McVitie's Digestive The Original 400 G

These have been changed by McVities and what was my favourite biscuit by a country mile is now nasty. Soft, pale, claggy texture, doesn?t taste the same. I wrote to McVities last year in lockdown asking why they?d mess with a classic, they said something about a new facility producing them. No idea why you?d allow a classic product to come out completely different but they clearly aren?t worried since I bought them again yesterday for the first time in maybe a year and they remain terrible. I was hoping they?d have brought back the old version but seems they?re not too fussed people don?t like their products. Such a shame that they seem to think it?s fine for some of their customers to get the nasty version and others seem to be able to still find the old one. Disappointing.

These are overbaked, burnt tasting, and dry like cardboard. It's not the palm oil, as the biscuits used to contain this when they used to taste good a few years ago. I am fine with palm oil as long as it is environmentally sourced. Palm oil has no taste and is safe heated to high temperatures for cooking (any saturated fat is fine for cooking, such as butter, or refined coconut oil, but polyunsaturated fats such as sunflower or rapeseed are partically bad for you when heated). The main problem with these biscuits is just that they have overbaked them, causing the end result to be dark brown instead of pale golden. It's also possible that the quality of the wheat is much poorer than it used to be.

I fell in love with Digestive biscuits while living in the UK, so I know the quality difference between the one’s that come in a red box packaging or simple red foil wrapping.Even though more expensive, I intentionally ordered the biscuits in the red box packaging, still got the other version delivered. As expected, at the first touch, the biscuits immediately fell apart, broke into small pieces.Also worth mentioning, delivery arrived late.
