Remo 13" Vintage Emperor Coated Drum Head
The Remo Vintage Emperor Coated drum head is a reissue of the first Remo Emperor drum head that changed drumming in the late 1960s. This 10" batter head provides the sensitivity, snare response and accentuated midrange of the original Emperor with a durable, coated playing surface built to withstand the demands of any gig. Constructed of two plies of 7.5-mil polyester film, the Vintage Emperor Coated delivers a fat, punchy tone with sustain and projection ideal for classic rock, blues and jazz drumming. Vintage-Inspired Coating Provides Controlled SoundThe coated playing surface of the Vintage Emperor Coated drum head helps focus and shape your drum tone for a controlled yet resonant sound. The coating slightly dampens higher overtones, emphasizing midrange frequencies that cut through the mix. This provides focused articulation and a balanced, vintage-style tone suited to a variety of musical styles. The coating also helps prevent unwanted ringing and overtones, giving you more control over the sound of each drum. Two-Ply Durability With Vintage CharacterWhile the original Emperor featured two plies of 7.5-mil Mylar, the Vintage Emperor Coated is built with two plies of more durable 7.5-mil polyester film. This provides the warmth, sensitivity and snare response of the original Emperor with increased strength and protection from wear and tear. The result is a drum head that evokes a classic sound while handling the demands of modern drumming with ease. 2-ply7.5-mil polyester film | Remo Vintage Emperor Coated Drum Head 13 in.

It's my first time to use Emperor Vintage. I'm a Coated head "guy" :) but it's intresting to switch sometimes. Those are for hard hitter and some harder music like metal. But it's durable for longer period as other Emperors. Bit a darker sound.

I received the correct box for my drum head, but it had the wrong head in it, They quickly send out the correct head over the weekend and I had it by Tuesday.Great head, less high-end than an coated, less low end than a clear, so a perfect middle tone head. Being white, it still looks as jazzy as the coated heads. This went on a 13 tom I use as a floor tom. The 2 ply gives me the low end, and the smooth white gives me the articulation I was looking for.Thank you SamAsh!

As commented by everyone else, these feel exponentially better than rubber pads/mutes, but w/o modification, are too quiet. I've added some strips of packing tape to the heads and this has added volume/tone, making playing them much more enjoyable! On their own, the feel is there, but can barely hear anything. Packing tape (and probably similarly, painter's tape) is good because the adhesive isn't so strong as to make removing and adding a problem.

Realistic drum beats without the elevated noise. These heads have superb rebound when properly tuned. Wished I had purchased these in Feb. 2020 when I began drum lessons. Instead I was using Evans Soundoff rubber pads which can't reproduce the sound nor the rebound. I am very impressed by the quality. Remo Silentstroke Heads are well worth the cash outlay. These heads work exceptionally well for practicing on an acoustic kit. However tuning with these heads requires a very different approach from tuning drums with batter heads. I found them to work best with thin, single ply, resonant heads, because the mesh heads create far less pressure within the drum as opposed to standard resonant heads, Thin resonant heads will provide drum tone because they will vibrate with the lowered pressure created by the mesh heads. So far I have gotten the best response by using PET single ply as resonant heads.Multiple ply heads will not work well at all as resonant heads when employing these mesh heads on the batter side of the drum. Its easy to talk over the sound of these heads when playing them... which explains how loud they ... This is the best solution I have found to date, and I have used electronic drums, drum silencing pads, and other methods to no avail. Now I actually play my drums and keep my chops and tactile feel in good working order.I use the Remo Silent Stroke heads on an SPL street bop kit (under 200 bucks) with the PDP Z5 hardware pack and an extra cymbal stand. I also use the Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals. the combination is unbeatable for a practice kit.. Sure its an extra kit but it keeps me playing/practicing between gigs, and the family and neighbors are all happy campers. My SPL kit looks like the one below with Remo mesh heads and L80 cymbals
If you like the attack of emperor clear batters, but you like the body and depth of Emperor coated batters, then Emperor smooth whites should be your next tom heads. Keeps their good tone for an amazingly long time, and I pound! I tune these deep with no muffling, ambassadors on the bottom tuned up a little, and this combination gives me consistently great sounding resonant tone on my 90's DW 24/13/16/18 (powerstroke 3 on BD) kit in the studio and on the road. I've tried every combination of heads. For heavy rock, I can't say enough great things about the Emperor smooth whites.
I used these to convert my deccabons to electronic. I kinda have quite a huge acoustic kit and replaced all my heads to silent strokes and added triggers. These competed my whole kit instead of using Roland pads. Now, my e kit is my acoustic kit! No more adjustments regarding size.
This is a well made product and will cut down on volume tremendously. That said, in all honesty I am not a big fan of mesh practice heads; the feel of playing them isn't realistic and because of it's very low volume you can't really hear any stick definition, which I feel is important in practicing. To remedy this, I fashioned a circular dot of duct tape over the center of the head, which is a reasonable improvement and helps me hear what I'm practicing. Maybe Remo will come out with a dotted version of the silentstroke heads in the future.
My whole kit now has Remo Silentstroke heads. The amount of practice I have now has vastly increased.Previously I would have to take the kit to a studio, now I can practice at home. They feel just the same as my usual heads, with just a little bit of tone so there is some musicality to them but so much quieter.Highly recommended.
Replaced the stock Alesis heads on my Strike Pro SE kit. These Remo heads feel way closer to a real drum head, then the Alesis ones do. They offer more bounce, and are a way more lively feel. I feel these were a good investment, and I'll continue to use them in the future.
