It's the Nikon 105mm micro. It's an amazing lens that takes great photos. It's been on my wish list for a long time. The lens creates sharp images. I'll be using this lens a lot.

I purchased this lens over the Sigma lens because I wanted a high quality macro and the reviews on this lens are stellar. Unfortunately, this lens has all kinds of issues. The first being the price. The second being the terrible vignetting all the way up to f8. I was planning on using this lens as an all around lens for portrait photography as well as macro work. Well, the vignetting made that impossible. I returned the lens and went with the Sigma equivalent. The Sigma, by far, out performs this Nikon lens. No vignetting, superior color rendition and the sharpness is unmatched. I will never buy another Nikon lens because of this....

The D810 is known for sometimes being a little slower than other cameras to focus but I haven't had that trouble with this lens yet. I was able to get crisp photos of a dragon fly's wings with auto focus tracking on and even with the wind moving it in and out of the frame it was able to keep it in focus. When I use manual focus for more still images I was amazed with the detail it rendered. This is my first macro so I don't have much to compare it with however have not notice any distortion. In fact Lightroom's profile for this lens doesn't make any noticeable changes. The sharp to soft is great and really pulls the subject from the back ground. I uploaded some images straight out of the camera so you can see what the RAW (lightroom adobe standard profile) with no touchups looks like. I love this lens! It is what I need for photo scanning, plus it's just fun to use the macro/micro to take great close-up photos of flora and fauna. It arrived in good time and in good shape. The original box (inside the packaging) was a little bent on one corner, but it doesn't seem to have affected the lens.
I bought this lens based on excellent reviews of this product.After purchased, however, I was very disappointed about the lens. It made loud clicking sound every time I took photos. Considering that the lens would be used to take pictures of close range insects, it would scar them away. Also, the lens hunted a lot for auto focus. The closer I got to the subject, the more hunting it became. Due to the hunting, one out of four shots were out of focus. After struggling for four days, I finally decided to return the lens because of these defects. I have total of seven Nikkor lenses. This is the first one I had to return. Adorama agreed with my return without any hassle. Really appreciate Adorama's business ethics. Adorama remains my favorite camera equipment vendor.

Previously I owned and loved the Nikon AF-D Micro 105 mm. This lens adds an excellent VR or vibration compensation ability to the lens to lessen shaking and un-sharp photos. This lens is excellent for portraiture due to its fast aperture (f/2.8) and longer distance (105 mm) compared to kit lenses, thus permitting nice bokeh (blurring the distance behind main subject). It's also excellent for fireworks. The 105 mm helps to better fill the frame and the faster aperture helps to shorten the time needed to get the shot. As an example I was shooting a match box car about 16" away setting so I could see the front and one side. In order to all 2" of the car into focus, bumper to bumper as it were, I had to shoot at f13.
