The Pilot E95S is stunning in its beauty and design. It writes smooth as glass with just a touch of feedback to keep you on track. I ordered the medium nib, but it wasnāt as fine as my pilot Metropolitan that Iām used to. With my small writing style, the medium was too broad for me. From my experience with other sellers, once you ink it, you own it, so I thought I was stuck with this pen and will probably keep using my Metropolitan for my notes. Brian said that was no problem and that I can return the pen. He was very understanding and made it clear that my satisfaction was paramount. I flushed the pen clean(didnāt remove any stickers) and the return went smoothly. Goulet Pens has won me over as a customer and will be my go to experts for pens in the future.

After several months of using a āusedā Pilot Elite S with an 18K gold Fine nib I decided it was time to upgrade to the E95S for the larger size. Iāve found a couple surprises in the move. First, I made the mistake of āassumingā the current nib sizes were similar to earlier Japanese nibs. So I ordered the M expecting it to be like the Western F. Wrong, Bucko! This nib is a true M and is very wet, making line width a generous M. It is very smooth and just glides over the page. The other surprise is that it is more āplasticyā feeling than the older Elite. Still, it looks and feels fine in the hand. Rather than trying to use the converter where one cannot see the fill level I plan to syringe-fill Pilot cartridges. Now, Iāll have to see if I can adapt to the wide line.

One of the joys and frustrations of fountain pens is the wide differences in performance of nibs between brands. I have many European pens, and have only just gotten into Japanese pens. This is my first Pilot, and it is quite different from Sailor, which is very different from Pelikan etc. This is a pen review, so I'll just say I like the unique design features of the E95S. It's good value for money. I'm wary of the CON40, which doesn't seem to get much love, but we'll see. But what I really appreciate is being able to walk into a brick and mortar store, try this pen in multiple nibs and walk out with my choice, not having to guess on-line and wait to get delivery to find I didn't get quite what I expected. It costs money for stores to have stock to create this ...Ā MoreOne of the joys and frustrations of fountain pens is the wide differences in performance of nibs between brands. I just recently bought and received the E95s in the mail, and here are my thoughts...I've been amassing a tiny collection for about 3 years now, and this was the first gold-nib pen that I decided to buy. Buying it was certainly a jump for me, especially since most of the pens I've purchased before, ranged from $30-50 USD (with the most expensive being $75). On top of that, as a college student, I couldn't bring myself to drop $200+ on a pen, even if I could afford it. For some context, I've had my eye on the E95s for a while now. After watching countless videos and even testing it out in my local pen shop, I fell in love with it's sleek design, beautiful inlaid nib, and its size, which acts like a pocket pen when capped, but transforms into a regular sized pen when ...Ā MoreI just recently bought and received the E95s in the mail, and here are my thoughts...I've been amassing a tiny collection for about 3 years now, and this was the first gold-nib pen that I decided to buy. On top of that, as a college student, I couldn't bring myself to drop $200+ on a pen, even if I could afford it. For some context, I've had my eye on the E95s for a while now. After watching countless videos and even testing it out in my local pen shop, I fell in love with it's sleek design, beautiful inlaid nib, and its size, which acts like a pocket pen when capped, but transforms into a regular sized pen when posted (I'm a slim pen enthusiast). The pen turned out to be $154 USD after shipping and tax, which was a BIG jump for me in terms of price. However, after receiving it in the mail, I'm quite pleased with the purchase and I'll leave my pros and cons below, which hopefully can help you decide to purchase this fine piece, whether you're leveling up your pen game like myself, or have been a collecting veteran for a while.Pros:- Lightweight, but doesn't feel TOO light.I've had a few pens before that feel so light, that they feel too cheap to even be using, but the E95s feels just right. This pen's weight distribution is perfect for long writing sessions, and sustained its comfort throughout my day of calls with work clients and the subsequent note taking I was doing.- Price is justifiable, and aided by Pilot's reputationThe price, while not necessarily inexpensive, is cheap compared to the vast majority of gold-nib pens and offers a first-class writing experience, premium build and design, while being insured by a company that is known for quality offerings in the pen world. I don't think you'll find another gold-nib pen for this price, that also holds true to the quality that its maker preaches.- It looks even better in person. This pen is absolutely GORGEOUS. In person, this thing looks like it's worth $200+. The inlaid nib, the sleek, black, glossy body, and gold hardware, make for a timeless, yet subdued design. By subdued, I mean no disservice to the pen. But when I look for a pen, I don't necessarily want something super flashy and distracting. I'm not into statement pieces, but rather subtle elegance, and the E95s delivers.- The cap.The cap is absolutely to die for. The pistons on the inside of the cap make for the smoothest capping and un-capping experience I've ever had. It's amazing and definitely makes pulling out the pen that much more fun.Cons:- The nib is not what I expected (BUT DON'T WORRY).The nib is GREAT, don't get me wrong. However, I'm the kind of writer who likes a smooth, glossy experience, and I was quite torn deciding to go with either the medium or fine nib. I decided to go with the fine nib, because review after review stated that the fine nib was a wet writer, and that a medium nib would just be an absolute ink gusher. However, my nib, while responsive, and a pleasure to write with, does give off a scratchy feel. I'm using a Leuchtturm notebook and Pilot Iroshizuku Blue, and find that the line is ever-so-slightly thinner and scratchier than I would've liked. This is a tiny gripe, and I still love the way the pen writes, it will just take a bit of getting used to. If you're a fan of scratchier nibs, but don't want to go all the way down to an EF, then I think the fine would suit your needs just fine.- Con Converter :(((((I LOATHE this converter. I decided not to get a replacement because I didn't think those little metal balls would be an issue once the ink was in, but I can still hear that annoying rattle - ugh. It's okay for now, as I'll order a replacement converter but I wish Pilot wouldn't use this as their E95s standard. That's it! I think this pen is GREAT. It's cool, it's sleek, it's timeless and from an amazing company. Not to mention it's the perfect introduction into the world of gold-nibs. I highly recommend.
I'm very happy I pulled the trigger on this one. It's such an elegant pen in a small package, the posted length is perfect and should suit anyone. I got the Black and Gold with "EF" nib and whoo boy is it just BUTTER and ooh soo fine. Worked well right out of the package. The pen is lightweight but by no means feels cheap, I value the lightness because I have disabilities and fatigue easily. I have no problem with the size of the grip section, it is small but comfortable for me personally and I have big hands. The uncapping and posting is just so smooth yet secure. If you want the "EF" nib I would recommend using lubricated/wetter inks such as Monteverde, just to avoid flow issues or dryness, I found the included pilot black cartridge to be drier but doing great ...Ā MoreI'm very happy I pulled the trigger on this one. I can't gripe about the CON-40 yet as I've just been syringe filling the pilot cartridge. Definitely won't be using shimmer/sheening inks in this one because of the EF nib and hooded design but I'm fine with that! I think it's 11/10 worth the hype from Drew and other reviewers, try it for yourself!
The E95S hardly needs another glowing review, but as a member of its growing fan club I cannot help myself. This pen goes with me everywhere, usually in my shirt pocket. Its gold clip is quietly classy as I go through my day as a teacher. Unlike other pocket pens the E95 has a lovely nib which is the golden star of this pen. It has great flow and elevates the writing experience of even a simple note. The whole pen is comfortable in the hand. If you like demonstrators be warned you cannot easily see your ink level with this pen. If you often have a shirt or coat pocket that could use a satisfying writing instrument in it the E95 is the top option. It is my most mobile pen and therefore my most used pen.
After spending quite a bit of time with good entry-level pens, this was my first "next step" purchase. In retrospect, if I had known then what I know now about the writing experience of the E95S, I'm sure I would have purchased this first. It's a bit like buying scotch. You might feel nervous about spending so much at first, but, if you can muster the will to spend a bit more, you wind up with a product that is well worth the extra money. This is true for the E95s.My favorite feature is the nib. It not only looks wonderful, but the smoothness of the stroke is a pure delight. The style of the pen itself is a great feature. It caps and posts very smoothly. The relative shortness when it is capped means that it travels really well. It has a really comfortable grip and weight. The only reasons I did not give the fifth star are: 1) It feels uncomfortably short when unposted, and 2) the converter sits very low when inserted which makes monitoring the ink level in the pen more difficult. But, all in all, I am more than satisfied with this addition to my collection.
This is the nicest pen I own.I own several pens that are no longer in that beginner range, but this is the first gold nibbed pen that I have purchased and it is certainly worth it!The aesthetics of the pen are up to your taste but for me it was what initially drew me to the pen. You can look at it yourself and decide that. However, what you canāt see is how incredibly satisfying it is to cap, uncap, and post this pen. You canāt feel how smooth this nib is through a computer screen. It is just slightly bouncy to write with. I opted for the Medium nib and let me tell you, this pen is a wet writer. So far I havenāt had a problem with the pen drying between uses but partly because I havenāt wanted to put it down. This pen IS slim and isnāt like a TWSBI or LAMY that has a tripod-grip design so if thatās your jam, this pen may not be as comfortable for you as it is for me. It also is on the lighter side (but does NOT feel cheap) which again, I love, but your mileage may vary. Finally the only downside Iāve experienced so far is that the compatible converter is the CON40 and when inserted, the barrel covers the level of ink. But thatās a really minor issue for me.
From the moment I took my new Pilot-Namiki E95s Fountain pen out out the box, I knew it would be a rewarding purchase. I have purchased several fine fountain pens but this is my first with a gold nib (fine) and it quickly became my favorite writing instrument.
