Salomon Active Skin 8 Set XL / Black/Ebony

Salomon Active Skin 8 Set XL / Black/Ebony

Designed by some of Salomon's top notch athletes, the performance-oriented Active Skin 8 Set is a sleek running vest that offers carrying comfort, streamlined storage, freedom of movement, and at-the-ready hydration for hour after hour of moving fast! Supported by your upper body, the soft, form-fitting pack has a flexible and adjustable connection point across the sternum but otherwise leaves your ribcage free to expand so that breathing remains uninhibited. The shape and placement of the pack body ensures that weight remains consistent with your center of gravity rather than sagging low on your back and causing undue strain and fatigue. The mesh backpanel and broad perforated harness straps help to cushion the pack against your body while maximizing ventilation. To ensure that you stay properly hydrated, the pack includes two 500 ml soft flasks that stow conveniently in dedicated front harness pockets. A separate compartment with a hanging system allows you to use a bladder, but a hydration system is not included. Other features include an integrated key fob and connection points that enable you to carry foldable trekking poles (poles not included). The Salomon Active Skin 8 Set vest pack is available in an array of size and color options. See the size chart for size recommendations based on your chest measurement.

Picked this vest over the adv skin vest despite having fewer features because the inner fabric is much less abrasive. Unfortunately this means compromising on features I miss, such as having more pockets (this vest could really use a couple more pockets!), but overall this vest is good. The zipped compartment in the back is large, but it doesn't stretch like the adv skin vest - this also means it feels a bit more durable however, so it could be seen as a positive too. The ease of adjusting the size to fit your body is very appreciated and effective. The bungee on the back to keep bag contents secure and avoid bouncing is also quite good. Overall would recommend it so far, although it is still quite new.

After measuring myself accordingly, I bought this in a small and the vest is great quality with lots of pockets but the arm holes are SO SO tight and small. I am barely comfortable with this vest on in just a tank top, so I definitely couldn’t wear it over a light jacket. Straws are long but that can be cut. The fit is slightly better after adding water to the flasks because it ways down the best, but I know my skin will be raw because of how tight it is around my under arm area. I’m just upset because I went out of my way to buy a tape measurer JUST to be sure this would fit right, but it’s uncomfortable to wear without even doing anything, so I can’t imagine running miles in it.

Love this vest. Previously had used camelbak but the bungee cords are a game changer. Makes the vest fit perfectly. Whole thing is very light weight and breathable. Room for a bladder that hangs in back between your back and a storage compartments. Lots of storage on the front as well. Plenty of room for keys and phone and snack for long runs. Love the hydrations flasks. Will never go back to my hydration belts again. Wish I had gotten this sooner. This is my first Salomon product I’ve ever bought and been very impressed with the quality. Looking forward to checking more out from this company.

Excellent Running Vest

The Salomon Active Skin 8 works perfect! The mesh side pockets are perfect for stashing lite mitts or a buff mid run while on the move. The mesh pockets also work great for snacks or gels and are easy to access. The zippered pocket is a perfect and secure spot for a phone. The soft flasks taste funny for the first use or two but after that with enough rinsing are great and run and move well, they have minimal movement or slosh due to the way they fit the pack and the smaller volume. I like the easy and quick chest adjustment strap which you can adjust on the fly as you consume water or need a change up. The large pocket on the back can hold a lot if needed, this weekend I fit my shell and my daughters sweater in it. Seems durable. Good all round hydration pack

My intention to buy this hydration pack was to use it both training and races. I bought this item for:(i) Winter running where conditions may change while I am on the run and wanted to ensure I had gear with me to protect me from the elements.(ii) The ability to race up to Marathon distance and be as self sufficient as possible.(iii) Use it for trail walksAgainst the above reasons, I can recommend the above product:(i) I have run 3 races so far with the pack, one of which I had a PB. I found the pack to be light and pick in place without wobbling around while I run. It also allows your body to ventilate but bear in mind that any material obstructing your skin and the environment no matter how good it is will make you sweat. On the other hand, on races that are on cold days (around 0-5C degrees) having the pack on will the cold wind blows is a pleasant feeling as it keeps my upper torso warm.(ii) While it is not as roomy as the 10 liter version, I found this to be a plus because it makes me thing harder what I really need to carry on a long distance race (10k and above). What I like about it is that I can have my phone, keys, gels on the front and use the back for a rain jacket (or even an insulated jacket) if it start raining (or using the insulated jacket to keep myself warm immediately after the race without having to go to the bag drop area to get my clothes after the race. I generally do not like using both water bottles with it because it makes me feel heavy. In races however I run without the bottles and I pick up a bottle from the stations and the pack allows me while running to securely place the bottle in the bottle pocket without issues.(iii) It is worth mentioning that this pack performs well for trails as it does on runs.

Great pack for running on the trail
1 July 2023

I bought this in the Small size first, after taking measurements. The small was too small and a bit too snug. Returned it promptly to Salomon and got a medium instead. They were quick on the delivery and return process. No complaints there. As for the product itself, it's very useful on runs where you have one too many things to carry on your spibelt. I even carried a baguette on the outside cinched by the drawcord. No complaints. I also carry my phone in the front pocket next to the water.

Great vest, disappointing changes

I bought this as my first hydration vest for summer marathon training. I was looking at the active skin 8 in both the unisex and women’s fit. I chose the women’s fit because I thought it would be better shaped to my torso. What I didn’t realize, was one major difference between the two that isn’t talked about much. If using a hydration bladder in the back as well as the front, the woman’s vest doesn’t have the same way to hold it as the unisex cut does. The unisex cut has an extra pocket/sleeve in the back of the pack, with an outlet at the top for the straw. That way, your bladder stays away from your stuff, but also keeps the heat of your back from heating up the water. In the woman’s cut, however, that doesn’t exist, and I don’t see a reason for it. There is no extra inner pocket/sleeve in the woman’s cut. They do have a small pocket in the upper part, but I believe the unisex one does as well. There’s also no gap in the top or bottom of the pack for the straw to exit. You can use a bladder, but the only place for it is between the pack and the mesh against your back. That doesn’t sound very comfortable to me, and as a heavy back sweater, I know my water is just going to get very warm within 30 minutes.I don’t know why this was changed with the same style of lack, just a different cut. It seems like a big difference in both ease of use, and amount of fabric used in the pack.

I use this for trail running and hiking, placing my keys, GPS device, Headlamp, Keys, and Gels all in the front pocket. The back has plenty of room for a first aid kid, packable jacket, and extra snacks/food, and even a DSLR camera with small lens. There’s no designated trekking pole loops, but I’ve found the elastic straps on the back good enough for them (at least when just hiking). Those can also be used for to secure additional layers. I also use a 1.5 liter osprey bladder in the bladder sleeve, allowing me to carry 2.5 liters of water. You can also carry 3.5 liters if you replace the flasks with 1L Smart bottles (they fit pretty snug).Overall, a great ergonomic design and gently hugs your body. My favorite running vest!
18 July 2023

I bought this for trail running and to use as a day pack. I was hesitant about getting a smaller 8 liter running vest, I didn't know if it'd be enough space for things I'd want to bring along. My boyfriend said to look into 10-12 Liter, but I went ahead and bought this which actually works out nicely. I can fit a lightweight fleece, wind breaker, baseball hat, snacks, and sunglasses. However I don't use a water bladder, just the two bottles on the side. Probably won't be as roomy with a water bladder in there. My boyfriend and I filter water when we rest. I also want to mention I was real hesitant about the long straws in the front, because I've heard negative reviews about them, but I actually really like them! The pack compares durable and well made and it's it's high on the back. Like how nicely my water bladder fits in the pack and the pockets. I had high hopes for trying this bag out but I don't like the way it fits and I don't like one of the features. I did not like the cinch system. It's sort of set up like elastic shoelaces so you have limited control on fit. I also did not like how tight it was around my neck. I'm concerned that if I wear this and run I'm going to have chafing or rubbing problems. I can feel it rubbing on my neck. Just testing it out.
