16 hours per charge we were getting maybe 8-10 hours but also had it up much louder than the paperwork included said (it says on 25 but there’s not really a gauge of what the volume is).Inside the box is the speaker with warranty info, quickstart guide, and instructions for use. Unlike some speakers I was pleased to find a nylon/fabric loop to hang the speaker if you want, although the loop is made of a plastic hook on one side and a stitched loop at the end of the other that slides over the hook. The lack of a full closure makes me hesitant to hang it from anything more than a foot or so but the fabric seems strong so it may be OK. On the speaker you have a power button with charge indicator light below, Bluetooth indicator/pair button, play/pause/answer phone button above a mic (yes, it lets you take hands free calls too), and finally the volume up and down buttons. There’s also a USB-C charge port under a connected rubber plug that sits flush when not charging.I love the size of the speaker and that it’s smallness doesn’t feel like I’m missing out on big sound, its clear and offers enough volume to hear in a noisy environment (obviously your milage may vary based on tastes and how refined your hearing/listening is). The ability to pick it up without looking and use the buttons based on raised icons is nice but not unique to this speaker (although the soda can size/shape makes it easier than most to keep a solid grip while finding the button on the side). If I really think about it the only thing I found disappointing was the hanging loop seeming a little sketchy for higher positioning (and looking at it I might be able to cut it off and modify a camping strap or something around the metal pin the strap wraps around). If you’re looking for a small speaker that doesn’t mind getting wet for camping, beach trips, road trips, etc. then I’d recommend this little round speaker. I didn’t drop test it or anything and as I’ve mentioned I can’t speak to how that strap will stay connected long term but if you’re even halfway careful this shouldn’t be an issue. Recommended highly!
Bluetooth speakers are a dime a dozen these days, it's difficult to make one that truly stands out, particularly since they can be had so cheaply. I will admit I had high hopes for this one and it mostly delivered. To start, it's packaged in a small unassuming box with two small pieces of literature and the speaker itself shrouded in a cloth bag, which is a nice touch.Upon powering it up and putting it in pairing mode, I opened the bluetooth settings on my Galaxy S21 Ultra and was actually greeted with a message from the speaker asking to be paired, rather than having to select the device and connect it myself. I found this to be a rather nice experience when setting up the device. I found this to be a rather nice experience when setting up the device. It left very little to be confusing about and it just 'worked'.Once connected I loaded up Amazon music and listened to a few different songs. The speaker is small so you cant really expect room-filling music, but with that being said it does get quite loud, and the open slots on the bottom are for the down-firing mini-subwoofer to move some air, which is definitely cool as it shows there was some thought put into the design. Where it falls just a TINY bit short (no pun intended) is the balance of the mids and highs. When playing Angels Fall by Breaking Benjamin, I found the higher notes to get a little muddy when played with a lot of lows and mids. However, when highs are played a little more exclusively, like some of the higher vocal tones in Bohemian Rhapsody, I found the experience to be far more pleasant. All in all it is a good little speaker, if not incredible, but if you're in the market there are a number of things done correctly here, including the setup experience and that downfiring subwoofer. Worth your consideration.
## DesignThe Sony SRS-XB100 speaker is a small yet surprisingly mighty Bluetooth speaker that can easily accompany you on hikes, trips, or simply lounging by the pool. It has a cylindrical shape that measures just under 4 inches in height and about 3 inches in diameter. It weighs less than a pound and comes in black, blue, and orange color options. A detachable carrying hand strap is included (something I really appreciate it!).## PerformanceSpeakers at this size typically lack decent bass, but that's not the case with the SRS-XB100. Setting it on a table or up against a wall enhances the bass response nicely. If you have it hanging from your backpack or a chair, for example, the bass response is less noticeable, but still much better than many of the speakers ... More## DesignThe Sony SRS-XB100 speaker is a small yet surprisingly mighty Bluetooth speaker that can easily accompany you on hikes, trips, or simply lounging by the pool. Setting it on a table or up against a wall enhances the bass response nicely. If you have it hanging from your backpack or a chair, for example, the bass response is less noticeable, but still much better than many of the speakers I've used at this size. While playing P!nk's "Just Like a Pill", I could feel the small vibrations from the speaker's bass through my desk while working. It has maybe just a tad less bass than my JBL Clip 4 speaker, but depending on the song, you may not notice. Mid's and highs also come through clear and the sounds does not sound "muddy" or "tinny" at all.Given the size, the speaker does not get very loud, but it is fine for a small or medium-sized room, or for a small gathering in the backyard or even for tailgating with some friends. However, if you do need to spread the sound across a larger area, the speaker can be paired with another SRS-XB100 speaker (and only the same model) for stereo sound.## Features- Carrying strap: I love when a speaker has a built-in carrying strap as it makes it easy to carry around the house while doing chores or to hang it from a tree branch when working outside.- Bass: Sony states this speaker features an improved driver and sound diffusion processor for richer bass and expansive sound. Again, this speaker is best for smaller spaces, but the bass is very good and sound is definitely not muddy nor tinny as you might find with cheaper portable speakers.- Speakerphone: The speaker has a built-in mic and can be used as a speakerphone or for conference calls. It features echo cancelling technology and allows two people to talk at the same time.- IP67 waterproof and dustproof: The speaker can be your outdoor buddy with both waterproof and dustproof properties. You can use it poolside or even at the beach, although the manual states not to place the speaker directly on sand (I'm guessing because sand is a pain to get out of the grills of any speaker).- UV coating: I don't know if I've seen this on a Bluetooth speaker before, but you can let this speaker bask in the sun worry-free thanks to the UV coating, which should help improve the longevity of the exterior in the sun.## Battery LifeThe speaker can last up to 16 hours on a single charge (playing at a relatively low volume) and it takes about 4.5 hours to recharge with a USB-C charging cable.## SummaryThe Sony SRS-XB100 is a compact yet great-sounding speaker ideal for travel and outdoor adventures. Sound quality and bass are very good, and the handy carrying strap makes it easy to tether from a backpack or tree branch.
Sixty dollars for the Sony XB100 Wireless Speaker? This is literally a steal for what you are getting. We have a couple different Bluetooth speakers in the house from a well known audio manufacturer whose name is four letters long and starts with the second letter of the alphabet, and this Sony is easily their equal for both sound quality and for design. And at a fraction of the price. The XB100 is a cylinder slightly bigger around than a soda can, shorter than a soda can, weighs nine and a half ounces, and is covered in a soft-touch rubberized coating. It has a fabric strap (that can be removed) for carrying or hanging, making it handy to take places rather than just using it around the house. The grille for the single, top-firing driver is sturdy, perforated metal. There are four ports around the bottom of the unit through which sound emanates from the passive radiator at the bottom of the unit. Sony claims 16 hours of battery life per charge which should be more than enough for a day away from home. The included charging cord is 12 inches long and consists of a USB-C connector that plugs into the speaker and a USB-A connector that plugs into a charging block (not included) or some other port that will supply power.Sony claims that the XB100 performs to certain industry waterproof and dustproof specifications, although I didn’t experience either of those conditions. Because of that, the charging port is contained behind a small rubber door that is attached to the unit by a seriously stout tether. The control buttons are behind the rubber facade covering the speaker and are marked by raised symbols that are painted white on my dark gray-colored unit. The play/pause button also lets you skip forward to the next track by pressing it twice in quick succession and pressing it three times goes back to the beginning of the track or to the previous track. You can also answer and hang up calls with this button. When I first received the XB100 I felt that is was unusually light in weight (probably to enhance it being portable), but I must say Sony’s engineers worked some real magic when it comes to the sound quality this small speaker puts out. Music presents with both crisp highs and some really good sounding bass response especially considering its size, and I believe the passive radiator on the bottom makes a true difference. While containing a small microphone opening by the controls, the sound quality of speech when on a phone call is superb. I usually use my ear buds for long conversations to help with sound clarity, but this little Sony speaker does just as well, if not better for those calls. For the price point of the XB100, no one should be disappointed with the quality they are receiving. As an added bonus, you can pair a second XB100 with it and have true stereo sound from your media source. And for the price of this unit I may do just that. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to a friend to just go ahead and buy two at a time, even without auditioning them…they are that good.
I needed a new Bluetooth speaker to use at home and decided to try out the brand-new Sony SRS XB100 compact speaker since it listed many great features found in more expensive products. I have always had positive experiences with Sony audio products over the years and expected the small speaker to be a good quality product. When I unboxed it I was pleased to see the materials on the speaker did make it look like a modern good quality item. I appreciated the fact that a USB C charging cable was included with it for being able to maximize the rechargeable battery life. The paperwork included with the speaker stated it could last up to 16 hours when fully charged. I found it impressive that the speaker would last longer than 8 hours which would probably the max time I would use it in one day.I was able to quickly setup the speaker and pair it with an Android smartphone and an IOS iPhone so I could test out the difference in how it functioned with each type of phone. I knew there was a Sony music app that could be used for adding apps to the speaker and to help manage the settings so I tried it out on each device. I also used the speaker without the Sony app so I could see if it made any difference on being able to control the sounds or tweak the settings. The first day of playback of music with my smartphones next to my bed with the speaker on the floor provided rich sounds that I would normally come from a much larger speaker, so I was impressed. Sony listed a sound diffusion processor in it so it made sense why it seemed to fill the area with plenty of sound. The second day I tried it in my office on a desk and was not as impressed with the sound from the speaker, so I knew I needed to do more testing to find out what the real issue was for the best sound. I had used Spotify and Apple Music when testing out the sounds and honestly in my opinion the speaker sounded the best when playing music via Spotify. I am sure everyone’s experience is different, so I am just suggesting trying different apps if you do not like the quality of the sound you receive with your first source of music. I did also use some of the settings for the EQ on the android phone which helped out even more to be able to get even higher quality sounding music. The pros of the device is that it takes up very little space, is easy to carry around with or without the included strap, also it has the long-lasting rechargeable battery, and is compatible with all newer Bluetooth devices. It also has a waterproof rating that is really minimal if you read the fine print so I would keep it away from any potential falling into a pool or getting submerged completely in water. The cons of the device is mainly the ability to easily tweak the EQ settings of the speaker without resorting to apps or other settings. Also, the speaker produces plenty of sound but is not great for a party with many people since you would need a much bigger speaker for the environment, but Sony has the new bigger models out too.Overall, I think it is a successful execution of the vision Sony had for a small portable speaker that could provide enough sound to enjoy your favorite music in various settings and is compatible with most Bluetooth devices.
I’m new to the XB series of bluetooth wireless speakers. I think the SRS-XB100 is the 3rd or 4th iteration of the small wireless XB (extra bass) speaker line. I’m more familiar with the older generation SRS-X11 wireless bluetooth speaker which I have been using for some years (up until now). The XB100 is larger than my old X11 speaker and designed to be waterproof and dustproof so they can be taken out and about with minimal worry. It has a convenient carry strap (which can also be removed if not needed). The XB100 textured rubberised surface is very nice. It’s full range speaker is protected by a grill where as it’s passive radiator, located towards the base, partially obscured. There are buttons for power, bluetooth, and volume. The play/pause button also serves as track skip (when playing music). If there is an incoming call the same button will allow calls to answered (or ended) to allow the unit to be used as a speaker phone which I found very useful. The XB100 does not directly give battery status but the battery status is shown in the Sony Music Centre app. The same information is also shown in my android phones own bluetooth connection settings. Although the XB100 is shown in the Sony Music Centre app there is no option to use to speaker as part of a group of other speakers as the XB100 does not have Wi-Fi support.I’ve been using the XB100 around my home (living room, kitchen, and bedroom) and I found the XB100 to have a surprisingly full sound for its size. It’s a very different sound compared to my SRS-X11 (which sound lightweight in comparison) because its an XB speaker. Interestingly, the highs were also extended. The sound of the XR100 is closer to the SRS-X33 in terms of its bass output and overall sonic output, there is plenty of bass energy. Wherever I used the XB100 it gave a much more dynamic and musical representation compared to my X11 speaker. The battery performance was fantastic as I could easily get through a normal days use (listening to music, streaming videos, listening to podcasts etc) without the battery running down. One surprising omission is that there is no aux port so devices without bluetooth cannot be connected with the speaker. I guess its a speaker designed for modern times where connecting wirelessly is preferred. Fast Pair technology has replaced NFC for quick bluetooth connectivity.Just like my SRS-X11 speaker, the XB100 can be paired with another XB100 to form a stereo pair. That is how I have been using the X11 and that is how I shall be using the XB100 once I get another unit.
