Unfortunately this game is a huge downgrade from the previous 3DS titles. There is very little content as far as events and festivals go. The game could have benefitted from using character portraits when talking to people. The dialogue is bland and lacking. Even after getting closer to NPCs they still don't say much. The farm chugs even with little decorations or makers (which are awful in themselves). One of my personal peeves is that, say, you lay down some pathways; well, walking on or being near them has the "put away" prompt right over your head everywhere you go and it just looks ugly and distracting and makes me not want to use them.As of writing this, an update has released that fixes some bugs and improves load times. There is another update scheduled to release later this spring that fixes more things, adds more dialogue, and allows you to craft more than one thing at a time with makers. Maybe wait for that update at least before purchasing. The really cool thing about this version is that it comes with a very cute cloth poster, and that definitely is a big plus if you're a fan of Story of Seasons.

I've been playing the Bokujō Monogatari series since it came to the West as Harvest Moon in 1997, and still have my SNES cartridge. This is a bit of a departure in that you don't need individual tools to care for animals anymore (finally!) and you need to use Makers to produce/refine your materials as opposed to just harvesting/chopping/pulling them. This becomes slightly cumbersome after awhile as you need fields of Makers to achieve your goals. There are elements borrowed from Animal Crossing, as well, such as starting your farm from scratch, while sleeping in a tent. All of that said, this is an excellent entry into the series. I've been playing since release day, fairly nonstop. The customisation of placing farm buildings precisely where you want them, and the gradual progression of unlocking more areas with newer materials upon your farm itself is rewarding. My only complaint is the maker system needs some redoing, which I suspect/hope they can tune up in future planned updates. Being able to make stacks in the makers, as well as in requesting identification of Treasure at the museum, would make the game ideal. The Buffalo plush and fabric wall hanging included with this are very good quality, definitely worth the extra $10 purchase price. I absolutely love that there is a physical booklet included. Too few games do that these days.(Please note that the Marvelous Harvest Moon games since Animal Parade have not ACTually been Bokujō Monogatari/"real" Harvest Moon titles. Don't let the more recent "Harvest Moon" games swear you off the series entirely.)TL;DR: IF you enjoy Animal Crossing, crafting games, or other Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons titles, you should definitely give this one a chance, too.

As a longtime fan of Harvest Moon (and then Story of Seasons), I was excited to play this game. There's no surprises here, if you're a fan of this type of game, you'll like this one. The gameplay is as expected, a tried-and-true, classic farming RPG. The art is cute, but simple, and the areas to explore are bright and eye-catching. The characters are adorable and unique, but I miss the portraits of each during conversations. There isn't as much expressiveness to them due to this, but they're still cute enough and charming with a bit of their own personality. There's a lot of character customization and you can woo whomever you'd like, none of it tied to a specific gender, which is a huge improvement over past games. The farming area is large and there's a lot of different areas to explore and a ton of different recipes and I loved seeing new shops open up in the town, there's always something to look forward to. The in game day is long and I never felt rushed to do all the things I wanted to do. Everything about this game is comforting and I really enjoyed it. There's a ton to do and you'll never be bored!

4.5 rounding up to a 5. Lowest I'd consider scoring it is a 4, but it's really cute, so I don't have the heart to do that. Very fun game. Beautiful environments and I like the characters. This edition came with a very nice quality and cute cloth poster, as well as a teeny tiny lil plushie that I really like. I only got it because they were out of the slightly cheaper standard edition of the game, but honestly I'm happy with how everything worked out and I like the little goodies it came with. If you like these sorts of games and want more of the same, then this is great for you.
I’ve been a fan of Harvest Moon since Animal Parade, so still getting to play the series through Story of Seasons has been nice. It’s been a fun little experience. I wouldn’t say there’s a whole lot of diversity in the map, but the characters have been fun to meet and get to know. You can customize your farm as well, although there’s a lot and it’s almost overwhelming. Overall it’s a good game for anyone who has ever played or likes Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing!
I found Story or Seasons after playing through the newest Harvest Moon title. From festivals and storyline to romance and cutscenes, everything that One World got wrong, this game got right. I especially love being able to level up specific skills as you do them (mining, communication, fishing, etc) to unlock boosts and receive rewards. There is enough to do in the game to keep you playing for a really long time, without it being too much of a grind. I love all of the characters, graphics, and scenery. You get more space on your farm then I’ll ever know what to do with, which is a great change for this type of game. My only complaint is how limited you are with decorating your house. While the feature is nice to have, it’s frustrating only having a limited number of titles to place items. I haven’t found a way to be able to rotate objects either making it more difficult to make your space look good. But other than that, I love everything about this game.
Gameplay Pros:-lots of quality of life improvements, ex. sprinklers and unlockable bonus farmland-a variety of animal breeds you can find wild seasonally plus lots of cute pets and mounts-progression feels fair and balanced-lots of crops, flowers, recipes, and clothes-cute new farm deco, ex. animal-shaped topiary-a variety of customization options for your character-the map tells you where NPCs areGameplay Cons:-NPCs look cute but are completely forgettable-town events feel generic and impersonal-dialogue is currently very bland, there’s an update in the works to improve it as of this writing-frame rates drop just from having seasonal clutter growing on the farm-too many makers required at present, there’s an update in the works to improve it as of ... MoreGameplay Pros:-lots of quality of life improvements, ex. sprinklers and unlockable bonus farmland-a variety of animal breeds you can find wild seasonally plus lots of cute pets and mounts-progression feels fair and balanced-lots of crops, flowers, recipes, and clothes-cute new farm deco, ex. animal-shaped topiary-a variety of customization options for your character-the map tells you where NPCs areGameplay Cons:-NPCs look cute but are completely forgettable-town events feel generic and impersonal-dialogue is currently very bland, there’s an update in the works to improve it as of this writing-frame rates drop just from having seasonal clutter growing on the farm-too many makers required at present, there’s an update in the works to improve it as of this writingAll in all, I thought I got my money’s worth out of the game and I’m happy to keep playing it. It could stand to be better optimized, but as it is now it’s still a fun game with enough in it to keep you coming back. The special edition extras: The fabric “poster” feels stiff and starchy but quite durable, I have no issues with tacking it to the wall and expect it to last. The plush buffalo is significantly softer than I expected, a cute palm-sized friend.
The game was really, really boring. It was an anime ripoff of Stardew Valley, and it was s...l...o...w...The process for changing tools was a pain, and there were not a lot of shortcut keys. The whole thing was just tiresome. I gave up after 15 minutes and went back to Stardew. To be honest, it IS great for people who can't handle the more compex games, but need a bigger challenge than Harvest Moon. My daughter loves it. We both got bored with Harvest Moon quickly. So I'll give it a solid 50%.
I have played a lot of simulation games such as Harvest moon and Rune Factory for years, so I was excited to get to play this game. I have almost completed an in game year of it, and so far it is pretty easy to play. As a 28 year old, I understand that this game is rated E for everyone, but gameplay wise compared to other Harvest moon games, this is pretty easy to complete. I am not playing on the easiest difficulty, but I still thought there would be more of a challenge. The NPCs and marriage candidates are bland when you usually talk to them, and the random scenes are decent, but nothing too deep. It's not a terrible game, because I do enjoy playing through the days and completing the quests and side missions. There are various little quirks in this version of sos that's bothersome. For one, the constant reminder of upcoming festivals from every single npc is super annoying this starts 3-4 days prior to the upcoming festival and will not stop until the festival day has come and passed. Two, the "unable to tell which field of crop you planted" is another, the previous sos on the 3ds had fixed this but it is now back, you will have to wait until the plant is harvested or sprouted. Third, you cannot tell "who" you are talking to until you speak to the npc, there are many npcs and you will either have to memorize their profile avatar or just talk to them. Fourth, time passes too fast in this game, you can't fix this unlike the other sos on the 3ds and Fifth the makers are a joke, you can't keep adding items into the same one maker unlike the previous sos on the 3ds, you have to craft so many of them and each one takes up 4 squares of space. Sixth cooking takes up time, on top of the fact that the in game clock moves pretty fast and let's not forget the loading time every single time you step into olive town. Also very limited amount of freedom when it comes down to plopping down furniture and what not of any crafted items. I wanted to place a table inside the house but I couldn't place them just anywhere even when there was clearly a huge space. Another downside is that the house customizations are also very limited. I don't know what happened with the devs for this SoS but it's not a step up but a step down, several even. Granted this is better than the harvest moon one world but still like I said many little quirks that should not be present after several of SoS has been released. Update: this game has been updated with a few fixes one being the loading times there is a difference and I can see that when my character enters into town. Also I believe there are future fixes down the road including the makers.
