Bomber bag. Good size. Sheds water well.

While it's not technically waterproof, I clip it on the raft and it usually sits there all day and takes most splashes and short rain showers with good natured aplomb. If I leave it in the rain too long some water makes it in but it's minimal and I'm always impressed by how much it keeps out. I wouldn't want to flip the raft with a camera inside, but for some snacks, rain gear, and sunscreen, it's been awesome.I like the 25l size - it's a tad smaller, but in all the right places. If I dig deep for a complaint, I should have bought a lighter color since the black can really warm up in the sun - but that's not the bag's fault. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Finally a Blackhole pack for petite person.

I once bought the old version but returned it as I couldn’t find a comfortable way to carry it on my back. The minimal organization pockets work great for my style of carrying- Right now it’s been my everyday carry work bag- the 25L doesn’t have a separate laptop compartment for easy access like the 32L, it is tucked inside the main compartment but it does fit my MacBook Air in a sleeve. I plan to use this pack for my upcoming international trip and many many more. The only Con for me is that the front zipper opens to the ā€œrightā€ side (the old version I believe is to the left?). Depending on which shoulder you fling a pack on single shoulder, mine is left, so I can’t reach the pocket with my left arm now…

Good but not an improvement.

The quality is there! Top-notch, quality material that is pretty water-resistant. (Although, after a day of rainfall, the contents of my pack are definitely wet.)2. There are some weird design choices. Good, but with significant design oversights
12 June 2024

A decent little pack. Materials seem robust, appreciate the available pockets but...it has some design oversights that just leave me scratching my head, especially because this pack is ~$150 USD:1) the upper-most grab handle is on the "lid", not on the back panel above the shoulder straps. This makes grabbing the bag while it is open a precarious proposition, as the bag kind of flops around. Additionally it means you can't hang the bag from the handle and access the compartment. This handle is really just silly and should be attached to a more stable point. Putting it on the back panel above the shoulder straps would literally only move it 2 inches down, so its accessibility would not be impinged. Plus, it is redundant since there is another grab handle on the back ...Ā MoreA decent little pack. Great backpack for day to day and light travel
24 July 2024

I’ve used this backpack for two months now for daily work and also for a ten day surf trip to Indonesia. For daily use it’s great. Laptop and jacket and lunch fit inside no worries along with a the usual suspects like cables and water bottles. It’ll fit a Nalgene in both side pockets which is great. For travel it really shone. Camera, iPad, kindle, a couple pair of board shorts and some shirts, toilet bag and passport and related paperwork all fit and are easily accessible. Just the right amount of pockets to put stuff. The only thing I’d highlight is it sits very close to your spine so, while very comfy, it can get a bit sweaty on your back on hot days.Zippers are really excellent and still work when you pack it too full. Great bag.

I bought this backpack just over three months ago for work and travel. I have now used it as a travel bag several times, taken it with me on hikes, and bike/train commute with it to work every day. It has held up great.Pros:- very stylish-daisy chains on the back are useful for bike helmets, climbing shoes/chalk bags- water resistant (haven’t had any issues with light rain, but haven’t taken it in downpour)- easy to travel with. This is a problem if you are standing somewhere and need to hold your bag while getting something out/putting something in, it’s really difficult and awkward. I know it seems trivial, but with commuting I’m often taking my coat off and putting it in my bag, and it’s just so awkward. Not to mention the kind of stress this design puts the zipper under.Overall, I would still recommend the bag as long as you’re not someone who would like to open your bag while standing and holding it. It’s great otherwise! I will likely keep my bag and sew on a strap on the other side myself to make it work.

Perfect day trip backpack for streets and mountains
15 January 2024

I am Jakob, 1.80 metres tall and use this bag as a day trip bag for hikes or ski days on the mountain. With a capacity of 25 litres, I have all my utensils perfectly stowed away and the bag fits snugly on my back. I finally jumped on this bag because the shiny material in previous versions just never really appealed to me. I have used this bag on my recent mountain tours, both ski touring and hiking. The rucksack is particularly suitable for a day trip. Even though it doesn't look that big, it fits an incredible amount of things and can be packed very sensibly. Very practical for me is the small zip pocket on the outside of the rucksack to quickly stow small items. I also really like the laptop compartment as it has extra padding. My only suggestion is that the zippers be bigger so they side easier. I have to use two hands to guide the smallish zippers around the top flap of the backpack. Not a deal breaker, but inconvenient.I would recommend this bag to anyone who wants to spend a day in the mountains with light luggage. But I think the bag is also ideal for the city, for example thanks to the padded laptop compartment and drinks holder.

Perfect everyday/work backpack.
12 August 2024

I own a few Patagonia Black Hole products in various sizes and love this series. I was looking for a new work backpack and this checks all the boxes. It feels very compact and slim, while still fitting the items I need and having a lot of storage options. There are a lot of unexpected details on this bag that I love, like the mesh zip pocket on the inside for safe storage of smaller items, the amount of gear loops on the front (perfect for hanging climbing shoes off the front for a lunch session halfway through the work day), the unique zipper design of the main compartment which feels safer walking around the city than a traditional backpack since it's harder to unzip from the back, and the softness of the laptop sleeve. My only complaint is that I wish there was a ...Ā MoreI own a few Patagonia Black Hole products in various sizes and love this series. The best commuter bag!

I came here looking to replace my current version on this bag (my current bag has partied a little too hard) and I am surprised that the rating for this bag isn’t higher. I’ve had this bag for 7+ years and I’ve been highly impressed. It’s comfortable, has multiple padded sleeves for laptop/tablet, mostly waterproof, and has enough pockets that you can organize to a degree, but don’t lose track of things because you have too many pockets to look through.I’ve used mine primarily for bike commuting to work/school and occasional travel. You can smash more than you would expect into it and it’s water proof enough that I’m not afraid to bike home in the rain with my laptop. The pocket on top is also great easy access for phone/snacks/etc.Some of the complaints from other reviewers are valid - if I use a smaller waterbottle it’s not always secure (Nalgene is very secure though) and it doesn’t stand up on its own. But for biking to work with a computer, workout clothes, and a lunch - or an under the seat bag for flying it’s the best. It’s a backpack, not Mary Poppin’s magic bag - it’s not goi going to be everything for every single person. Now all I wish is if they would bring back the fun clothes (aka the hot pink!!) I’ll be keeping an eye out in hopes that the fun colors return. :)

Putting aside the shiny vs. matte preference, I prefer the overall design and feel of the older version better. They added a vertical strap on the back to attach to your suitcase but you would have to turn the pack on its side to use that. I don't understand if designing this for travel, why do away with the tablet sleeve? The new pack is 4 inches shorter and doesn't show above my shoulders when wearing it like the older one does. My biggest issue with the new design is the fabric on the straps and back feels very scratchy and rough on my skin, and the pack just doesn't sit as nicely on me. Overall with the new fabric, smaller size, not as good fit, and velcro, it just feels like a cheaper pack and feels like a kids backpack a bit. I did confirm with a rep that both versions have the same level of water resistance. After wearing them both packed up around the house, the older version just felt like a grown up, more comfortable backpack to me. I much preferred wearing the old one.
