This review is for the kit of cage with cable clamp. The cage works great! Fits snug to my R5 body and the not one but two pins on the bottom that keep the R5 body from rotating in the cage are well designed. The NATO rail on top is a nice addition. The Cable Clamp, however, is terrible--its one function is to hold a mini HDMI and USB-C cable in place. But even at its widest opening, I could not fit a single HDMI or USB cable in between the vice grips. I wanted to return just the Cable Clamp, but since I purchased as a *kit* I had to return it as a kit. So B&H charged me return shipping that is half the cost of the clamp alone. Ugh! Good build. Strong and secure. Practical design with a lot of adaptability. Minimal footprint with a lot of potential to add other components. Perfect for adding a screen or microphone to your rig. Highly recommend.

This is a well-fitting, quality cage that allows quick mounting on tripods, as well as attachment of all sorts of accessories. I have a handle on top, to which I attach an external microphone so I can easily record video from low angle and smoothly change angles (hand-held, without gimbal). One problem is that the frame is close to the rubber port cover on R6, so when I want to insert the 3.5 microphone plug and have to rotate the cover out of the way, there is no room. I had to tuck in one corner of the cover in the gap between the body and the cage. Not a big issue, but it feels like I had to force it, which might (or might not) cause damage to the cover.

I used the SmallRig camera cage on my Canon R5 for a few weeks until my battery grip arrived and now I have to decide which one I need the most for each shoot. I always keep the SmallRig in my camera bag, it is pretty easy to attach and detach from the camera and gives me more connecting points around my camera. I have a few of these for all my still and video cameras so I'm familiar with how the work and that provides me with a lot of options. The cage also allows easy access to the battery housing so swapping out batteries with the cage on doesn't pose much of a problem.
The single screw hole on the bottom of the R5C had been very frustrating as it allows the camera to eventually twist loose during run and gun shoots.This cage solved that problem for me since it has the two anti twist pins to keep the cage securely attached to the camera, and then has multiple screw holes on the bottom that give me more than one point of contact to whatever I attach it to.It has the added bonus of giving me more mounting points along the sides and top as well and provides a little bit of extra protection for the camera. It fits well around the R5C and didn't obstruct any buttons, battery door, or ports.
I purchased this product twice. I had no reason for returning it the first time, other than I was curious to try the Tilta version. The Tilta version was terrible, so I bought this one again. The guy who reviewed this product and complained about the cable clamps and how you couldn't fit cables through it didn't know how to use it properly. That feature is wonderful, as is the overall design. Love that they include installation tools with their products as well. The tools are magnetic and recessed enough to where they store properly. Highly recommend.
This cage fits my R6 great. Love the anti-twist pins that caused issues when using other cages. For the price, this cage is perfect. The NATO rail on top along with the cord clamp accessory makes for a great rig set-up.
I'm using this cage on the R5 C. Cables, battery door, and monitor are all accessible. If you use the rf to ef adapter with filter slot, you need to remove the adapter whenever switching filters which is a minor inconvenience. Also, the cage would benefit from another point of contact at the top of the camera because there is a bit of flex at the top.
I bought two of these as 'preventive medicine' for my R6s. It seems Canon chose to internalize the tightening of the Hot Shoe screws and both my R6s came down with loose/disconnected Hot Shoes. I bought this cage and coupled it with the Vello(1.5') Off-Camera TTL Flash Cord to connect my Canon 600s strobes. If the strobe gets bumped heavy...it breaks the strobe and not the camera. As for the rest of the benefits of the bracket, it fits like a glove BUT...the image B&H has on the website is not the one I received. I like the one I received better as it does not place the hot shoe on an angle.
First let me say the transaction was great! As far as the product, its very well made, and fits the camera nicely but it works with limitations.1- you can't fully rotate the screen as it's blocked by the side bracket and the opening does not allow for full articulation. 2-you have to slide the bracket too far away from the camera to fully utilize the cable release input. Would I recommend you buy it naww. After using it a few times, I wish I could return it as I don't use it.
