I like the lower profile and sleeker fit and look. The adjustment is not easy, but once done, you should be set for a while. My pup plays every day on a sandy beach along a salt water sound, and sand does not get imbedded, and it's simple to rinse and leave on a counter to dry. Great design, and first class materials. Don't count on controlling a squirming puppy, as it may pull off over the head (unless you have it too tight).

I switched from flat collars to the rope collars because one of my long haired dogs gets damaged fur from the flat collars. Since switch her over to the rope, I haven't seen any further damage. I like that these collars can be used on a leash as many other rope collars are tag collars only. I do worry that a dog that is a heavy puller could injure their throat if they are pulling against the collar so if your dog pulls on a collar, I would recommend switching to a harness when using this collar.

We have been a Ruffwear Fan for years. We purchased this collar based on reputation & reviews. It did not disappoint! It took a minute for us to figure out how to adjust, but we appreciate how it works. We love the quality, the look, the tag silencer, the tag holder separate from leash hook, reflection built in, and that it is not bulky. We are active- camp & hike, and wanted something that is comfortable for our pup, and wouldn't hold smell when wet etc. We have rope leashes ( sadly from another company. We want to eventually get Ruffwear one, but since the rope holds up, we still have severalof the other brand) We have not tested getting wet part, as we just recently purchased, but like everything about this collar & this company. I wanted one of these for my border collie/newfie mix Axle (he didn’t get the size of the Newfie or the intelligence of the border collie but he’s a GREAT dog!), but l didn’t because some of the reviews said it loosens up. Enter my second dog Guss, and l said “let’s try it anyway!!! “ Very pleased with the collar. It doesn’t loosen up, lays great on his fur, and the cool leash attachment is ALWAYS at the top of his neck. I will be replacing Axle’s current ruffwear collar with one of these today, and also replacing Guss’s BRAND NEW Front Range harness because apparently those are fun to chew on…
I bought this for my puppy to grow into because it's totally my style. He didn't mind it. But he was having an itch at the collar and some fur got trapped and he started to panic about it. It was difficult to get off while he was freaking out, not to mention it was just a stressful situation for him because it was something around his neck. This might still be a great collar if it ends up fitting perfeclty when he's older but maybe this wasn't for a puppy. To Ruffwear and the designers; I love your purpose, business functions, designs, materials and engineering. I still use and buy ruffwear products. This is just my experience with this particular product. After our two lab puppies had some emergency visits after chewing their traditional clip-on collars, we wanted to opt for something without plastic and rubber, with minimal metal. This option was perfect for our 5 mo. old lab twins! Very easy to slip on and off, and way more comfortable than the traditional clip-on collars. Less restrictive on their necks and so much more functional, even on walks or going to restaurants! So incredibly happy with our purchases of the maroon and blue rope collars!!
Hands down my favorite collar for my long haired collies. When I got my first collie I was hunting high and low for the right collar that wouldn't flatten her fur in weird ways or create mattes. Once I found knot-a-collar there's been no turning back. Last winter I bought her a new one simply for a change of pace. Shortly after that I adopted another collie and he was using her old one for a while under I just recently bought him his own. We don't really use this with leashes, mostly just a tag holder but its perfect! Definitely recommend for any long coated dogs!
I love this collar, the simplicity of design, the outdoor (climbing) aesthetic, the elegance, the fact that the lead attachment point remains accessible at the back of the neck (due to the heavier weight of the chest plate/double rope/knots hanging under the throat), the fact that except for this attachment point the collar is by-and-large invisible on a dog with relatively deep pile fur, the fact that you can just slip it over the nose/head, that fact that it stays on due to the fact that a dog's fur is aligned towards the tail, the fact that it contains reflective threads & shows up at night, it's all good 👍! I had thought that the knots might possibly have been uncomfortable but they get lost in the folds of the neck, no quibbles from either of the two working ... I had thought that the knots might possibly have been uncomfortable but they get lost in the folds of the neck, no quibbles from either of the two working black labs I've used this collar on. The only criticism I can currently think of is it might not be the best option for dogs which pull a lot on the lead, you'd probably want a wider collar, but I don't have a problem in this department. I've taken off the dangly clip & rubber tag 'silencer' as I don't like extraneous stuff on collars, too much likely to get snagged in undergrowth. I've considered getting a friend to cast copies of the two metal plates out of brass, etching name/phone no, etc. on the chest plate. And if/as/when the cord wears out, you can just replace with some similar diameter/pliable climbing cord & replicate the knots. Love it, happy bunny! 🐾✨
This purchase was a replacement for the exact same item which our lab has had since a puppy.New puppy had chewed parts of the original so I thought it looked scruffy.Older labrador (5years) looking very smart now.We like the way the collar sits with the lead attachment ring on the upper side. Also, don't think it's as rough on the neck fur as a standard collar.I'll be ordering another soon for the newest pup.
I’ve never liked collars on my dogs. I don’t like the permanent ring they leave in the dogs hair, even after they’re removed. Even more so, I believe it causes too much stress and possible trauma to the sensitive neck area to attach a leash to. I’ve always used harnesses to clip a leash to. I do, however, think a collar can be useful just as a place to keep ID tags when outdoors. This is a thoughtfully designed collar for this purpose. The material seems to be more comfortable than traditional collars, and it’s super easy to adjust to size. And the colors are great!
