The vest is excellent; it is the right weight for the in-between season here in the mid-Atlantic region. (Fall may last all of five minutes, but I want this vest for each of them.) I have been trying to find excuses to wear this, and so far it has been perfect for inside the house on cold days before we turn the heat on and for long, chilly morning walks. Thinking of turning down the thermostat at work just to have another reason. Patagonia has the perfect clothes for every weather.(But why, oh why, can I not add contractions to a review? No apostrophes allowed?)

I already had this vest in grey and now just purchased in black (so I have some advice since I have had it in another color for years). I'd say it runs TTS - I am 138lb, 34B, 28 waist and medium fits me perfectly. Size up if you want it looser and more oversized, but the medium is fitted but comfortable for me (not tight). Thought the black would be a bit speckled based on some pictures but it's pure black which I love. It looks really flattering on. It's warm but very lightweight. I wouldn't recommend if you're hoping it will keep you warm in super cold weather - I'd say it's perfect for fall in Colorado (where I am) or in winter time I sometimes wear it under a heavy coat to provide extra warmth. I think you could still wash on cold/delicate but just hang to dry. One of my staple pieces of clothing, I wear it ALL the time. Go for it!

I especially like the knitted rather than fuzzy fleece texture and that it's recycled poly. We're avid hikers, so this is perfect for layering. The blue is pretty, but almost grey. I'm an average Medium, but a little busty, small hips. 140 lbs. 5'6". It's important that it's fitted, and it's just right. It's just what I need to stay warm without bulk.

I bought this vest for my RN daughter in black, and she found it too long so gave it to me as I am a bit taller than her. I’ve loved the look and the lightweight warmth, however it showed pilling after just a few months of wear. I literally have to shave it every time I wear it! I am sure the lighter color (Birch White) does not show the pilling nearly as much and I’m thinking of purchasing one in that color.
I purchased this as a replacement for a dog-destroyed Nano Puff Vest. I like the Better Sweater overall fit, fabric and warmth better for layering. It keeps my core warm without my arms feeling constricted. Used for long xc ski days over R1 hoody and is perfect system. I have broad shoulders and chest, L hits at hip and snug fit prevents air from sneaking up underneath layers. Zipper holds strong. Have used for spring gravel rides too.
I was disappointed to see that the vest doesn't have a placket behind the main zipper to help keep wind and cold out. It does have a small backing at the top neckline to make the zipper comfortable but that is all. I purchased an LLBean fleece sweater jacket this year that has an excellent placket that runs the length of the main zipper. Thats how to make a quality product. The Patagonia product description online says it has a kissing welt closure and a hidden wind flap. What and where are those? The sizing and cut is fine as I usually wear a small in Patagonia. Its medium warm.
This vest is comfortable, warm, and seems very well-made (the stitching and fit of the pockets, arm holes and collar are excellent). The zipper is super smooth – when I need less warmth, I can easily engage the base of the zipper behind my back as I walk. The “sweater style” outer surface is new to me. I am hard on clothes. But so far (one month) no issues.
I actually swapped this for a smaller size - ordered up and didn’t need to. 5’5” and 135lbs- medium is a little big on me, but comfy for long workdays and commuting. Fits well, warm, soft, and so far no issues with pilling or anything else. It was worth the risk considering Patagonia makes good any issues you have for the life of the item. My iPhone 12 fits great in the outer pocket and I really love the inside pockets for light things such as a mask. I wear this regularly to the office with a long-sleeved shirt underneath and it’s perfect to keep the chill away without being too hot.
This vest definitely puts the sweater in the fleece vest. I have bought this as an additional layer for hiking and backcountry adventures in addition to my down jacket and shell. This fits well, has a nice stretch and is a reasonable weight. Not sure how warm it will be. But I think a good additional layer.
This is an attractive and functional vest that I use for many daily activities. It is warmer and not as noisy as the many nano vests I own. Very soft, and I love that it uses recycled materials. I normally wear S in Patagonia but this is a slim fit, so I ordered M and it's comfortable. My first better sweater piece and it's a winner.
