I have always been a fan of Panasonic Lumix Cameras. Maybe its because I like the underdog. Well the Lumix S5IIX is far from being an underdog and seeing how the Lumix S5II has performed since its release is what really attracted me to this camera. With all the improvements made to the A-Focus and the best image stabilization around.I am mainly going to use this camera for video, but I like having the capability to do photography I couldn't be happier

I bought one of these to test it out and to see if it made sense to use it to replace/upgrade my GH5's. I use the Lumix cameras for B roll and gimbal work and I shoot mostly on Z Cam. I use adaptors so I can use my Canon glass. Just using the camera you'll be amazed at the features but you don't get any evidence of the quality until you bring it into your editor. I filmed the exact same scene with the same lighting on my GH5's and the S5M2X without log on both cameras. The blacks on the S5M2X were pure black, no grain like what I got on the GH5. The DR was noticeably better. Plus the quality more closely matches what I get from the Z Cam. Bye, Bye GH5's.

I'm coming to this review from an interesting place: My other camera is micro four thirds (an OM-1), and my _prior_ full-frame camera was a Sigma fp.The Lumix S5 IIX has the advantages I purchased it for: It's full-frame, with the associated advantages for portraiture; it has a range of lenses available with good weathersealing (not IP53 as Olympus pro offerings, but still good), great sharpness, and reasonable pricing (the Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 is perhaps the prime I use with it most frequently); it can record video in BRAW while connected to a Blackmagic Video Assist; and _unlike_ the Sigma, it has IBIS.So why not five stars? The short answer is that I've been spoiled by the OM-1 on usability, shiny features (live compositing &c), and range of physical controls. ...Β MoreI'm coming to this review from an interesting place: My other camera is micro four thirds (an OM-1), and my _prior_ full-frame camera was a Sigma fp.The Lumix S5 IIX has the advantages I purchased it for: It's full-frame, with the associated advantages for portraiture; it has a range of lenses available with good weathersealing (not IP53 as Olympus pro offerings, but still good), great sharpness, and reasonable pricing (the Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 is perhaps the prime I use with it most frequently); it can record video in BRAW while connected to a Blackmagic Video Assist; and _unlike_ the Sigma, it has IBIS.So why not five stars? The short answer is that I've been spoiled by the OM-1 on usability, shiny features (live compositing &c), and range of physical controls. The Lumix S5 IIX is a fantastic camera for videography and low-light shooting. It really does great in capturing high-quality footage in challenging lighting conditions, thanks to its excellent low-light performance and dynamic range. The camera offers impressive 4K - 6k video recording with a variety of codex from SD cards to SSD's, the autofocus system is fast and accurate only once you learn how to work the focus modes. While it may not be the top choose for still photography being a Panasonic it's a top-notch option for professionals and video enthusiasts who prioritize video quality and low-light performance. DON'T SLEEP ON THE S5II
I watched a bunch of youtube videos before pulling the trigger on that one. Im still learning to use this beast of a cam. I use it mainly for youtube content creation and personal stuff. The pic quality and sharpness is 10/10 im using a 50mm Lumix S lens which is compact. The feel is great. The video is next level. All and all bang for the buck its gonna be hard to beat camera.
Pros1. The ability to record higher quality to SSD is phenomenal. It's an easy workflow to just plug the SSD into your computer and work directly from it. Then, you can keep your final edit, which is much smaller, and delete the original footage if you never need it again. I can confirm that it works with the Samsung T7 Shield 2TB.I use the SmallRig clamps https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1494413-REG/smallrig_bsh2343_universal_holder_for_external.html?sts=piI put the SSD on the 6.5 Vello V-rig adapterhttps://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1033376-REG/vello_cb_485_v_rig_6_5_triple_shoe.html2. The battery is the same as DC-S5. So, if you're upgrading, you can keep/use all of of your existing batteries.3. The unlimited recording with the fan is a great feature, and the fan noise isn't recorded.4. The in camera 6K/30fps produces beautiful videos, allowing nice cropping on 4K final results.5. The ALL-I 1080/120p produces the sharpest 1080p I've seen, and I enjoy using it to record my sons playing basketball and producing slowmo highlights.6. The AF is noticeably better. It does a better job not losing my human subjects and not having the focus breathing of the S5. I'm thoroughly impressed.7. The IBIS is shockingly good, especially for photography. I did a 1/8 shot (didn't try slower yet), and it was perfectly sharp with no movement blur. It looked like something from a tripod.8. The dynamic range achievable with the VLOG is eye-popping.9. The number of custom configurations is very convenient for quickly changing your shooting settings.Cons1. It does NOT come with the Panasonic battery charger, which charges WAY faster than the Wasabi charger that I own.2. It turns on noticeably slower than the original S5. Not a big thing to me, but I can tell it.3. If you record above 60fps, it stops using Phase Detect autofocus, and reverts back to the same autofocus as S1, S5, S1H, and S1R.
I just received my S5iix and my very first impression was that I couldn't read the lettering on the mode dial. I had to get a flashlight. Using such low-contrast lettering was a stupid choice by Panasonic.
I really like the Lumix camaras. The have the best bang for the buck and the S5iix black out addition with key videocentric features is the swiss army knife of the hybrid camera world. I very happy with this purchase. Great product.
The autofocus has been heavily improved and it has a plethora of recording modes to take advantage of. I also got this in a kit with the 50mm lens for just $50 more than the original price of the camera.Great deal. Great Camera. I am satisfied. :)
This new S5iiX is perhaps the best value of any camera on the market. The images and color are gorgeous, and color science is excellent. So much so I sold my Canon C70. The S5iiX is much more versatile and useful.Panasonic has outdone themselves in creating a camera that is so convenient to shoot video there's nothing quite like it. All the cinematic tools you need are at your finger tips; tools the other companies that make hybrid cameras refuse to include: wave form, C4k, shutter angle, and much much more, even false color with one of the ten possible LUTS you can store, Plus the Panasonic V-log is wonderful to grade, with a wide variety of LUTs to choose from. They are perhaps the only truly video oriented hybrid camera makers. The GH5 was revolutionary in its time and is still excellent. the S1H was ground breaking, but the S5ii X has knocked it out of the park with the bases loaded.Truly cinematic video features at your fingertips, excellent AF, a wide and growing number of excellent affordable lenses with microscopic focus breathing, state of the art stabilization, making hand held shooting a joy, 15 stops of dynamic range in full frame, NLE editing like butter with Pro Res, easy to grade V-log, tons of buttons that can be easily assigned, and much much more. Thank you Panasonic for making such a fantastic, easy to use camera. You've set the industry standard. Once you shoot with the Panasonic S5ii X, see how easy it is and how special the images out of the camera are you'll be hooked.I only wish I could give the camera and extra star in thanks to Panasonic
