Maus I & II Paperback Box Set by Art Spiegelman
A boxed edition of the two paperback volumed of this 1992 Pulitzer Prize-winning illustrated narrative of Holocaust survival. Maus tells the story of Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish survivor of Hitlerβs Europe, and his son, a cartoonist coming to terms with his fatherβs story. Maus approaches the unspeakable through the diminutive. Its form, the cartoon (the Nazis are cats, the Jews mice), shocks us out of any lingering sense of familiarity and succeeds in βdrawing us closer to the bleak heart of the Holocaustβ (The New York Times). Maus is a haunting tale within a tale. Vladekβs harrowing story of survival is woven into the authorβs account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. Against the backdrop of guilt brought by survival, they stage a normal life of small arguments and unhappy visits. This astonishing retelling of our centuryβs grisliest news is a story of survival, not only of Vladek but of the children who survive even the survivors. Maus studies the bloody pawprints of history and tracks its meaning for all of us.

This "graphic novel" absolutely blew me away and I am adamant it can be enjoyed by anyone, even people who claim to dislike comics in general. There's a reason it won a Pullitzer! This is one of the books that I often give to people as presents when I can't think of anything else and it always goes over well. MAUS is the true story of a holocaust survivor, told in comic form by his son (the author/artist) Art Spiegelman. At the same time, MAUS includes snippets of the lives of the characters in the "modern day", the relationship between Spiegelman and his father and how his father's attitudes (no doubt shaped by his experience) have affected those around him. MAUS goes beyond being "just" a Holocaust story, and not simply because it is told in a new form. MAUS was originally published in two parts which have been collected here in a box set (paperback, I believe). The individual books are also available, as well as a single volume that collects the whole thing.

These two books are wonderfully descriptive. I loved them as a young adult, I read them again when I was older and still enjoyed them. I got them for my son so that he could experience them as well.

This slowly unveils a holocaust survivors memories and the impact it has on the next generation. Great art work in a format that does not glorify or diminish the story, woven together with careful use of words that create something unique and haunting. Mixed with layouts, photos and diagrams to bring the reader into the narrative. A magnificent feat by Spiegelman to be both the storyteller and also part of the story as the son of the survivor. I must read.
This book is a masterpiece and I think it's very important. This one is in great condition, no pages missing, the box is the tiniest bit warn on the corner but that's it. Awesome quality.
Very interesting way to show history..I wanted to get the set before some attempts to ban it ..
Great graphic novel. This would be good for young teens to read if they are not into regular books.
Had to see what all the hubbub was about.. Excellent graphic novel! Bought multiple to make sure I had enough for ALL of my grandchildren. Banning these books is an absolutely ridiculous idea.
This is an amazing book. I read it 20 years ago and never forgot it. I will cherish this story and the grandson that was so creative in telling it by graphic cartography.
Interesting look at the Holocaust, through a comic book format. Nothing funny about it. Nazis versus Jews.
