I've used and owned all the high bling models from both of the big S's and I keep finding myself buying XT cassettes. The cassette is easily the best dollar to weight to strength ratio over any other models out there. Great shifting no matter if your using Sram or Shimano derailleurs. They fit perfect, shift perfect and last through some pretty dicey conditions. The lighter models(XTR,XO,XX) cogs tend to flex under heavy loading but the XT model stays true and don't bend under non-impact strain. Not that the super expensive stuff doesn't have a place on race bikes with sponsors. This cassette is a good example of trickle down technology. I think the machine work is very high quality. Great upgrade to the 12-25 cassette on my gravel/CX bike. The 10-32 has a gear for everything. Two spiders are a nice upgrade over the loose cogs/spacers I previously had. Ten speed shifter/derailleur combo bangs through the gears like butter with very little adjustment. The best money I've ever spent on bike parts.

I use these on road bikes, with with Shimano 105 RD-5701 GS 10-speed rear deailleurs, to get a little extra range for climbing hills. Gear spacing is exactly the same as 105/Ultegra etc. Shifting is very smooth. I use the 11-32. I'm not sure if the 11-34 or 11-36 would work. The upper (guide) pulley might touch the largest cog. You could use the Wolf Tooth Roadlink to solve this problem. But I've never personally tried it. Although I plan to.
This cassette is mounted on a recumbent bicycle. Recumbents have to have very low gears to conquer hills with. Many people have the mistaken idea that recumbents cannot climb as well as diamond frame bicycles. Recumbents climb in a different way, they have to have low gearing since you cannot stand to climb and must use spin to climb. These cassettes are wonderful for giving such a variety of close gearing to chose from while riding. No mounting issues on a SRAM disc hub and cassete shifts superbly.

Bent a cog on my SRAM PG1070 and saw that the Shimano XT was about the same weight but quite a bit less expensive on sale. Went ahead and purchased one to try out. Impression on my first ride was that I couldn't wait to get home and tear this cassette off my bike. Back to back comparison between cassettes, there is none! SRAM wins hands down. It is quieter, smoother and shifts faster. That said, after a few rides with this cassette I have gotten used to the noise and shifting and it does not bother me any more. Not enough to buy the SRAM and toss this thing. However, I will only buy SRAM cassettes going forward. For the price difference between this and the SRAM, the cassette does a descent job. My current cassette is showing some wear but, does not need replacing at this time. This is the same brand (Shimano | XT CS-M771 10 Speed Cassette 11-36T,) that I am running on my Cross Bike. Not knowing what supplies quantities might be months later, I went ahead and purchased it.
seems I've been able to thrash these for at least a few 2000K seasons each, and I suck on cleaning maintenance, while I do replace the chain every season. Eventually I have had the pins of the bottom 4 gears shear from the rest. Still able to creep home in low gear.
This cassette works great. Shifting is smooth in clean or dirty conditions. My only problems is that over the past year I have broken 3 of these. The rivets that hold cogs 4,5, and 6 seem to fail prematurely. In previous years I have not had such problems. Sure I'm 205 pounds and I race so I'm laying down as much power as I can but XT has always been the amateur racers best friend. Half the price of XTR and all the performance with a little more weight and, generally, more durability.Perhaps changing the rivets to screws would be better. At least then I could replace a failed screw and better yet, take them all apart for easier cleaning like the SRAM cassettes.I hope the failure problem is just a production line issue that will be resolved soon.
