Formed from multiple plies of bonded hardwood, the drum shells are molded to create a single air resonance chamber to project a note when the drum head is struck. ROADSHOW's bass drum, tom toms, and snare feature a 9-ply Poplar shell for optimum tonal power. ROADSHOW's included hardware package is second-to-none in its class. All stands are dual-reinforced, height and angle adjustable, and feature double-braced legs to withstand the pounding onslaught of the heavy-hitting drummer. With a matching shell and finish, the ROADSHOW snare is full of attack and power, yet sensitive enough for drumming at any volume. The ROADSHOW kick drum features an extended tension/tuning range for low, chest-thumping bass frequencies, and includes locking, slip-free feet (or ‘spurs'), and secure mounting for toms and accessories.

I've been a guitarist for nearly 20 years. Dabbled on multiple instruments and finally decided to get a decent little drum kit. For the money I paid (20% off coupon), this kit is rather nice. Its definitely not a $2000 shell pack but it is great for learning and upgrading as your skills develop. However, these shells ARE NOT 9-ply as stated in the product description. The packaging the kit comes in clearly states 6-ply shells. Being a novice, more ply's was a contributing factor in my purchasing decision.

I've been a guitarist for thirty years and decided to take up drums, so I bought this set. While I'm not an experienced drummer by any means, I am an experienced musician. This is a good, solid set of drums that you can easily grow with. Ditch the hi-hat for something else (I bought Menil 13" hats, which sound worlds better than the stock hats that come with the kit), and put on different heads (particularly for the toms), and you won't go wrong with this kit. Solid hardware and great sounding snare that is very versatile with tunning. I can get a super-sharp snappy sound or a nice fat sound, and I am really just learning how to tune the drums. The sticks that come with the kit are nice, but they are light. Some 5As will do wonders for your sound. I bought this set for my home studio. I was looking for an entry level kit with good hardware. Pearl delivers with this package. The hardware is sturdy and fairly well thought out. The packing and assembly was also well thought out for someone new to setting up drums. The rack toms and snare came fully assembled - just had to install both heads on the floor tom - and both heads on the kick drum (I needed to learn this anyway - and the website videos were helpful for getting some of the basics on installing heads and rough-tuning) The rest was exploring and setting up the hardware. The pedals were pre-adjusted for optimal use (I assume) - they were fine - and seem to be good quality. The cymbals are good to get any beginner through - until they discover something ... MoreI bought this set for my home studio. I was looking for an entry level kit with good hardware. Sound:I changed out the heads (after 50+ years I have a pile of them available) and put on some serious Zildjian cymbals and wha la! Holy cow! Beautiful sound...Features:I've never been a fan of Pearl hardware, but I have to admit, in a static setting, they are hard to beat ... rock solid ... as an in-home kit or practice room kit ... setting up every night, they were just bulky and, over time, became heavy ...Ease of Use:Very easy to tune ... the shells are the #1 reason to buy these drums ... the rest is okay, but not what I look for at this stage of the game ...Quality:It's lasted 6+ months in the music room ... no problems ...Value:Fairly Priced? Absolutely underpriced or overvalued, but the bottom line ... it's great deal for the working drummer ... MoreSound:I changed out the heads (after 50+ years I have a pile of them available) and put on some serious Zildjian cymbals and wha la! So I got this set for my son for his 13 birthday about a year ago. Couple of initial impressions are that this set is incredibly loud, if you haven't been in an enclosed space with a full size drum set with someone playing Nirvana the neighbors will complain:), and it is a fantastic looking set. We debated an electronic drum set but ultimately decided to go with the Roadshow and from a sound standpoint it was the right choice as these sound fantastic. Now to the bad, these have some serious durability issues (I will qualify this statement as my son plays extremely hard for around 1-2 hours a day so wear and tear is to be expected). That being said I've had to replace every drum head, the cymbal, the hi hat, the cymbal/hi hat hardware, and just had to order a new ... MoreSo I got this set for my son for his 13 birthday about a year ago. While I recommend this set based on both the sound and look be prepared to either spend more initially on a better set or while upgrading broken parts relatively quickly.
I absolutely love my Pearl Roadshow. I purchased this drum set about two years ago and play it almost every day for 1 ½ hours. You need to buy cover bags to protect this beautiful set when you travel. You should also augment your drum heads to 2 ply. All of the hardware is of very fine quality except for the throne which broke after 1 ½ years. The cymbals are not very good. But this is actually a benefit. Instead of spending more money on a set with decent cymbals, you choose the cymbal manufacturer that you like when you later improve your set by buying decent high hat, ride, and crash cymbals. Do you like Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, Meinl, or another brand? Go to YouTube and listen to the various options and choose your cymbals. Sound:The cymbals aren't good, but they sound fine for what they are. The drums sound good and you get everything you need to play. I got this for my 8 year old about 6 months ago and he's played them every day since we got them. They have been an amazing kit for someone learning.Features:The most useful features on the product is that it comes with literally everything you need and you will never find a better deal for a budding drummer than this kit.Ease of Use:You will definitely want to replace a lot of the hardware and I will over time. This set seems sturdy enough to last a while. I plan on replacing the cymbals, stands, pedals and heads over time and as needed, but since I just play occasionally and it's mainly for my son to learn on, there's nothing ... MoreSound:The cymbals aren't good, but they sound fine for what they are. I LOVE the look of this set. Everything has held up well over the last 6 months. Granted, as I said my son is 8, he hasn't broken anything playing it yet. I did dent the crash bell when I was playing it and I wasn't going that hard.Value:The value of this set is second to none, honestly. For the price you get a set that you can jam and learn on until you become a pro drummer! It's easy enough to add on to as needed and the look of this set is just snazzy. I feel bad complaining about anything on this set considering I already feel like I stole money from them for everything I got.Manufacturer Support:I haven't had to deal with the company directly, but they have amazing tutorial videos on their site. The Wow Factor:When I learned to play drums some 26 years ago, my mom bought me a cheap set from the local drum shop and I used that set for literally 15 years. She spent more then on that set(although I did get some great Paiste cymbals with that set) than I did on this set. It was a drab black set and it was the best present I ever got growing up. I was so happy that I could do the same for my son and get him a way cooler set than that. It's been one of my favorite purchases I've ever made and it's awesome to see him on his drumming journey and having a blast while doing it.Overall:For my son's 8th birthday, I couldn't figure out what to get him. I was perusing another site(sorry!), and some drums came up. I saw a lot of 250-300 dollar sets that came with everything from brands I've never heard with mixed reviews. So I decided to come to this site and look around and found this set almost immediately. I've always loved Pearl products and this set hasn't disappointed. If you are buying this set for learning or light jamming purposes, then this is the set you want. If you are willing to put some money into it, then you could easily do some light gigging with this set as well.
This is my first drum kit, and I'm very happy with it. I'm a lifelong musician, but new to drums and I've always known Pearl to be a trusted brand. This made me feel comfortable buying a lower end set up. I chose the Charcoal Metallic, but I'd say it's more like a medium grey with a slight blue~ish tint in it. It looks great. The color/finish appears to be printed thin plastic sheets wrapped around the wood (not painted on like higher end kits). The hardware is fair, and adequate for a first kit - more on that later. It was a breeze (and fun) to set up by following the online videos. The color/finish appears to be printed thin plastic sheets wrapped around the wood (not painted on like higher end kits). The hardware is fair, and adequate for a first kit - more on that later. It was a breeze (and fun) to set up by following the online videos. Although I don't have an experienced ear for drum heads, I feel like after having tuned them (also according to a few videos watched), and adding a Drum Dot to the snare and toms, they sound pretty good; punchy, sharp and balanced. The kick drum sounds tight but with a nice boom. The action in the kick drum pedal is smooth, quick and gives a nice thud. The hi-hat sounds decent, and the ride is alright; not great for crashing, naturally. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars for this level of kit is that my hi-hat stand pedal arrived broken (see image attached). You can see that the metal compound used is pretty brittle and weak for certain components. What broke is a 'nub' that attaches the chain to the toe end of the pedal. I never got to use it, so I don't know how it feels. I didn't want to have re-pack the entire drum set to return it just for the hi-hat stand, nor did I want to be inconvenienced by having to wait for a replacement, so I took the stand into my local Guitar Center and they swapped the stand out for a PDP 700 Series stand. While I'm thankful that they were able to keep me going, I was a bit bummed that I couldn't keep a full Pearl set up. The PDP 700 could be better, worse or a fair equivalent, but it's just the idea of not having my set completed the way it should be that sort of leaves me feeling a little disappointed. Still enjoying them very much, though!
Buyer beware. The specs say 9 ply shells but the package once you get it states 6 ply shells and i can confirm they are 6 ply shells alright. Other than that lie on GC specs of it its a good basic drum kit for a beginner. The cymbals would need to be upgraded though and the throne is okay. Long story short....this kit is mid.
Overall:I shopped for months trying to find the best deal on a starter drum kit. This is the one I ended up with, and im really impressed and happy. Never played drums before, so I didn't want to drop $1k on a kit that I wasn't sure I would even get in to. The instructional videos from pearl website are amazing and very insightful for a beginner. You have to put the time in learning how to tune a drum, there is no quick easy fix for that. If you don't have the ear for it you will never get it right. It takes time, practice, and playing around with different tones on the top and bottom head. Once you get it right there's no stopping you. Sure there are cheaper kits out there, but this is the cheapest drum kit you can find that sounds great. Whatever you do dont buy ... MoreOverall:I shopped for months trying to find the best deal on a starter drum kit. This is the one I ended up with, and im really impressed and happy.
