The 16" M3 Pro MacBook Pro is a great laptop for anyone looking for a powerful desktop replacement with fast performance. I'd argue it's one of the best computers ever made and certainly the best that Apple has ever made.Pros:- Build quality is industry-leading. Full aluminum chassis with some of the best keyboard and trackpad of any laptop. The new Space Black color is dark and classy and stays relatively clean even after smudges and oils get all over it.- One of the best displays on a laptop. It's sharp, colorful, responsive, and accurate. 16" allows for desktop-like experience with enough space to comfortably multitask. It also gets brighter than previous models making for working in brighter environments easier. Great real estate for video and photo editors ... Decent for music producers in a pinch.- MagSafe along with multiple USB-C thunderbolt ports, SD Card reader, and HDMI Port allows for multiple accessories to be used without needing an external hub.- M3 Pro processor is great for most creative and power users. I edit photos and videos as well as motion design and graphic design. This machine has been able to meet every single one of those needs. For extreme professionals and enthusiasts who will take full advantage of ray-traced rendering and additional CPU and GPU cores as well as enhanced performance with multiple demanding applications open at once, consider M3 Max.- Some of the best battery life and efficiency on a laptop. No need to worry about leaving the charger at home. I can run this for multiple days without a charge depending on what I do.Cons:- Starting price is steep at $2499 (without sales). If you're a budget-conscious buyer, consider the 14" MacBook Pro if you're still looking for performance or 15" MacBook Air if you're looking for a larger display.- Base configuration is not generous with memory and storage and paying for upgrades is pricey. It'll be fine for most people but for those wanting a bit more storage or unified memory, get ready to pay up.- 16" is not great for frequent travel or portability. It's big. It's bulky. It's heavy. Lugging this thing around consistently is just not as convenient as a 14" MacBook Pro or even any one of the MacBook Air models.TLDR;The 16" M3 Pro MacBook Pro is absolutely worth it if you're on the hunt for a powerful laptop for creatives and power users alike needing a large and beautiful display. It's a little pricey, but for the amount of power and efficiency you get, it's more than worth it. This model is more than enough for the vast majority of users, however, if you have specific needs, I would do more research to see if this is the right spec for you.A lot of this review can be applied to the 14" MacBook Pro as well and that's mainly because they're relatively very similar computers with the major difference being screen size. You don't have to sacrifice power if you want a smaller laptop.I highly recommend going into a store with both 14" and 16" demo units and seeing which one is right for you and your lifestyle before deciding on your purchase.

I recently had to return a Windows laptop which had really good performance but unfortunately, it got incredibly hot to the touch which really concerned me. I replaced it with the M3 Macbook Pro. The build quality is superb! Cannot fault it, infact it's the best I've ever had. I love the light, portable and magnetic charger instead of the massive brick. Love the battery life and the fact that it stays cool.Unfortunately in my experience the performance was dreadful. I need a portable machine for video editing and Macbook Pros are supposed to be the flagship in this area, which is why I bit the bullet. That said, clearly PP/video editing in general should work well with this machine? In my experience, the performance was so bad that it rendered the software unusable. I done a ton of research and tried all the fixes. I even tried using Divinci Resolve instead and had the same issues. I addressed all my concerns in the comment section to a YouTuber who recommended this for video editing and he flat out said something is wrong and it shouldn't be doing that. Downloads from the Apple store takes a whopping 10 mins. I think I unfortunately got a dud! Scared to exchange this incase the performance is genuinely just poor. If I'm spending over 2k on any machine, I expect it to carry out the tasks I throw at it without any problems. Frustrated!

I use CT scans for work, and can seamlessly use the same software at work (Intel PCs with Nvidia RTX cards) vs. my ARM version Windows 11 Pro in virtual machine simulation. Manipulation of these 3D renders is comparable in speed (even though the software explicitly states that it was not optimized to use ARM chips). Haven't found anything that really slows it down. The computer is mostly cool all the time. The fans barely quick up, if at all, so it is really quiet. But most importantly, I use this computer day in and day out, and most of the time I can use it all day for three to four days before it is down to the 20-30% range where I start feeling anxious and then I plug it in. Charge up is super quick as well -- I think less than an hour to fully charge to 100% from a really low state of charge. So this is the first computer that I feel comfortable calling portable since I don't have to worry so much about finding a plug somewhere. For sure, a well built solid machine. The only cons I have to report is the weight -- I put a clam shell clear protector (which was not that heavy), but I feel that this laptop could be used as a weapon to defend myself if I had to (like the really old IBM mechanical keyboards if you are from my generation). Also, I think there is a small defect on the edge of my screen in the super thin black surround frame which is a purely cosmetic annoyance. I didn't bother to claim warranty on this since I figure it does not really affect the computer's functions.Overall, I would buy it again, although I probably would wait for the M4 that is coming out soon. Kudos to Apple again for creating such a nice piece of hardware.

If you're like me you, you use your trusty MacBook Pro for everything. My last one was a 15 mid-2015 Intel 7-core and the battery was starting to bulge for the third time. It was tired. The fan was constant. Time to upgrade. This computer is a DREAM. I increased the storage to 1TB and probably should have upgraded the RAM to 32GB, but even at 18GB I can run Photoshop, InDesign with a 50+ page document, Chrome with a dozen tabs including Gmail, Outlook, Preview, Notes, TextEdit, and a few smaller programs simultaneously and it's still only hits 85% of the memory and the fan doesn't turn on and nothing gets cranky.I opted for the 16 over the 14 even though I could have had more memory or RAM for the same price, but the 16 gives me the screen real estate I require ... The 14 was simply too small. One of my favorite features of this is the card-slot. I'm a photographer and constantly uploading pics from cards here and it's super-convenient not to have to lug another card reading device around. And, of course, there's the SPEEED. Where I really noticed it the first time was when I loaded images into Bridge and they instantly populated, 500+ pics at 18MB each with virtually no delay. So cool. I also do remote work and that's also significantly faster. One of the best ways to see the speed is to pull up a backup from Time Machine. On the old computer it would think for 10 minutes if I went back in time more than a day to retrieve a file. Now it takes a few seconds and I can scan and find an old version of a doc or photo from a year ago and pull it back to the present instantly. Amazing.Only note: Space Black is certainly sexier, but it does show more fingerprinty residue. I use an external keyboard and mouse 95% of the time, but when I travel I'm on the laptop keyboard and notice the smudges on the side metal. I seem to be wiping it down a lot. But it is still very, very cool.I love this machine. I feel so lucky and privileged to have it, and it's making me a more efficient designer and photographer. Yay!
The design gives the laptop a really premium feel. The all aluminum chassis feels very solid and the space black has a nice look and uniform across the whole device, including the charge cable (unfortunately, not the charging brick). The screen does carry the "notch" but to be honest you don't really notice it unless you're looking for it.The laptop itself is very powerful, and what sets it apart, is it's very powerful on battery. There's a lot of native apps out there now so you get the full gains running natively on the M3 silicone. There's also a ton of apps that run great with rosetta translation error which allows 64x apps to run on ARM. If all of this is greek to you, that's okay, just know that Macs applications are getting better and will continue to get ... MoreThe design gives the laptop a really premium feel. I find that I type very quickly and accurately on the keyboard. The screen is bright, offers great HDR content, and while I would love to see an OLED screen, I can't complain at the quality of what Apple has delivered. It's hard to pick up how well the speakers sound watching videos, you really have to hear it to appreciate it, but they're fantastic. My daily usage revolves around taking Teams calls and checking emails. I plug in overnight, take out at work, and use it most of the day for calls, chats, checking emails, and replying to messages. When I get home, I'm usually around 60-70% battery, depending on how heavily I've used it. I then catch up on the news, watch some YouTube, and do online browsing or shopping if needed. I've not yet felt like I've needed to plug it in, just something I do before going to bed so I know I'm charged up for another fresh day. It's a bit freeing knowing I don't have to show up to the office and find an outlet. I do occasionally edit videos. They don't have a ton of effects or transitions and are usually pretty short. I'm hoping to get to a point where I'm doing more and can better utilize the true potential of this laptop. If I had a negative, it's that MacOS isn't always as intuitive as Apple would have you to believe from all the commercials. There's a heavy reliance on keyboard shortcuts. I wouldn't mind this so much, but the key combinations are not intuitive for where your fingers naturally rest on the keyboard. There's also certain customizations that you cannot do that just doesn't make sense. Apparently in the mail app, swiping right to move to an Archive box just isn't possible. The only reason I can think for doing this is they just don't want to. What I can appreciate however, is how easily it is to search for almost anything on the computer using spotlight, and certain UI choices like stage manager which allows for a more organized way to switch apps. I'm also a huge fan of Apple pushing USB C as the new hotness and I'm disappointed in the rest of the industry for not following. I did struggle to get multiple displays working through my thunderbolt 4 dock, but this could be either the dock isn't compatible with Mac or I need a deeper understanding of how to set it up properly Best I could do was duplicate. In conclusion, I really feel like I'm using the top of the line when it comes to laptops. Strong integration with other apple products helps with productivity and keeping focus but will likely be a point of frustration for those without iPhone. Also know that you're paying for what I call a bit of a designer product that also happens to work great and appeal to the senses.
I have never owned a better laptop computer. With updates for MacOS Sequoia coming soon with Apple Intelligence and things like iPhone mirroring, features that have been great in beta, I think the future is bright for this device. Newer models will always be announced, but I pulled the trigger on this when Best Buy included an additional discount on it before the "Glowtime" Apple event. The computer is an absolute powerhouse for what I do, image and video editing, creating Pages documents and PDFs. Also, I enjoy being able to run NVIDIA GeForce Now on the computer and play all my Steam/Epic/Ubisoft/Microsoft games with high fidelity using the streaming service. One thing I think everyone will immediately notice is the extra long battery life. I have gotten a solid 16 hours of usage and watched full length hi-res videos for two hours without using 4% of the battery. I find that to be absolutely insane that this system can run so efficiently. Do yourself a favor, if you have the money and are ready to buy, do not wait for another year to go by thinking, well there's going to be a "Mx" coming soon. Enjoy the time you can have now with the device, it's going to last you 5-10 years of usage.
If you need to squash work loads and do it efficiently, this is the laptop you need. It is at an eye-watering price, and make no mistake, but you get some premium features and specs that match. It comes with an (almost) 4K screen that pops, especially when watching HDR content. The M3 Pro model I have is extremely fast, and the speakers give off beautiful and crisp sound. If you're looking at this laptop for gaming, it will do the job; however, I still use my ASUS ROG PC to game as this MacBook definitely shows Apple is making a solid attempt to acclimate their machines for gaming but there are cheaper PC's out there that can still outperform this in graphics. That is NOT to say this MacBook can't handle it. I have already played World of Warcraft and Baldur's Gate 3 on this machine with no issues and enjoyed it, but my laptop with an RTX Graphics card can render graphics at higher settings than this MacBook.I have surfed the web, listened to music, ran Adobe Photoshop, Google Earth Pro, and used my iPad as extended display simultaneously without a stutter. The processing power at virtually 4GHz in the M3 Pro is ridiculous and will handle pretty much anything you slam on it. I haven't found anything to make it break a sweat. All and all, this is very good laptop. It has everything you could want (maybe aside from a touchscreen) in a premium computer. If you own other Apple devices, it integrates into the ecosystem very well and makes things like answering calls and text messages more convenient. Just be prepared for the high price point, but if you're reading this review, chances are you are already halfway prepared.

I did it. I finally made the switch after 20+ years of being a hardcore PC user to Mac because I decided creative work was the priority. After reaching a point where my 2018 Windows laptop (ASUS ROG Strix Scar II, 8th gen Intel 12-core CPU, 32GB RAM, RTX 2070) could no longer keep up with the work I was producing. It would always need to be plugged in for full power, which didn't even measure up to what I get now.I'm a Photographer who mostly edits on Lightroom, though I can get pretty intense with the amount of spot healing/removal, adjustment brushes, and global adjustments I make. I honestly don't use Photoshop too much because I lack knowledge, but even then I felt like with the little I would do — it would run slow on my Windows gaming laptop. Now? I'm able ... MoreI did it. I honestly don't use Photoshop too much because I lack knowledge, but even then I felt like with the little I would do — it would run slow on my Windows gaming laptop. Now? I'm able to run on battery x high power mode and edit for hours without charging. Due to the flexibility of using USB to charge my computer — finding a power source (including a wall outlet) is very easy. I can even use a 65W charger in place of the stock 140W charger and it'll charge fairly quick.I see no compromise in performance whether I am plugged in or not. This computer never runs hot at all and allows me more options for where I can sit and work on photos. I used to have to most obnoxious setup to keep my Windows PC cool enough to even function well. The only reasons why I really stuck to Windows for so long were the familiarity of shortcutting, file organizing + navigation, and a little bit of PC gaming. The importance of being able to create higher quality edits or producing massive amounts of standard edits more efficiently far outweighs the need to game. The need for portability and battery performance far outweighed the comfort of familiarity of the Windows system — so I took the time and initiative to get to know MacOS and I was finally able to close this gap after about a month. I'm now shortcut savvy on MacOS and can be as blistering fast in my navigation and organization.Ironically, I've always enjoyed using my iPhone & iPad for my phone & tablet needs, but having the MacBook Pro work seamlessly with the rest of my devices has proven rather satisfying. I've seen videos where people have stated upgrading from an M1 Max or M2 Max to this M3 Max isn't exactly worth it — I can't speak on that because I haven't gotten to experience those systems before. However — my sign to switch was not only the slowing of my Windows laptop, but also the fact that this is the first generation of MacBook Pros with an M chip to get a Black colorway. I'm a big fan of this look and I'm glad I made the switch. All my apps open up almost immediately, function pretty much identically whether I'm charging or not, and even after a lot of changes in a single edit — I don't really experience any slowing. This might sound extreme, but this purchase actually changed my life. I am able to breeze through a high-quantity batch of edits as well as experience lag-free high-quality editing without slowing down — allowing to finally clear a humongous backlog I've had over the year and allowing me to finally clear the queue to take on new projects confidently.I will also mention that the display on this MacBook Pro is absolutely STUNNING. I had a 144Hz IPS matted display on my ASUS laptop that was already nice, but having this stunning XDR display at 120Hz is pretty much the same in refresh rate except the color gamut & contrast ratio makes it remarkable and consistent with iPhone & iPad displays. What I see while I edit is what I get. I used to use an iPad as a secondary display to get the consistency that the ASUS display wasn't providing. If you're someone who experiencing a severe bottleneck with your current system and especially with a backlog — I hope this review helps you. It's insane that this system is far more powerful and has a battery that has crazy endurance compared to a Windows laptop. I'm not sure what Windows is doing, but they can't keep up and even I've been forced to switch to get my time back.Happy New Years, everyone. This new MacBook Pro is definitely helping me start my 2024 incredibly well. I hope we all have an incredible year this year.
I purchased this 16" MacBook Pro M3 Max for photo and video editing. It replaced my aging mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro which was having a difficult time with 4K video editing and using AI noise reduction tools. I have to say, the improvement in performance is nearly indescribable! For a photo editing example. I sometimes run Lightroom Classic's new AI de-noise tool to clear up images that are just too noisy for my liking (low light/high ISO). For a single image, it took around 10 minutes on the old MBP with the cooling fan running on high. It also delayed any interaction with the mouse or keyboard by nearly a minute rendering the MBP unusable until the image processing was completed. This new M3 Max does the same job in 20 seconds and there's no discernible latency in ... MoreI purchased this 16" MacBook Pro M3 Max for photo and video editing. It also delayed any interaction with the mouse or keyboard by nearly a minute rendering the MBP unusable until the image processing was completed. This new M3 Max does the same job in 20 seconds and there's no discernible latency in doing other tasks. I can even process multiple images concurrently! On the video side I use DaVinci Resolve for editing. On the old MBP I could not play video smoothly in the editing window. This led me to often render videos so I could watch in Quicktime then go back and re-edit, if needed. The rendering time for 4K videos was very long. Even a 30 second video could take 15 minutes. The new M3 Max lets me work in the editing window like I should be able to do and renders a 30 second 4K video in just a few seconds.I have yet to hear the fan on this new M3 Max and I have loaded it down orders of magnitude higher than I could the old mid-2015 Intel MBP. The physical size is nearly the same as the 15" MBP as the 16" MBP screen just has less of a black framing around the active area. It's very clear and the battery lasts a very long time making it very portable even while doing intensive tasks.I can highly recommend the 16" MacBook Pro M3 Max. It's a beast of a machine and it looks great, too, in Space Black.
