PlayStation Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)
The world has fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite soldier unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him. The story of this first, standalone game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project covers up to the party’s escape from Midgar, and goes deeper into the events occurring in Midgar.

I'm going to start this off by saying if you like RPGs or have ever liked Final Fantasy in your lifetime, go buy this game! That should be the first thing you do after reading this review. I will avoid spoilers as much as possible hereI played the original at multiple times in my life and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with this remake. Personally, this is a 10/10 for me (with minor flaws in game mechanics, some cringy things here and there, plus motorball the inner game critic in me says 9.5/10, yes I love this game). Now the reasons why:Characters: You get to dive into each character that you truly interact with. Personally, this is a 10/10 for me (with minor flaws in game mechanics, some cringy things here and there, plus motorball the inner game critic in me says 9.5/10, yes I love this game). Now the reasons why:Characters: You get to dive into each character that you truly interact with. In the original the other members of Avalanche had little impact in the beginning, but here, they truly do. I felt so immersed with these interactions that I cared more for them. You dive more into the main characters as well, with the way they interact with each other as well as getting to better know them without diving into information that will be learned later on. The one who truly showed me the best in-depth work was Dr. Hojo. He is so twisted and evil, in a scene where he interacts with Aerith your skin just crawls. I thought he was evil in the original, but here you see just what kind of person he is.Combat: This is the best combat experience I've come across in FF. Each character in your party has perks that come in handy depending on the situation. Once you get a feel for each character, you can set your leader to whom you prefer towards the end and really go all out. The lock-on is a little tricky as it's very easy to engage/disengage as well as to switch to another target and throw off your groove. For those who are new to the FF world, I recommend not going to hard mode right away so you get a feel for the system.Story: The story of this game has me as immersed as Fallout 3 did. I honestly didn't know what to expect from the Remake compared to the original, especially with the extremely long wait, but I was sold quickly. There are some new features to the story, which some purists would hate (and that is okay, the original is honestly a perfect game), but there's so much to take in. I played easy the first go through because I wanted to focus on the story first and I was very happy with that decision. Avalanche, the residents of Midgar, the social media, & Shinra are just amazing.Overall, when I first heard about the remake of FF7 announced I was nervous especially when they said that the game would be segmented. The biggest downfall of this game is the fact that we have to wait for the next installment of this franchise. I'm excited for this series to be brought back to life and I hope that Square Enix doesn't mess this up

FF7 remake's visuals are incredible, it is awesome to see these beloved characters again in such a grand way. Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith all look fantastic. There's a lot of extra character and charm added to the remake because this game takes place only in Midgar spanning 45 hours compared to the original's 6-7 hour Midgar section. There are some unnecessary extras to pad out the game but I think it was a ton of fun regardless. The new plot elements with the ghosts are strange and I don't really like their inclusion. There are some changed story elements near the end that worry me for the direction that this remake will be taking things, but I am still cautiously excited to see where it goes. The combat is incredibly addicting. It feels very rewarding to learn the combat as you gradually get better at it and eventually master the game's ATB and party member switching systems. The re-imagined bosses are insanely epic. The new music arrangements for FF7's iconic tunes are mind blowing. The gripping Materia system is back alongside summons. A new feature in the remake is weapon upgrading which makes each weapon viable for the whole game depending on the abilities you choose.Highly recommend this game to FF7 veterans and newcomers alike!

I'm a huge fan of the original FF7 on PSX. I beat the game back in 1997 when it first came out. This is NOT the same as the original PSX game - it is a REMAKE, so there are many changes to the original storyline.I was so excited for this. The graphics are incredible. The modern fighting is definitely more exciting. However, this game is REALLY frustrating. There's just too many running around back and forth in the same town, it gets tedious and boring during those moments. Enough with the mazes. It gets annoying. The story and map layout was just much better in the original. There's also way too many boss fights one after another and it's ridiculously hard. This game is definitely not for the casual gamer. The amount of effort that Square Enix have put into this game it really shows. They went to great care with the smallest of details, and the end result is fantastic. The detailed environments really show this. The whole production feels great. The voice acting is fantastic (and there's plenty of it), graphics are very good. The visuals and audio are excellent, they do a great job of really capturing the moment. The battle system is action-based and fluid. Even if you're not a RPG fan, I think you'd find it quite free-flowing. It's engaging. I would call the game genre-defining. Such a strong commendation might put people off, but I'd recommend you try it out.
Back on the PS1 this was one of my favorite games of all time, the fact Square Enix actually remade a masterpiece timeless classic game for modern consoles and gamers without sacrificing what made the original so beloved is a true accomplishment. I was very concerned if they could actually do it. After the horrible hollow empty lifeless game that is Final Fantasy 15 I didn't think they could do modern FF game justice not to mention the short comings KH3 left me feeling. But they delivered the graphics the gameplay the characters it's all here from what you remembered even going as far to flesh out characters big and small and expand on the story as well as even adding new characters to the mix (a certain badass on a bike became a new favorite of mine) but all is not ... DLC you can't play if you don't have a PS5, yup that's right if you payed your hard earned $60 (or more depending if you got the deluxe or collector's) well your tough out of luck! There excuse is the DLC was made with PS5 tec but I call BS on that because it looks pretty much like 7 and you know they reused old assets they already had to make it.Also if your a collector and want the physical on ps5 to get the dlc on disc (as its included in the package) well sorry to tell ya this but the dlc is not on the disc it's a voucher code! It seems like Square Enix takes one step forward 2 steps back. Honestly it's left a sour taste in my mouth and I think I will wait tell all parts of the game (no telling how many there will be) and wait for them all to be bundled together in some super collector's or a All in 1 pack like with KH collection.
This game defies all expectations when it comes to how gorgeous a game can be. The introductory levels convey an incredible sense of drama and life, while the later levels convey a sense of scale that this story definitely deserves. The character models are both visually impressive, and beautifully expressive, which allows minor characters to really shine in a way that they never could in the original version. Some minor graphical hiccups occur (unloaded or poor textures on some places, people popping in randomly), but these are infrequent and not distracting enough to inhibit the artistic direction of the game in any meaningful way.The combat has a great weight and flow, despite being somewhat tricky at first. The game could definitely have done a better job with its tutorials; this is not Dark Souls! But overall I found that I was able to manage the vast majority of the game myself on Normal. Only a couple annoying fights near the end gave me significant trouble, one of which is due to a developer mistake in a regular encounter. The materia system allows for a ton of flexibility and creativity on the part of the player, which is always refreshing! The only major issue I had with the game is the "Nomura needs an editor" problem that occasionally crops up in titles such as Kingdom Hearts. Without spoiling anything, the second to last chapter is an incredibly long and somewhat dull slog with almost nothing directly pertinent to the story, while the last chapter is a mad rush of both insanely intricate (and wildly impressive) boss fights and an unbelievable amount of plot exposition. The issue is that the last chapter really doesn't have enough explanation for the complexity of what is going on, and the final fights can feel a touch undeserved because of this confusion. But lurking just under the surface of this obscurity is a truly phenomenal plot and some incredible creative action. This pretty much comes down to a pacing and cryptic language issue in the last chapter. Trust me, a second play through will be infinitely more rewarding with the understanding of events you will get in the last chapter.I would highly recommend this game to anyone, though only with the caveat that you should not be afraid to use the internet when you get the "I'm not totally sure I follow" feeling; you will get a lot more out of it if you manage to understand the small details.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake is a good game for fans of the series but it felt like an overall frustrating experience. One of my major problems with the game is the amount of filler as you are moving through the story. Story scenarios which were more concise in the original game are now padded and slow down the gameplay. Another frustrating element is the large amount of bridges and tight spaces you need to crawl through, ladders you need to climb. This events introduce animations which quickly become repetitive and time wasting. The gameplay is not bad but not fun, the bosses feel like HP sponges and take too long. Play the original game first if you have not.
After trying 2 sellers on eBay that both turned out to be fake, ordered from WalMart without any issue and it was delivered ahead of schedule. The game itself is excellent, it makes some definite changes from the original and is more of a reimagining but it is a lot of fun all on its own. Visuals and music are top notch, voice acting is mostly well done, battle system is action style much like the other recent FF games. I would have preferred turn-based but it still works. You can save anywhere outside battle in the game which is nice. It still has weapons, armor, and materia plus accessories to play around with. The story varies from loosely following the original to doing its own thing but it is still well done. Of course this is only Part 1 of the remake, they really shouldn't be marketing or naming it as FF7 remake, it is not the whole story by any stretch - just the Midgar portion with some extra stuff added to make it into a full playtime. The new content added is fun but I would have preferred them to just make more progress on the original content and flesh it out. Another thing to note is that the game is mostly on rails, pretty similar to FF13 in that there is definitely no open world and may be a couple sidepaths to take but you will run into invisible walls and characters telling you 'not that way!' all the time. Even with all that taken into consideration, I still find it worthy of a 5 star rating just because how well done everything else is and how it is excellent to get to play as Cloud and friends in a more modern take. The original FF7 isn't going anywhere and is still great itself, but this remake part 1 does well in making something in the same setting that is worth playing.
Everything is going fine until the end when the enemies get so relentless with their attacks you literally can't do anything. The battle system is half thrown together and is one of the worst I have seen yet. Over half of the battles have you running around in a circle for a good minute before you can even make one move. During this time you are relentlessly attacked with no possible way to block it. In the end (WHICH IS ONE OF THE WORST TWISTS EVER) the monsters are like the bosses in the end of the original but you are still the level of just leaving Midgar. Yes the game is so lame it ends with Midgar and no world at all. The battle system alone would ruin this game but the dragged out dialog and dragged out gameplay is so boring it made me almost want to just ... The modern graphics and gameplay enhance that goal, as the game moves seamlessly between character dialogue, cinematic cut scenes, and gameplay. The real time combat system works well at updating the core essence of the turn-based system, although there is a learning curve for those who haven’t played a FF game in a while. One of the major improvements is that Midgar feels much more alive and immersive than the original. Instead of interacting with each NPC, non essential dialogue is eavesdropped automatically. This makes it feel like things are going on outside of the main characters’ experience. However, all main dialogue and character interactions occur mostly during cut scenes. These scenes include more dialogue and plot than the original (a plus) but at the same time veterans of the original who liked mashing square during the plot dialogue may become impatient waiting for the scenes to play out.
