This bone was my dogs absolute FAVORITE as a puppy and for a treat or when we needed her to be busy we would still give her one at 1 year old a couple times a month and she was always excited. Well, my sweet girl had to have emergency obstruction surgery, the vet found a piece of this bone the size of a peach pit stuck in her small intestine. After 5k and many tears later she came home. I looked at the package of a new bone we had on the cupboard, in tiny print on the back it says not for dogs with adult teeth or strong chewers. What the heck??! This should be written on the front of the package. I thought if it’s for puppies, it’s ok for her.... I’m so upset that I gave this to her,

My 7kg puppy destroyed the small one in a matter of hours and the medium in less than a day. I contacted the UK distributor, as the website says it breaks into pieces the size of a grain of rice which will harmlessly pass through - but it doesn't - it breaks into choking sized pieces! The distributor is not remotely interested and told me not to give it to my puppy if it breaks into bigger pieces - which it states it should not do in the first place! They also state that they have never had a problem with these chews - I must be really unlucky to have got 3 faulty ones then! Thankfully I was keeping an eye on him. I will be avoiding nylabone products in future.

These puppy Nylabone chew bones are DANGEROUS, DO NOT BUY them! They have the potential to be a serious choking hazard or cause intestinal blockages. For the longest time, Benji was disinterested in the chew toy, but one day he decided he kind of liked it. Unfortunately, he managed to chew off a chunk and swallow it. We were super lucky that he ended up throwing up the chunk, but it could have ended far worse. I threw the toy away immediately after he threw up. I should have heeded the warning of some of the reviews. For a toy designed for puppies, I really do not believe this toy will last with most puppies.

My dogs have strong chew instincts. Board certified veterinary dentists tell me not to use any chew that would hurt if you hit it on your knee- that leaves most chews out. So anything hard has a risk of fracturing teeth. That said, my dogs would chew things not meant for dogs if I didn't provide chews. I bought this type of nylabone because it was not as hard as the regular kind nor as hard as an antler or other chew bone. I started with the smaller size (they are small dogs, under 10 lbs) and they loved them but wore them down quickly so this time I bought one size up. They don't seem to like this size. For a couple mornings I would take him out of his crate and find chewed up pieces of it that he had swallowed days before. My 8 month old puppy is in the hospital because she chewed some pieces off the bone. We took it from her but it was too late. She may have a partial obstuction and inflammation of her intestines! These bones are dangerous! So far I'm spending $1300 on vet care and more if she has to have surgery!
I gave my 6 month old labrador this chicken chew bone to play with. When i was putting her toys away on the nighttime there was only half of the bone left. I couldn't find the other half. We realised that she had eaten it. My lab had great difficulty pooing. It took 2/3 days for it to pass through her system with a lot of discomfort, blood.,mucus. On the 2nd day she managed to pass chew with blood. I just wanted to warn others.
Got this because even though our 8mo old GSD has all her adult teeth, we worried that the way she chewed up the harder Nylabones made for tough chewers could fracture a tooth. She's had this now for 2 days, and the softer texture seems to be comforting to her. She seems to be chewing more gently. So far she hasn't chipped off any flakes, like she does with the harder Nylabones in record time, and which we often take away from her after 2 days when we find little chips of the plastic in the carpet. While it seems counter-intuitive to give a 77lb puppy a softer chew bone, when she can demolish a tough chew in no time, it seems to be slowing her down and she's enjoying it more, and we feel that this softer one is safer for her.
When my Maine coon started teething I pretty quickly got to my wits end- she was chewing on everything ? including me!! My friend suggested getting her some puppy teething toys and this was PERFECT, it was really easy to redirect her from my fingers to the bone, and she ended up demanding it go with her everywhere and it's still one of her favourite toys!

My family was opening Christmas presents when I noticed that Chewy had eaten half the bone, which I promptly took away from him and tossed in the trash. As a few others have mentioned, it did not sit well and Chewy threw up several times on Christmas Day, so hopefully none of the pieces are still in his system. I take the blame for not reading the description of the item and the reviews more carefully, but I still think it’s fair to warn others, as I thought the softer bone might prevent him from bleeding when he chewed in ...
