This is one of the most versatile jackets I have. A fantastic soft shell jacket suitable on its own or as a functional midlayer, the gortex weave makes it more water resistant then normal soft shells whilst maintaining its breathability. I love it and you can feel the sturdiness and quality.

I've only had a few opportunities to try out this shell so far but I love it. I've become a big fan of Gore Tex Infinium and have several pieces now made with this fabric (this shell, tights, gloves and mittens). It is very light, durable, sheds light moisture very well and does a phenomenal job cutting out the wind. The jacket has plenty of huge pockets and the zippers on the jacket are all super smooth, open easily and stay closed when zipped up. Might be the best zippers on anything I have ever owned. If I had one "complaint" about the jacket it would be the 2 way main zipper. I found it clunky to unzip up the lower portion (i.e. from the waist up). I really don't need that feature and could do without it. I would say it probably runs slightly large, maybe not ... MoreI've only had a few opportunities to try out this shell so far but I love it. I would say it probably runs slightly large, maybe not enough to say it's too big, which was fine for me because I wanted to wear it over many layer combinations but even in just the shell I didn't find it baggy or bunching up or anything. But these are very minor details on an otherwise awesome jacket.

The Ultimate VII SO Softshell jacket is just what I've been looking for. A functional, hooded softshell, designed for use in the hills and mountains - and its not boring UK market Black. Being an outdoor enthusiast and instructor - I'm keen to present a professional image and also, if working solo, like to be seen. My normal go to colours being Red or Orange. I have a number of Mammut items and have always found them to be well made, functional and not fussy. This item will compliment my other garments and boots and is not the typical black or dark colours that so many British retailers seem to stock. A winner. First rate service from Mammut-UK for getting this out, well packaged and presented in very quick turn-around from order to receipt.

I looked for a universal softshel both for everyday use and my light sport activities (bike, hiking, etc). I spent so much time looking for a perfect one and finally found it. IMHO this one is the best in the market! I’ve already tested it and I need to admit that is worth it.
This is mostly from the perspective from someone who uses this jacket for hiking and traveling. Occasionally snowboarding. I'm not a climber, so this review is limited from a more technical standpoint.Excellent quality jacket that's functional, versatile, and comfortable to wear whether it's an extensive weekend of hiking or just a casual social function. The zipper ventilation underneath the armpits are a big plus for me as I am a person that tends to run hot - although you may have to deal with the minor annoyance of feeling the zipper underneath your arm depending on how far you have the ventilation open/closed. The material feels soft and comfortable on my skin relative to other jackets that I have that seem a little bit more rough or 'abrasive' like my ovik stencollar for example - although I feel that the ovik is intended to be more waterproof. My only issue so far has been the double zippers used to zip the jacket together, they take a little bit of getting used as you have to align just right for the zippers to engage and travel. If you're in a hurry, it can be a little inconvenient.I'm 5'6 / about 155-160 lbs with a size 32 waist and broad shoulders, I ended up buying a medium size which fits me well with a loose shirt underneath. The arm length of the jacket is just slightly long on me, but it's something I can work with. The green color looks great and looks pretty close to the way it appears on the pictures on the Mammut website. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the fit and versatility of this jacket. I was eyeing it for awhile and finally folded during this past labor day sale. Now it's pretty much my go-to jacket for hiking / traveling / casual outing.
The jacket fits nicely, sleeves are long enough even for people with slightly longer arms. Hood fits fine a climbing helmet (I have a mammut Wall Rider). Ventilation zips are easy to open but with short sleeve shirt I could sometimes feel that the zipper pulley was cold when it touched my skin (I felt it mostly in fully open position and it itsn't a big deal). I have noticed that the stretchy fabric that tightens the cuff around wrists is already getting some wear marks from the art grit we climbed so I wonder how long will it last.
Bought this to wear under my Shell jacket, it’s a lovely jacket although I found it a little too large for me.. wish I had ordered to medium for a slightly tighter fit. Will have to live with that now.Having said that tho it’s a quality jacket as you would expect from Mammut.
I ordered a large with the intent of using this is an outer shell when moving outside or riding my bike. It works well as an outer shell you can put a puffy or similar type fleece underneath. You can also use a silk layer under it. I love the versatility. It is very windproof, and designed for being active and managing your own heat. If you want it to be warm (temps in the 40F and below), use it as an outer layer with something under it.
Athletic fit, with long enough sleeves, this is excellent for arm movement. Hood fits great over touring ski helmet. Love the bottom zipper. Having two zippers makes it great in touring conditions when wind or snow is present. I can keep the top shut to keep the snow out and open the bottom to dump heat. I do wish the cuffs were adjustable. However, they hav a bit of stretch to cinch some gloves in, depending on size. Too big of gloves, no go. Too small, they'll slip right out. But, if you are wearing that light of gloves, does it matter if the cuff cinches, or is it warn enough anyway? The lenght of the sleeve helps here. So, even without a true cinch, the length prevents excessive air gap that would freeze your wrists. I'm 5'11' 175lbs male. Love the fit of the ... Large was too big for my taste since I like the athletic fit to avoid loose garments when touring or doing other forms of alpinism. This jacket breathed sufficiently, but I certainly still sweat in it ski touring uphill. And it works in light snow sufficiently, when cold enough. If it's wet snow, this will wet out. It's not a rain jacket, nor was it designed to be. Overall, great garment.
perfect and looks good and classy fabric! The only criticismmis that the brand name is too visible. I be prefer it very discrete. An older version had logo and name in black on black, which I prefer…
