I got my d41 in 2014. At first it sounded ok. I didn't think it was a particularly loud guitar. The factory setup was not good at all. I would recommend a professional Luther's setup to get the most out of any instrument. Each year it ages, it get better and better. Now it has a rich and even sound with a chime like upper register typical of 40 series martins. It has opened up very nicely and now is a loud and punchy beast. It also have great sustain with rich overtones. I have also found that I am running out of bridge saddle with the action set to 3/32" . My guitar will need a neck reset sooner than I would like. Quality and fit is a 9 out of 10. I would recommend this guitar to anyone that is looking for a great sounding BEAUTIFUL looking not overly ornate ... MoreI got my d41 in 2014. A down side is I am afraid to take it out of my home. It's not a beater. You won't regret spending the money.

I've been wanting a high end Martin acoustic for decades. I have recorded many folk artists and the best sound has always been from a Martin. I went to GC to try a D-41 because of the rave reviews, but they were out of stock. The really gracious guitar salesman tracked one down in New Jersey and they would send it to me. Without trying the guitar I said yes. It arrive earlier than promised and when I opened the case I just had to stare at it for five minutes because it was so beautiful. Then I played a few chords and heard a sound like I never heard before. Many more overtones than normal, a smooth round low end and long sustain. I wasn't expecting such a wide neck though. The next day I played the guitar for about two hours and felt that I was struggling with ... MoreI've been wanting a high end Martin acoustic for decades. The next day I played the guitar for about two hours and felt that I was struggling with holding down chords in the session. I was told the guitar got a set up before it was sent but this guitar was a struggle to play. I compared it to my old Takemine and the action was double the height, and grew higher towards the middle of the neck. I struggled with taking it to my guitar repair, who would have to file down both the nut and the bridge but I thought it would invalidate the return. Sadly, I took it back to GC and got a very friendly refund for it. I learned never to buy a guitar without trying it out in the store for at least half an hour, the way I always do. If this is how all D-41s are made I suggest that only very muscular guitarists get it.

The D41 is a great guitar and I had it at a good discount because I was followed by a great representative. Otherwise be careful for Sam Ash is now selling cracked guitars. I was offered a cracked HD28 and a friend got a cracked 0015M.

This Martin D-41, that Adam sent me, is a beautiful instrument. It is even better than the D-41 I bought in 2009, that had a 1 11/16" nut. This one Adam promised would have a 1 3/4" nut, which fits my hand very well. My nephew ended up with my first D-41 and he was ecstatic! My second Martin was a D-28 sunburst a truest magnificent guitar, it's only fault was- not D-41. But it's tone rivals a D-41. This new D-41 blew me away, a cannon, gorgeous sound, easy to play, even though it has medium strings and just a joy to look at. Thank you Adam from Sam Ash!
I had played this Martin D-41 some 25 years ago and was just amazed at the tonal quality and punch this artful guitar produced. Not to mention it was the most beautiful acoustic I'd ever seen. I have played several different brands and models since and nothing quite reached the level of that D-41. I longed for that guitar all those 25 years until last year. Went to my local Guitar Center and they were out of them. I ordered one and a week later it arrived. Took it out of the box and and a crowd of guitar techs gathered over her. Breathtaking look about this guitar. I was sent into a private room and played for 45 minutes just amazed at what she sounded like. The setup was very close to what I'd preferred and will never regret the expenditure for a long time dream ... MoreI had played this Martin D-41 some 25 years ago and was just amazed at the tonal quality and punch this artful guitar produced. One of the greatest guitars of all time. Almost every major recording artist that used an acoustic guitar played a Martin - from the 1940s to today - Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, CSNY, Eric Clapton to name just a few. This 50 year old beauty has been beautifully cared for and has tone and action that are incomparable. I have a fine collection of 6 relatively high end acoustic guitars and this is my favorite period. When a perfect note or chord is struck you can feel it in your bones. Martin D-41, D-42, and D-45 guitars exemplify the epitome of the guitar crafter's art.
Cant find a better alternative for a perfect stringed solution that is reliable and trustworthy to perfection when you know each and every chord will have the right intonation. The level of craftsmanship is incredibly simple yet unique in build quality, however still rings true in every single challenge I threw it's way. I have about 25 guitars, most investment and high end models. This is my new favorite guitar and I will preach the Martin message from early in my musical career as a clueless Nubie and developed a deep newfound respect for my favorite, gold star, de facto standard in terms of an acoustic tool to
I spent an entire year trying to find an acoustic that would last me the rest of my life and be the last one I would ever have to buy. This guitar caught my eye the first time I saw it but wasn't even close to the price range I was interested in. After playing tons of Martins and Taylors, I finally broke down and bought this one. Definitely has a big price tag, but it has an even bigger sound. This thing rings out like no other guitar I have ever played and the sustain is incredible. It's extremely comfortable to play and stays in tune for weeks. If you can afford it, you won't regret buying this one.
I already own a Martin OM 28 Marquis and a Martin D 18 Golden Era, so I guess the D 41 Special was just icing on the cake. The D 41 Special is, well, special...it has a Sitka spruce top, abalone inlay and forward shifted x bracing. It has a sound all its own with plenty of shimmer, yet balanced. It can be driven with a flat pick, just like my other Martins, with no decay. While the Adirondack-topped marquis and golden eras are direct, clear and woody, the D 41 Special sparkles and still drives clear notes and chords. Don't let anyone tell you abalone inlay 40 series Martin guitars are just the same as any other Martin guitar. They are unique and hold a special sound. The last comment I'll make is that the 1 and 11/16 nut works perfectly with finger picking and flat ... MoreI already own a Martin OM 28 Marquis and a Martin D 18 Golden Era, so I guess the D 41 Special was just icing on the cake. I'm used to playing a 1 and 3/4 nut with my OM 28 Marquis and D 18 Golden Era, but the D 41 Special works just as well with a slightly smaller nut. Interesting enough, the D41 Special is only 1/32 smaller when you measure the bass string to treble string width, end to end. I guess that's why I didn't notice a difference when finger picking. Hope this helps you with your next guitar purchase!
As a southpaw guitarist in a right-axed world, high-end guitars are slim pickings. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to assemble a pretty magnificent collection of desirable and iconic lefties: a Martin D-28, a Gibson J-45, a Gibson Custom Shop Hummungbird Birdseye in Vintage Cherry Sunburst (I believe it is the only model like it on earth), a Gibson Songwriter Delixe Studio Cutaway, a GuiId F-30, a Les Paul Custom that blows out windows, a Strat with Texas hot pickups, a very sweet sounding Taylor acoustic 12-string, and more. When I saw this 2004 D-41on EBay, I coughed out my Cheerios. I rolled the dice and bought it, and my life is complete. On YouTube, in my favorite local guitar shop, at gigs, and at concerts over the decades, I have seen and heard many D-41s, but never an "L. Unlike righties, we can't stroll into the guitar shop and ask to play a bunch of guitars. We are lucky to find one or two in stock. So we takes our chances. This D-41 L is my fourth daughter, my second dog. It can go from angelic to greasy blues and rock with ease and clarity. It handles aggressive struming and complex finger picking with equal tone and projection. It is the guitar that will be in my casket ... until they bury me, when I hope my 14-year-old daughter, who is also a southpaw player like me, takes it, coddles it, and thinks of me every time she tunes up and plays. The seller's presentation of the instrument was spot on, and I simply can't be more pleased. It rocks. By the way, my last name is Martin.
