The tool itself is wonderful. You mount it using the provided screw, and it's extremely sturdy. The mount system fits most backpacks (mini has a large strap). However, it could be better. The unlock button is sometimes hard to reach because covered by the camera body. The screw used to lock the mount below your camera can only be used with a hexagonal key (torx). If you are planning to also use a tripod, you have to unmount the pad and attach the tripod pad, it would be amazing to have some sort of "adapter" to be used on top of a tripod.Overall is a great tool, I like to bring my Sony Alpha 7c on my hikes, and having it ready on my shoulder is amazing.

I owned the V2 CapturePRO and used it on my 5DIII, 5DIV and more recently on my R5. I used it on my backpack strap which allowed both of my hands to be free which is great when you are out with the kids. I also loved that the plates were ARCA compatible, so I solely used these plates on my tripods. No additional plates (tripod brand specific, or otherwise) required. The V3 is a great upgrade. The clip is significantly lighter and thinner. = The plate release button on the upper left also functions super smooth without any hesitation. I noticed the V2 would lock up or resist from time to time and required some shaking before the plate (with attached camer) was able to be removed. The plate on the V3 is also a lot smaller compared to the V2 with a much lower profile. ... MoreI owned the V2 CapturePRO and used it on my 5DIII, 5DIV and more recently on my R5. The locking screws seem to screw in easier and I find that the entire process of getting the clip onto my backpack strap is just easier. The screws seems longer, which allows for more room and manuevering around the backpack strap...which may be why it seems easier to get on and off. Both V2 and V3 plates had holes to attach Peak Design anchors to. One thing to mention is that the width of clip on the V3 is a bit narrower as compared to the V2. The V3 is 3 while the V2 is 2.5. So those who intend to attach the clip on straps larger than 2.5 may want to test it out before buying. I was able to get my around my 2.7 backpack strap with a little effort.

I've used the clip a couple times on my backpack strap and it's a breeze to get it into the clip and feel confident that it will stay put. I have not put it to the test of a long day hike so I'm not sure if it would start to aggravate the shoulder from the extra weight of your camera, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I appreciate the two separate pairs of pins that are provided if you want to be able to unscrew them with your fingers or to really tighten it up with the other pair of screws and the provided hex key.My only issue with the clip, and it is a small one, is the side that the release button is on. I'm going to assume that the vast majority of people grab their camera with their right hand because that's where the grip for the camera is. Because of the release being on the side that it is when you go to grab your camera you have to use your index finger to push the release to get at your camera. This process causes just a mash up of your hands and isn't the most natural feeling, especially if you've got larger hands. It seems like it would have made more sense to have the release on the opposite side so that you could use your thumb to press the mechanism. It would feel much more natural in my opinion. Again, it's a very small issue that isn't actually an issue but if Peak Design reads this maybe they can think about it.

I am new to the camera scene and have been doing lots and lots of reviews for camera gear, camera accessories, and new lenses. What I have been seeing with a lot of reviewers is this peak design camera clip on many of their backpacks, shoulder bags, and belts. What I love is that it gives you quick access to your camera while you are out and about or on a hiking trail. I do a lot of landscape photography and where I go are long hikes to capture beautiful scenery and landscapes on my adventures. What I didn't want was a camera strap where my camera would hang and bang against my body while hiking or bang on a rock while I climb. I picked up this accessory since it gives you security that your camera will not move around while hiking, the accessibility to grab it when a photo opportunity arises and easily is able to mount on a tripod without needing to change mounts. I am glad I picked up this kind of gear for my next adventure to Sedona and hopefully I will be able to capture more photos with the accessibility this peak design camera clip gives you.
I love hiking and taking pictures with my DSLR, but I hate having my camera bumping into my chest as I walk. I also don't like supporting it with my hand so it doesn't bump me. I have a holster-type case on my belt, but I fear one of these days the strap will catch, and I'll drop it off a cliff. That's why I purchased this. Perfect clip for my backpack. Easy to attached and I liked that I was able to lock the camera in place. There are two screws that hold the mount in place on your backpack strap. It’s always good practice to double check to make sure they are tightened for each use. The camera mount slid in perfectly to mount on the strap every time and I was confident that it was secure. Very simple to use. I would highly recommend.
Compared with the old version of V3, the most obvious change is the substantial weight reduction and the change in design language. The overall change is a flat, urban casual style. I bought this clip just before a trip to Iceland to use it for hiking with my Sony A7RIV. It's more convenient than carrying a camera swinging from your neck or stuck in the bottom of your pack, but it was difficult to get the camera in and out - certainly not as easy as it appears in PD´s marketing videos. The thumb screws constantly came loose, no matter how tightly I would tighten them, and within a few days one fell off while I was traveling. Fortunately, this was not while I had nothing attached to the clip, so at least my camera didn't fall out, but still... The thumb screws constantly came loose, no matter how tightly I would tighten them, and within a few days one fell off while I was traveling. Fortunately, this was not while I had nothing attached to the clip, so at least my camera didn't fall out, but still... I had to replace it with a hex bolt from another PD product since I didn't have the hex bolts for this product with me - it never occurred to me that the thumb screws would be so flimsy. Also, the finish began to be scraped off the clip almost immediately: The attached photos are after less than ONE WEEK of use! And as you can see, they scratched the bottom of my nearly new (1 mo). Finally, the clip does not attach very well to my non-PD camera backpack. They claim it's universal, but I'm not sure it works on non-PD products.I filed a warranty claim requesting new thumb screws and hex bolts, but given the cosmetic damage to my camera, I'm not sure I want to keep using this thing, and I'm not sure I would recommend it to others. Not nearly the miracle solution that PD is always trumpting with every product they sell. Too bad: The idea is a great one but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. But the performance definitely does NOT live up to the hype.
I use this clip when I want to have a minimalist set up with a small bag and just a couple lenses. It’s easy to set up and simple to figure out. The instructional video shows it attached to a backpack strap but I use it attached to my belt. I don’t see myself using it 100% of the time so I don’t keep the base plate attached to my camera all the time. It is an expensive piece for what it is but it is a quality piece of equipment. I have no concerns about it failing or leaving my camera insecure.
This is the best little device for keeping your camera handy. Lost one in Europe last fall and bought this second one when I got back. I’m a retired commercial photographer. Wish I’d had this when I was working. A bit “spendy” but worth it. Well built, and light weight. Keeps your camera handy when used with a sling or backpack but out of the way while you are hiking.
