Bad Microphone, Not For Big Heads

I have experienced so much frustration with it that I would prefer to just buy a seperate standing mic than use the one on the headset. The sound quality is good, i can enjoy shows fairly well and dont have issue with that or the volume or interface. My second issue however is that the headband is not well made. I have a big head, and I read the instructions to gently stretch the headset prior to using it to help it last longer. However, I feel regardless of the pre-stretching, this headset's head band was going to separate. The soft foam, which is comfortable, is just glued onto the plastic top half of the band which makes it easy to separate. I felt this was a very poor design choice on their part. Maybe if you have a regular to small headsize it wouldnt matter, but if you have a big wide head, it wont take long for the headband to begins separating.Overall its good for listening to audio, but not worth the purchase if the microphone is a deciding factor. You could probably find a cheaper headset and get a stand alone mic, or a headset with a microphone that actually works as intended consistently. Also, more recently I will have issue with the bluetooth connection dongle; its not frequent as of yet but worth noting. Granted this is a bluetooth item and I feel bluetooth connections always have a risk of occasional failure. I have been a fan of Razor, but this was just not the best performing product.

You will need to sign up for an account on the razer website, register your headphones, provide proof of purchase/serial number and then you will be provided with one time use redemption code for the surround sound software. The software suffers from the same problem that all headphones attempting to simulate surround sound do, the sound is made louder and slightly distorted. Listening to music tracks with a strong bass with and without the software, I prefer it without because it is a cleaner and more clear listening experience. In games like PUBG that are reliant on directional audio, the software provides no real advantage. Also, the software takes control of your audio drivers and does not like it if/when you attempt to use other audio devices besides the headphones. I actually had to uninstall the software to use my wired headphones I have as backup when my battery on these is running low/dies.- Firmware required to cure a "LOW BATTERY" warning defect. After fully charging and using these headphones for the first time, I was greeted with a "LOW BATTERY" warning every time I fully charged and powered them on thereafter. The warning comes on once after power up, and typically once or twice within 5-10 minutes after powering the headset on. Razer has a firmware update you can download from their website that fixes this problem.Overall I have had a positive experience with these for last several months. If you can pick these up on sale, I highly recommend them. Just make sure to download the firmware update ASAP and avoid the optional surround sound software.

Great Battery Life; Questionable Construct Quality
6 January 2024

Paired this with my PS5 Slim. The initial wear was great. Not too soft ear-cup cushions and not too much clamp force. Fairly light weight.Over time I started hearing creaking noises from both ear-cups when I turn or tilt my head and it dawned on me why these are so affordable and light: plastic headband construction. To fix this I had to retract the extensions, but now I can hear the Mute button wiggling around (apparently this is a very common, if not, is a flawed design with every unit). The headband has some cushioning covered with smooth leather. If you are bald or have hair that slicks back, the headband tends to slip back or forward and need to readjust it every now and then.On the plus side, the battery life is amazing. It's above average.Overall, I could not recommend this headset if you:- Have large head. Extending the headband can cause the ear-cup swivels to creak- Prone to accidentally breaking things. Full plastic construction. Some images on Reddit have completely cracked ear-cup swivels from normal wear

Plagued with audio crackling
21 May 2024

I got these headphones to use at work so I didn’t have to take my personal ones from home every day. On paper, it would work out really nicely because if I ever forgot the wireless connector one day, i could still use the Bluetooth and they wouldn’t be useless like my personal headphones. Unfortunately, every time I plug the connector in and use the 2.4gH wireless mode, there’s crackling with the audio every few seconds. The only way to resolve this (temporarily) is to unplug and replug the wireless connector. If you turn the headphones off and back on or leave and rejoin a meeting, the crackling comes back. Because I got fed up with this and realized it wasn’t a temporary issue after my return window with BB had passed, I had to go through Razer for them to honor the warranty and replace them. Sadly, after over a month of them giving me the runaround and rejecting every proof of purchase I gave them, after changing the email for my Razer account twice because their RMA links didn’t work, the replacement pair has the same exact issue. Do not buy these, because the 2.4gH will be unusable and there are better pure Bluetooth headsets out there. On a positive note, the battery life is fantastic, but that can’t salvage the faulty audio with the wireless mode.

Should you get the Razer Barracuda X

For only $99 USD, the Razer Barracuda X is a great gaming headset. This headset won’t disappoint you with multiple connectivity options, a comfortable build, and pretty good sound. Solid choice

The mic does its job well for casual voice chat and in-game comms. It actually sounds quite different depending on whether I’m wired or wireless, although that could be the fault of my onboard audio. It’s much quieter and a bit thin when wireless but has a dead silent noise floor. I can boost the gain a ton and still get no noise even with a fan running. When it’s wired my voice sounds louder and more full but with some constant background noise beneath it. If you switch frequently you might have to accommodate for that in your settings. The sound of the headphones strikes me as a bit too warm. I find myself needing to turn the volume down when I listen to anything bass-heavy or it wears me out. They’re solidly “good enough” for a gaming headset though. I find myself needing to turn the volume down when I listen to anything bass-heavy or it wears me out. They’re solidly “good enough” for a gaming headset though. There’s a Razer mobile app with a custom EQ you can tweak at least. It's hard to speak on build quality while it's new but there's a lot of plastic so I'd treat it with care. The buttons feel tactile and good to press. Swiveling earcups are nice but I find myself worrying about the extra moving parts it introduces at the joints. They clamp a bit tight and the manual recommends stretching it apart gently before wearing it to reduce stress on the headband, but it’s not an exercise that inspires confidence. I do appreciate the detachable mic though. As far as general usability goes the range is great, latency is low, and the battery life is amazing. It worked for me on Linux (Mint) out of the box, but if I leave the dongle plugged in while I boot Pulse doesn’t seem to bother to make my audio jacks usable for whatever reason. Also the 7.1 surround sound stuff is a Windows-only exe if you care about that. Other than that I tend to get stuck in bluetooth mode when I try to do stuff with the app on my phone, and can’t switch back to my PC until I turn bluetooth off on my phone to force a disconnect.Overall I’d say it gets the important stuff right but with a lot of minor nitpicks and quirks to deal with. It’s my first wireless headset and more than anything else the freedom that it provides has been great. At this price I just wish they could tighten up all the small details a little better.

Very Good "Budget" Wireless Gaming Headset

This is a good gaming headset that could be considered "great" at it's price point (I got it on sale for $69.99).For me its best features have been its aesthetic and the various connectivity options (wired, USB wireless, and Bluetooth wireless); but perhaps most importantly it functions well in all regards. The audio quality won't knock your socks off, but for having 40 mm speaker drivers they perform quite well (mobile device app is needed to adjust the EQ, which is ok but not great). USB-C Wireless performance is very good with excellent range (>30'), but naturally speaker and microphone performance are best when connected via the 3.5 mm cable. The main issue I have had is that while connected via Bluetooth, the audio quality is diminished when simultaneously listening and speaking (when listening only the audio is good). This would be fine for a hands-free calling use case, but not for a gaming scenario on a computer. For that, use the USB-C wireless option which works very well and avoid connecting via Bluetooth.I have been happy with this headset so far, and would recommend it to those who, like me, don't need a top-of-the-line wireless gaming headset, but want something that is of good quality, works well, and doesn't make you feel silly while wearing it 8-) .Note: Try to get it while it's on sale, as I don't know if I would be as happy with it if I'd paid the full price of $99.99.

Out-of-the-box Razer Barracuda:Pros:- mic handles background noise pretty well- rf range works pretty far, even down/upstairs- decent noise isolation- price $70Cons:- doesn't support audio mixing- switching between audio sources kind of annoying- headband could be narrower and curved flatter/rounder- earphones tend to pinch your head, removing the headset after a long session is like taking off a wig at the end of a dayI'm looking for a lightweight wireless gaming headset with Bluetooth for both work (Mac) and gaming (PC, console, mobile). I suppose this makes the noise isolation better, but that's not a priority for me. If the length and curvature of the headband could be adjusted, the weight might be distributed better and the headset might pinch less. I know the instructions say to gently bend the headband before first wearing, but that just makes the headset fit wider on top. Plus, I wouldn't want the headband to break quicker. Cycling through different audio channels using the single power button is a small inconvenience. Overall it's a great value, but less than ideal.I would love it if Razer made a different model that can fit smaller heads more comfortably and that supports dual device audio mixing. I am still deciding between the Barracuda and the Logitech G735, which does have audio mixing and fits better. I'll see which headset I reach for more often.
