The Salomon Quest 4D GTX Forces 2 EN Boots provide support and grip, with the flexibility to take a knee or sprint in tough conditions. The waterproof Gore-Tex membrane ensures extended use in wet weather conditions. The Sensifit wraps around the entire midcourt area to ensure a snug and comfortable fit for every foot shape. The 4D advanced chassis guides the foot even on the roughest terrain, reducing fatigue. The non-marking Contagrip soles have a reverse chevron pattern that grips on wet, loose, hard or dry surfaces. The boots feature a traditional lacing system with eyelets, a plastic chassis construction for added stability and support, a molded Ortholite insole for cushioning, breathability and durability, a soft textile lining, nubuck leather, and EnergyCell EVA foam that provides shock attenuation. The boots are ISO 20344:2011 certified and have a puncture-resistant material added to the outsole. The All Terrain Contagrip is built for the widest variety of surfaces. The tongue is connected to the upper on both sides, preventing debris from entering the shoe, and keeping the tongue centered. They feature a 12 mm drop value, with a high and stable profile, and the weight per unit is 665 g. These are lace up boots.

5+ stars for U.S. Elite, 5 (or maybe zero) for the boot

I had the civilian version of the Quest 4D GTX and wore it all day nearly every day for months in some very rugged and muddy terrain with no significant issues. By far the best combat or hiking boot I've owned. The construction is durable and the boot is very comfortable to walk long distances in and keep on 20+ hours per day. The waterproofing is also very good, and the boot was not too hot in summer and was warm enough down to 35 F or so with normal socks even when wet. The boot does not dry out quickly when the inside gets soaked, and the sole does not shed thick mud easily, but it is no worse than other boots of this type. Whereas the civilian model had nylon webbing lower eyelets, the lower eyelets on this Forces version are made from some kind of unreinforced synthetic material. The second time I put these boots on and laced them up, one of the eyelets snapped under ordinary pressure. U.S. Elite very quickly sent a replacement pair that has not had the same issue in the couple days I've had them, and hopefully won't in the future, but I'm not confident in this particular model until I've worn them a bit more. Apart from the eyelet issue, the Forces model feels just as comfortable and solid as the civilian model. All that said, the U.S. Elite folks get 5+ stars for standing behind what they sell and quickly helping resolve issues that aren't their fault. RLTW.

And finally last but not least is the grip these boots have not only off the beaten path but on concrete climbing fences slippery surfaces whatever your needs these boots have a gecko like grip that will probably blow your mind.Next are the consBelow is only a month of extremely heavy use these boots have been submerged in creeks they have been submerged in mud and I easily have well a hundred miles on them. I am somewhat concerned about the durability only after a month of use. Usually I can get 6-9 months out of my boots I’m not sure I’ll get that with these but I definitely recommend giving them a try that is really my only concern.

DURABLE, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

I bought these over a year ago now, and have worn them extensively and in variable conditions. I live in Kentucky, which sees wildly different meteorological conditions in a years time, and if you've ever been to the state, it can even go through a season of weather changes within a week. These boots have withstood the extreme hot, humid, wet, jungle-like, August summer, and the below-zero January snow days. They have kept my feet dry, warm, and in blister free condition on long treks. I obviously purchased the Gore-Tex model, so they can get a little warm in the summer, but it's not unbearable. A good trade-off for the water protection they provide. They provide great traction and stability when hunting on various terrain features. They do extremely well on backpacking trips and offer very good foot and ankle support. And like their intended use, they work extremely well in a tactical environment. I have never slipped on any type of smooth surface and the soles do not make any noise on any type of smooth flooring inside buildings. I clean and condition these regularly and they are still in great condition. They are comfortable, not too hard and not too soft. Well worth money, and IN MY OPINION, the best tactical boot you can buy. As far as sizing, they fit pretty true to size. I normally wear a US 10 and a 10 fits perfectly. However, if you like a thicker merino wool hiking sock like DARN TOUGH, and hiking with this boot is your intended purpose, I'd consider going up 1/2 size. This gives your foot a little more room for the thicker sock and room for your foot to move forward without your big toe hitting the end of the toe box on those down hill sections.

Excellent Boot! Price Matches the Quality

Two out of the five reviews are low stars. One review was a small defect, the other was a customer service issue. Overall, my experience with these boots, (my wife has an identical pair) is nothing short of tough, durable and perfect for long winter-rough terrain hikes. Excellent service boot as well. I’ve tugged and pulled on these laces to recreate the issue that one of the other reviewers had and I couldn’t break it. I really did put it through its paces. Perhaps the quality of the stitching was overlooked. Personally, I think high end brands like this should consider to stop using other countries to make their boots. Charge more if you have to. QC issues can cancel out brand loyalty real quick. I’m still in, but obviously others not so much… Anyhoo — Once ... MoreTwo out of the five reviews are low stars. Extremely Uncomfortable! Disappointing.

I was so excited to try these…finally pulled the trigger during the sale. These shoes have rock hard soles and seem to be very undersized as well. My feet are killing me everyday. I thought Salomon was known for their “no break in period”. These are literally the most uncomfortable shoes I ever used. It’s been 2 weeks of over 10 hour shifts wearing these and no break-in whatsoever. My feet are sore everyday after about the first 2 or 3 hours. Also the lace garage doesn’t always hold and the tongues flop in and out of my pant legs too easily. I don’t know if there’s a return policy for used shoes but I shouldn’t have waited for it to “get comfortable”. It’s also the warmest shoes I ever had, very hot and sweaty. I went with the Gore-Tex because I needed the water resistant but you can expect these to be hot!! All of my previous water resistant boots/shoes were always way lighter and cooler. Maybe it’s the EN soles that make it rock hard and hot, I’m not sure. These look great and I’ve received multiple compliments and questions in just 2 weeks but sorry, I can’t honestly recommend them to anyone. The great look is the only thing I like about it.

Great Boot with comfort and durability
24 June 2023

I'm on my third pair of quests and honestly I don't think I could switch to another boot. SALOMON killed it on the quest by designing a boot that is super comfortable and can take handle the high demands needed for military use.I have a pair of GTX and non GTX. I routinely wear these boots on average of 14-16 hours a day and they have held up no issues through the field summer, spring, fall or winter. I had some concerns about the mid cut with GTX but have had zero issues with waterproofing.Only issues I have run into was toe cap separated slightly but Salomon was extremely quick and helpful with replacing. And GTX model can run a little hot in the summer heat but other than that nothing else.Meet the CAF Boot regulations and price range.

Hunting, hiking, weekend backpacking...

Been wearing Salomon or Merrils since 2004 for work and play time. The last 4 years I've gravitated to the Forces EN Gtx boots. I love these boots. I know I could spend more, but these feel built for my feet. The extra protection against punctures and abrasion in these boots are well worth the added cost when you live among all the pointy, pokey, stabby things in the AZ desert. Soles last more than long enough in this harsh environment.I was a little concerned about moisture build up in the synthetic uppers, but a great pair of wool socks keeps my feet dry even in 110 Fahrenheit Temps. Remember to hydrate!

Love these boots!
31 July 2023

I love these boots. Do not ever stop making them or change them please. I wear these for work and have been for years. I bought what I thought was the civilian version thinking they were the same so I could get a different color for hiking and hunting. They are not! I quickly returned them for a full refund and bought these(thanks salomon). I just bought the green ones for hunting and hiking and I have black for work. First day in these I did a 4 miles in the North Maine Woods (read lots of water, mud, roots, rocks) with a 35lb pack. I had no hot spots or pain. I am 6'5'' and tip the scale at 300lbs and wear a size 14. I do not have a lot of options for boots for big guys like me. Thanks Salomon for remembering us and continuing to make a wonderful product.

Very Warm, not comfortable

I opened the box I had to go back and review my order. I thought for sure I had been sent the wrong boots. It looked like I had been sent the GTX version as there is quite a substantial liner in these boots. I tried them out in the office and found that they run pretty hot. I have a pair of Salomon Mountain GTX and I think they are actually cooler than these. In an arid climate I would probably only wear these at night, just too hot. Another annoyance is how far the top of the tongue hangs forward, minor but it bothers me. I cant quite get a good fit and experience some irritation across the bridge of my foot. It’s not only me, another colleague is in the same situation. I’ve tried a couple of different lacing methods and no luck. Other then my issues, the boot is a solid construction and if you can get a good fit it would probably be great for carrying heavy loads across rugged country. My recommendation is go to a store and try them on, don’t make the mistake I did and buy online and wear them outside (no returns if you do). I have several Salomon products, Mountain GTX which I love, speed assault, speed cross and XA Pro 3D. I’m a Salomon fan but these ones didn’t work for me. These are going on the shelf
