Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo Ultralight Tent Green

I have had my Lunar Solo for a few years now, so this is a little late. But it's never too late to let people know 1) what a great tent this is and 2) the awesome level of customer service provided by the folks at Six Moons. The tent itself is lightweight but tough and very packable. Obtaining the perfect pitch is a breeze although I have had difficulty setting up in very high winds (think 40-50 mph at GUMO). The interior is spacious and well ventilated; the Lunar Solo checks all the boxes for a great trekking pole tent. Now for the people at Six Moons--they are the best! I had an issue with the tent having a teeny defect; they made good on the replacement AND threw in seam sealing because I had already done that myself. The return and replacement was accomplished in like two weeks so I was able to make my planned trip. Also, I have had a Silver Shadow Carbon Umbrella for a few years as well and used it extensively for both rain and shade. When one of the ribs popped out, I contacted Six Moons to see about a repair. They replaced the umbrella!! I did not ask them to and was more than happy to send it in for repair, but they insisted on replacing it. What great people!! And, yes, if you are thinking about getting a Silver Shadow and are unsure, just do it. I use mine even more than I thought I would!!

I have setup this tent in the desert, alpine zone, as well as traditional forest locations. It is very roomy, it has enough room for me and my dog when I bring him on those hikes. As mentioned in other reviews, single wall tents have to be setup so there is plenty of air flow so you do not experience condensation. I also bring a small hand towel to help with drying the inside of the tent. The Solo is a extremely tough little tent, and is always been my first choice when I need a tent, but I also still use my Hennessey hammock as well. I’ve had my lunar solo for coming up on a year (bought July 2022). It has seen beautiful weather, also high winds, heavy rains, below freezing temperatures, and some humid and muggy nights. All while keeping me comfortable, dry, and protected. It feels sturdy and secure for an ultralight tent. Also having great ventilation. The following are my opinions about the Lunar Solo based on my experience. Take it for what it’s worth :).Pros: price, weight, and quality are basically unbeatable for a 1.5lb shelter. It’s quite easy to setup, don’t let those videos of difficult setup scare you. If you can set a tent you’ll be fine. Very spacious floor space. I’m 5’10” and neither my head or feet touch ends while laying down. It has a hanging clip inside that’s nice for a head lamp or thermometer. Take the time to guy out the walls it increases the space you can sit up in by a lot. It also reduces wind flap on the whole tent. I also love the prusik knot of the front door guy line that allows for a more ventilated opening while still covering some of the vestibule. The material is thick enough it is not see through. So you have privacy. There’s many more pros but that gets you some info.Cons: you gotta seam seal it or have it seam sealed :-/. I seam sealed the tent myself, not bad took an hour but I took my time. I got the green color it’s nice but I think I’d prefer the grey. Better ambient lighting in the mornings. The mesh on the tent is fragile it does not like to be roughly stuffed in the stuff sack, so I recommend you fold it up and roll it up to get it back in the stuff sack. Sometimes the mesh has to be massaged to remove the bunching up of it. It has NOT torn and since I fold and roll it up it reduces the mesh issue. But it’s UL so there’s care needed there. Sitting up there’s not a ton of places you can sit fully up on your air pad without touching the ceiling. Not a deal breaker just be aware (I’m 5’10”). It will flap in the wind if you don’t guy out the side walls. It’s easy to over tighten the tension adjusters and put too much tension on the front zipper. Make sure you have it closed before you adjust after staking it. If the ground is rocky it can take a while to pitch the tent. Sometimes I use big rocks instead of staking it still gets a decent pitch. There are probably some more but those are the main things I can think of.Overall, this is a fantastic shelter option. I cannot speak more highly of it. I would definitely recommend it! For $260 you have as much space inside as some two man tents and it’s sub two pounds for the two to three hundred dollar range. Great deal! Just say yes, after almost a year it’s in great condition!
