Best shoe I’ve ever had

My colleague at work raves about his speedcross trainers but because I have wide feet he said I’d probably find them too tight fitting and then I found they did a wide version. I can honestly say that these trainers are super comfy - as I’m getting older I’m getting a bit precious about this and only wear good quality socks etc! The trainers feel supportive out of the box and are roomy in the toe box. On runs they feel grippy off road in most conditions with no worries about slipping. I can wear these all day and my feet don’t ache. Initially I thought I would not like the lace system but they are so easy to just slip on and off that honestly they feel like bedroom slippers. I don’t think I would consider another trainer now I have found these and like my colleague ... MoreMy colleague at work raves about his speedcross trainers but because I have wide feet he said I’d probably find them too tight fitting and then I found they did a wide version. I loved the 4's, and the 5's had even better features, so when the 5's wore out, I ordered the Speedcross 6 in the same size as the previous 2 pair - 7.5. It took 5 weeks for the shoes to arrive, and when they finally did, I couldn't wait to head out on the trail. It wasn't until I headed downhill on my inaugural hike that I realized the shoes were too large. When I got home and compared them to the Speedcross 5's, there was over an additional 1/2" of space in front of my big toe. Thankfully I have a VIP membership, so I took them back and they ordered me a size 7. I got these in less than 2-days, which was amazing. Took them out for a hike and found the length perfect, but the width in the toe box is much larger than previous Speedcross models. I have to really cinch down the lacing to get adequate support, which bunches up the fabric on the top of my foot. I am not sure if I will keep these since the fit is so off from previous years. I am so bummed because these have been my go-to hiking shoes! Good features: great traction; nice flexible sole; excellent support around heel. Negatives: Fit is funky - way too wide in toe box and you will need to order a 1/2 size smaller than normal; the little pouch to tuck the lace into is much harder to use than the Speedcross 5's.

Great Improved shoe!

I was lucky enough to trial this shoe in Annecy over varied terrain in wet weather. Straight out of the box the shoe fits well, with a very accommodating fit without feeling loose. The material in the toe box is extremely flexible but remains protective against roots and rocks. As you would expect from the speedcross the sole is super protective and grips in all conditions; I took these on clay, grass, mud, sand, smooth rock, and shingle all in wet conditions and with varying accents and descents and it outperformed any other shoe I have worn!As someone with neutral feelings on the speedcross 5, I would wholeheartedly recommend the 6 for short to mid distance off road runs where grip on difficult/technical terrain is a priority.I normally go up half a size in ... MoreI was lucky enough to trial this shoe in Annecy over varied terrain in wet weather. Great fit, lose a star for poor insoles
22 May 2023

These shoes are a great fit for a narrower foot, especially around the heel/ankle. I wasn't expecting to like the quicklace system but it works well and the shoes don't budge once adjusted. Fit and lacing very comfortable. The insoles unfortunately let these shoes down, which would otherwise have got 5 stars. They are rather thin, and have quite rough fabric on the surface, with large perforations in the forefoot area. These factors make the insole abrasive, and gave me sore feet, especially if running in wet conditions. Swopped the insoles for the ones from my old shoes, which fixed the problem. Customer service response to my raising the issue could have been more proactive.

Great shoe for walking
2 June 2023

Thanks to REI staff who recommended a bigger size which was the perfect recommendation. Used these shoes for an 8-mile charity walk on Memorial Day. If I'd gone with the size I thought I would wear I would've been very uncomfortable. Glad I asked for the good advice I got and recommendation to get a bigger size. The walk went well and I enjoyed the walk and never gave my feet a second thought. I ordered a 9, tried on a 9.5 and 10 and bought the 10. Very comfortable, great traction, wore for about 10 hours to break in before an 8 mile walk. No issues with shoe performance. Great support, neutral pronation, no blisters or hot spots. Heel drop is like wearing boots without the weight and comfy as any boot I've ever had.

Hands on the best running shoes I've owned
16 April 2023

My first pair of dedicated trail shoes and I've owned these for a month now (50km+), and can confirm to their greatness.Traction is exceptional on all soft surfaces, and the stability this shoe gives you on uneven terrain is where it really shines in my opinion.I struggled over the years with shoes being too narrow - this wide version is the perfect answer I was looking for. Super comfortable over long runs. The 10mm drop makes a lot of sense off-road when going up and down, so I wouldn't hesitate over that if I were you.Best of all these do not follow the recent trend of humongous outsoles, but rather offer the right amount of feedback when pounding on uneven soft surfaces. All in all a really great purchase, I'm a happy owner!

They Do What I Wanted Them to Do

This my third review. This one was specifically requested by Solomon.I only wear this shoe for orienteering and by now I have participated in many orienteering meets (some more successful than others but that's on me). I usually run/walk the Brown Course (around 4-kms+/- with about 100-meters of climb). I've orienteered on all types of terrain: bad trails, good trails, through marshes, rocky ground, crossed streams, wet ground, muddy ground, clamberred up and down hillsides, etc. And, I still finish - the Speedcross 6 help a lot! The lugs are at the right depth and correctly spaced. My only issue with the shoe is that I wish that the heel cup was leather lined. Too tight, inner ankle pinch
10 May 2023

I really don't understand. The reviews for these are so awesome and I was super excited to get my pair today. Unfortunately the fit was very very awkward.I wear size 9's no problem and got 9 wides since I read these run a bit narrow. These shoes are quite a bit longer than any of my other size 9 shoes and my toes are pretty far from the tip. I'd try to size down but these shoes are actually incredibly tight all around. I even got 9EE wide! Lastly, the inside edge of the shoe is very hard and comes up high so that it bumps against the inside of my ankle. I'm not a picky shoe person at all, but quite honestly these are probably the least comfortable shoes I've ever had. Shocked no one else seems to have my issues =(

Very impressed!

These choose are so comfortable! I wore them to hike 5 miles in a desert right after buying them at the store. I am extremely surprised how comfortable these are. I definitely felt a lot of traction and was able to easily go up and down steep hills (30-40% grade). In general, I do get a knee pain if I go down many steep hills, but not with these shoes! I've noticed that my step is a lot softer going down. They get 4 stars for being 0.5-1 size longer without explicitly saying that. If I bought them online, I would've had to return them for a smaller size. The store associate confirmed that it is the case with these shoes and some other Solomon shoes. I always wear 9.5, but purchased a size 9. If I had more time at the store, I would've tried 8.5 as 9 is still long. ... MoreThese choose are so comfortable! These are so perfect for me that I’m contemplating the purchase of a second pair in case they get discontinued or changed. Wore them to Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA this past week. Right out of the box! Brought to wear on the trails but they were so comfortable that I wore them around camp too. Hated taking them off. The color is AWESOME and looks great with so much of my stuff! The lock laces are easy to use. There is a finger loop/grab on the tongue to hold when pulling on so that the tongue doesn’t fall into the shoe. There is not a heel loop/grab (which would be a nice addition but not enough to not buy these). By your regular size and get outside, your feet will love them!
