I did a fair bit of research on what watch/tracker was best for an 8 year old. This one seemed to be consistently on top of people’s lists. As this was a Christmas gift, we’re now one month into owning and my son couldn’t love it more. He said this is his favorite gift by far. The watch was ready to and easy to use straight out of the box. The app setup was easy and synching the watch to the app takes no time at all. He enjoys knowing the time, checking his steps and meeting his goals. I appreciate being able to see his sleep patterns and set chores and bedtimes for him.

I bought this for my 5yo daughter for Christmas and she absolutely LOVES it! She hasn’t taken it off since she got it! She is enjoying learning how to read the time and reaching daily steps goals. The battery in it lasts for 12 months so no need to worry about charging it regularly like other Garmin watches. We have synced it to include chores (eg. make bed, brush teeth, pick up toys etc) which she gets tokens for once she completes a task, once she reaches a certain amount of tokens (set by an adult) she gets a reward eg. Pocket money or buy something at the shops. I’ve never seen her more motivated to do her daily chores! 5 stars, I would highly recommend this watch.

Very useful watch for a nine year old, comfortable and easy to put on, has some great options for setting alarms for chores and rewards and also fitness goals. You can store emergency numbers and my daughter loves it when her rewards ping. Great for setting reminder sets like ‘don’t forget your school coat ‘It’s easy to set up and use with the app from your phone. The screen is slightly dull indoors but this doesn’t alter its enjoyment by our daughter. Would highly recommend for this age group cost and function great.

Great kids watch.Easy to use and durable.Battery lasts a year which is great and can be changed.Only downside is the screen isn’t very bright but more than useable for the kids.We brought these for an 8 and 5 year old.Fits well and both have small wrists. Also looked at an Apple Watch and FitBit as other options hustled on the Garmin and happy with the purchase. The chores reminder has been good to use
I love everything about this watch but the watch. The design is horrible. The Garmin is meant to be interchangeable with other bands. Cool, right? You’d think so but it’s not. Especially if your children are like mine & instead of unbuckling their watches they try to slip them over their hands causing the Garmin to pop out. Every. Single. Time. (Trust me, we have told them repeatedly that they cannot just “slip it off”. ) We have been lucky in the past and were able to find the Garmin or had honest people call when it was found on the playground but this last time we were not so lucky. Currently I have a $90 watchband so disappointing.Edited to add: If they corrected this design issue I would give this watch 5stars. For now I say don’t risk it! Save your money.
Bands are very overpriced for the quality received. Within a week of wearing, there was already a tear in the band. These are for kids and I would expect a certain level of durability. The tear does not affect the use, however a 7 year old is adamant it is ‘broken’ and cannot be worn. A waste of money for us personally. $4 bands from eBay lasted a lot longer. Shipping took a while also and when I requested tracking details, there was no response.
Both of my young kids love these watches. Encourages them to be active with family step challenges and the game on the app that rewards activity to move up levels and get new watch backgrounds to use. We also use the chore/reward function to promote and reward good behaviour and the alarm to help them remember things like which day to catch the school bus home. Really touch watch that takes a beating at the pool and beach all summer with no issues. Only thing i could think of that would be amazing is a 'find my watch' feature for if they lost it. There's is a screen that has the option to add a contact for emergency but a find my watch would be great. We love this watch.
I bought this watch from Target for my daughter’s 9th birthday. She fell in love with it from the moment she laid eyes on it. She was so excited to have a smartwatch of her own. She has been asking me for years if she could have my Fitbit when I am done with it.She loves the app and tracking how many steps she’s done per day, and beating her own best. She loves the motivational goal alerts and coins she earns for completing her chores. She loves exploring the app and changing the watch face and themes. She loves using the built-in timers for reading, practicing her music and brushing her teeth. She loves that it is waterproof and she can wear it washing her hands, taking a shower and going in the pool. We both love the size and the color (purple band). I love the ... I love the soft, comfy material, I love the way it looks on her, it’s not too big of a face or too bulky on her arm. Most of all I love that she loves it! This gift was a hit. Garmin did a great job with this product and the app. We are thoroughly satisfied.
My daughter is happy with it.We went with the black and plain option which suited her the most. The app isn’t bothered with at the moment but doesn’t mean we won’t in the future. My daughter is 9 and will be climbing a mountain in May so are using this to train for it.The timers could be better as it’s a bit basicWe have had other watches from Garmin when she was younger and both myself and my husband use Garmin for our fitness watches. We have tired others but nothing is better.I would recommend- I would also like to suggest a more mature small watch of those children who are in between ages - pre- teen
I bought this watch for my 7 year old daughter as a Christmas gift. She loves the watch’s app that provides awards for activity and doing chores. She’s becoming aware of her daily activity in a healthy way. I’m happy to see her finally doing her chores. My only complaint is how dark the screen is. I have to use a flashlight to view. My daughter agrees is the worst part of the watch. I would consider other options before buying this model. Garmin needs to figure out a way to make the display brighter.
