I live in NC and own a four of these in the women’s version and wear the heck out of them when the weather dips down. Two I’ve had for over 8 years, the other two within the last 3. So when my high school son wanted flannel shirts I knew exactly which brand to go to. I bought him the Obsidian Plum, Guide Green, and Superior Blue. Beautiful rich colors, nice thick weight and a softness that you expect in flannel. Fit and sleeve length is true to size. Even after multiple washings they never don’t and look and feel exactly as the first day I bought them. The material holds up to his Scout adventures, camping and rough housing while still looking great over the matching Patagonia Henleys for school. The price is on the high side, it’s really good quality flannel after all (but not as high as some other popular brands that loose their color, shrink or fall apart in a year). These really will hold up and last you for many years. Nobody does flannel better than Patagonia IMO. If you are looking for a less expensive alternative, I have found REI brand makes their Wallace lake version which is a very good option and the closest to Patagonia that I have found.

This is a great shirt, a little bit thicker and warmer than many plaid shirts, a real working flannel, perfect here in the Pacific Northwest.Cotton breathes well and has a nice soft hand, which hopefully does not impact longevity. The fit is fantastic for me, it might be old-school -- fits very true to size and has actually long enough sleeves, hard to find! Not a super-slim fashion fit; looks very sharp.I'm 5'11" and wear a 14.5 shirt with 33.5" sleeves, size Small fits great. Also tried on the Medium, the difference wasn't too much but it had more room in the body. Many companies I have the problem where either the torso and shoulders fit, but the sleeves are too short and the hem rides up, or I'm just swimming in it.Last thing, there are a few different items ... MoreThis is a great shirt, a little bit thicker and warmer than many plaid shirts, a real working flannel, perfect here in the Pacific Northwest.Cotton breathes well and has a nice soft hand, which hopefully does not impact longevity. The fit is fantastic for me, it might be old-school -- fits very true to size and has actually long enough sleeves, hard to find! Definitely proving how subjective reviews are; most other low-star reviews complain about sizing changes, which I haven't noticed at all. Fit the same as ones I've been buying since 2018 or so. Patterns, colors, and stitching are all great, as usual. What made me return mine was the thickness of the fabric; the older ones I've had/worn hundreds of times by now are about twice as thick as the current midweight flannels Patagonia sells. I love these as a substantial layer, but they become far less warm and durable when they're about as thin as a standard shirt.Figured I'd found my default flannel for life here, but poor quality has me looking at other options.

While expensive, in this case you do get what you pay for (particularly if you can find this shirt on sale). The medium weight shirt has a generous fit (more of this fit please Patagonia!) and I sized down from my typical Patagonia Large for a medium. I'm 5'8" about 195lbs and this shirt can be worn over a T-shirt or on its own. I like the straight hem and duel pockets. If you are like me - of the grunge era - this one also allows one to channel their innerEddie Vedder. Seriously, this is the perfect shirt for those crisp fall days and is versatile enough to play dress up to go out on the town, or toss on after a hike/bike/trail run sesh for some craft beers or overpriced coffee. Sustainably made and built to last. I've had a few of these for several years. I'm ~5'10" athletic build and Medium fits me like a glove. They're softer than other flannels I've worn, which makes them incredibly comfortable. In fact, I wasn't big on wearing flannels before owning these, but now they've become my ubiquitous fall/winter dress - good for every cooler temperature. I have 4 and they've all held up to everyday (+hiking) use without a single issue. Judging by the sheer number of reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of Patagonia's most-selling items. It is well-deserved.I especially appreciated when Patagonia did a run of these shirts in solid colors a couple of years ago - I wear them to the office in the winter and manage to look professional and stay comfortable!
I have a few of these at this point and they never disappoint. Just pure lush organic cotton flannel goodness.Great for everyday wear or as a cozy overshirt. More comfy, and way more odour resistant than the poly-cotton alternatives that seem more common these days. These will hold a bit more moisture if you overheat but this is a casual everyday piece, not a tech layer.Fit is a standard patagonia regular fit. Just a little extra room to throw a heavier weight baselayer under neath if you want, but not too bulky with just a basic T. Fabric weight is on the heavier/warmer side but doesn't feel unnecessarily bulky.Highly recommended as a piece of your everyday cooler weather kit!Only complaint is MEC seems to get the far less exciting plaids compared ti the ... MoreI have a few of these at this point and they never disappoint. I love these shirts! I have 5 of them and they're my go to whenever I have to look presentable (whatever that means for a biologist). These shirts do shrink a fair amount over time, but in my case I think I can only blame some of that on the dryer. The sleeves run pretty long on the XXL, but the fit is good after the first few washes. I've had one of these shirts for over 6-years and I just finally wore a hole through the elbow (note: I loved this shirt so much that I recently noticed I was wearing it for every picture of me for a 3-year period). These shirts are durable, warm, and wear in like a dream. Just don't eat too much or you'll find yourself shopping for a larger size like me.
Okay, I wear flannel shirts for about six months each year and I’ve gone through a lot of major brands. I actually really like the REI brand ones, but the thickness of the material of these shirts as well as how overall soft they are really stood out to me, so I grabbed a couple of them.A bit of warning, I am a broad-shouldered dude that normally wears a large, but I had to get an XL because of how tight the backs of the shoulders were, so I would say they trend to run a little bit small. One thing that I admittedly didn’t notice or care about but thought it was neat enough to mention: Patagonia is apparently supporting people who are currently trying to go organic. Unfortunately you cannot just declare yourself organic, there is a 3 year period of no chemical pesticide use before you are declared “organic” by the USDA. Patagonia is sourcing their cotton from people who are within that 3 year period, supporting them with what is essentially organic cotton, which is REALLY helping out the small farmers that are trying to do so.
I have two other Patagonia flannels (lightweight). Love the colors of the mid-weights and wish they would make them available in lightweight. I bought two mid-weights because of the colors but when I received them, the arm holes in the pit area and bicep areas are smaller than my other Patagonia shirts. I had not washed or dried them even. Just tried them on. What a weird difference to have, especially when checking the size chart, ordering the same size as my other shirts and both the mid and light weight shirts are organic cotton. Returned them and was bummed. Good customer service though. Hassle-free returns.
What my husband likes the best in this and the fjord flannel shirts he has been wearing for nearly a decade is the comfortable fabric. The material just feels good. The buttons are easy to fasten. He likes the collar (not button down) and the positioning of the buttons.I will add that the patterns and colors are beautiful. The sleeves have gauntlet buttons and the fit generally is attractive. He looks good in it. Even if one is retired, working at home, bird watching, working outside, sitting on the couch reading, it's a good feeling to be wearing clothes that feel and look good.
