Love this bag for hauling kid gear (ski clothes, helmets, boots etc), or beach gear (life jackets, beach mats, toys etc) jn the summer. This bag is tough and I’m not afraid to get it dirty, it wipes off.My only complaint is that when it’s full (and its size / being able to fill it is why I love it), the straps are too short to carry easily - it’s difficult to get it up onto your shoulder. Also, it would be nice if the straps just had a small piece of something like neoprene at the top to hold them together if you wanted, and to slightly pad the carry, as the straps can be rough on skin.Adding one more zip pocket (interior or exterior) would be awesome too.

This tote is well constructed and holds its shape when loading with items. The 61 L turned out to be larger than I anticipated, but quickly realized the size is perfect for storing all of my bicycle gear in one place. The cinch straps allow one to secure contents and decrease the size of the bag by folding in the sides before cinching. Very pleased with the material, quality, and design of this tote. I might order a 25 L in the future. Once again, thank you Patagonia for your continuing efforts to address environmental and social issues.

It’s just straight BH fabric. A zippered pouch or some mesh pockets would make this much better. I’ve even thought about getting something aftermarket. Thanks! You should buy it.

Great large tote
13 April 2024

This is a great, large tote! Holds just about anything that doesn't fit in the smaller version. Cleans well and fairly easy to fold/pack if needed. Handy zip pocket on outside for small items. Have to be mindful of weight when filling it's that big! More useful than you think it will be!

Holds everything the family needs
12 July 2021

This bag is incredibly roomy and pretty lightweight, considering its size, and it quickly became our go-to bag for just about everything. We've used it as our main suitcase for car travel; each family member packs a packing cube and we throw them all in the Black Hole. It also became our family's main beach bag, pool bag, and picnic bag. You can clip straps across the top to keep everything from spilling out, and the one zip pocket on the side can fit a surprising amount of small items -- phone, handful of masks, hand sanitizer, keys. You can also attach additional stuff to the exterior with carabiners. It's new so can't attest to its durability just yet but it feels indestructible. Highly recommend.

Killer Surf Bag
4 July 2024

This newer version of the black hole tote with the thinner coating is really nice, feels just as durable as the outgoing material but also more premium. The handles are really comfortable too. This holds all my surf gear and helps to keep the trunk of my car clean, tidy and dry. Après surf, I put this bag on the ground, stand in it and take my wetsuit off into it, refining my surf ritual and bringing more joy to the process. I read a few other reviews and saw someone complain that this isn't water proof - it might not hold gallons of water, but with all the wet things i've stuffed into it, the outside has remained bone dry. Thanks Patagonia! Been a life-long customer!

The bag itself is great. It holds a ton of items. It's almost to big cause there's no way to organizing anything you put into the bag. First world problem, I know. I primarily use it for running errands, gym, and yoga. This would be a great beach bag as well. It's easy to clean and the quality is great! My only critique and its just a personal preference, are the color options. I got the grey/teal with fish logo. I wish it didn't have the fish cause its huge and I'm not a fishing person, but the bag I chose had the colors I liked so I settled for the fish logo. All the other colors have Patagonia on the side which I would have preferred but I didn't like any of the other colors. Versatile and Durable Bag for All Adventures
15 May 2024

I initially bought this bag thinking it would just be a beach accessory, but it has proven to be incredibly versatile. It’s perfect not only as a beach bag but also for carrying camping gear and even as a mat for changing out of a wetsuit. I've also found it invaluable for keeping my dirty dog contained after a hike to protect my car's interior. The waterproof design, high-quality materials, and the fact that it can be repaired to last a lifetime make this bag an essential part of my outdoor adventures!

Why is the bottom not waterproof?
6 April 2024

I bought this bag thinking the entire bag was waterproof. I work with marine mammals and need something to store my wet gear in for the drive home. I didn’t realize only the sides of this bag are waterproof until my backseat was soaked from the water from my gear soaking through the bottomof this bag. I can’t imagine a scenario where it’s helpful to have the sides of a bag but not the bottombe waterproof, but I can imagine many scenarios where it would be beneficial for the bottom to be waterproof. Patagonia: please consider making an entirely waterproof bag.

great bag - wish for more pockets
5 September 2024

I love a tote and this bright green/yellow colorway has me *heart eyes*. The previous reviews about using it for the trunk, as a literal stand-in for changing, and a good catch-all are all true. I use it for my bike accessories and toss it from the gear closet into the trunk before rides to keep helmets, bags, bottles, locks, etc. all in one place. The gear loops on the outside are a helpful touch to clip a carabiner to. The straps that go across to cinch it closed are somewhat helpful, but more interior pockets and the handle straps being an inch or two longer would make this 5 stars!
