I had wanted a Magimix for a long time and finally took the plunge.. With Autumn coming I wanted to quickly make soups ( I have found myself using leftover food more effectively )and cakes in particular. and I wanted a mixer that did loads of things, looked good and most importantly would last forever and this fitted the bill. I have now used it a few times and love using it. Simple to use -excellent handbook with instructions and recipes .It is heavy so wouldn't suit anyone who needed to get it in and out of a cupboard but sitting ready on a worktop is perfect. It doesn't shake or wobble and it has a very generous size bowl and many accessories .I suspect some people may want a longer cable but it's fine for us.

I had been looking for a good quality food processor and read loads of reviews, which always seemed to highlight a downside to many of the food processors available. The Magimix seemed robust, effective and versatile, the only negative appearing to be the washing up afterwards and the propensity of the machine to have spillages across the bowls.I can only say that the machine fully lived up to expectations. It has a really powerful motor which makes short work of any slicing, chopping or grating. The whisk works really well and, by planning ahead, so that several jobs can be carried out in succession, the washing up really isn't an issue. If necessary, I give the bowl a quick rinse round between jobs and, because you are only dealing with raw ingredients, I do not ... MoreI had been looking for a good quality food processor and read loads of reviews, which always seemed to highlight a downside to many of the food processors available. If necessary, I give the bowl a quick rinse round between jobs and, because you are only dealing with raw ingredients, I do not find it difficult to clean. The other key point to avoid spillages across the bowls is to avoid processing above the stated capacities. The machine is not cheap but I believe you get what you pay for and the long guarantee for the motor gives a lot of peace of mind. There are lots of recipes now which I look forward to preparing because I know they will be straight forward with this machine. Previously, I probably wouldn't have bothered, or had to face a load of tedious chopping or slicing.Any downsides? Well, it is quite heavy machine, which I don't personally find an issue but some might, particularly if you have to shift it from where it is stored to where you will use it. Also, it is another piece of equipment which takes up a fair bit of space in the kitchen. Given how much I use it, though, I wouldn't really see this is a problem. If you are really tight on space, then you just have to be sure that you only acquire equipment that you will use regularly. In my book, there is no doubt that this machine earns its storage space hands down over many other items of far less useful equipment.

I imagined keeping the blades hidden away but actually I keep them out next to the machine ready for action. I went for the cream coloured version to match other appliances in our kitchen. My main uses for the machine are making houmous, bread dough, grating and slicing and whizzing up onions or garlic and ginger for curries. It performs really well at these tasks. I haven't juiced anything or whipped egg whites but this is only week 1.Bread dough is the most challenging task. As the dough ball forms I find myself hanging onto the machine to prevent it from potential self destruction. This is no fault of the machine, just the nature of using a high speed machine to knead bread. The results are actually very good. Pastry making is extremely good.I find the nested midi and mini bowls progressively less useful compared to the main bowl. The mini blade cannot compete with the full size one even when processing small quantities. If you introduce liquid to the mini bowl it will leak out a little bit into the main bowl. I would say if you need a smaller processor then buy a smaller processor. For me the large bowl will do any job better and produce less washing up. For example two lonely garlic cloves can be finely chopped successfully with the massive blade in the main bowl. The motor is the star of the show. It is heavy, spins extremely quickly and doesn't seem to lack torque at all. I actually wonder if maybe they could beef up the lightweight plastic housing for the motor as I suspect that would be the point of failure if subjected to any rough treatment (for example in transit by a delivery man). The controls are simple. I feel the word AUTO is doing some heavy lifting in the marketing department. ON or SPIN LIKE CRAZY would also be fine.Other considerations are going to be the same as with any similar device. Of course cleaning up the various parts is a fact of life. I tend to wash up by hand immediately after use. I don't trust the dishwasher to care for the bowls and accessories the way I do. Dishwashers aren't great with plastics anyway. If I need a few shavings of cheese on my pasta I will use an old fashioned grater, but if I want to grate an entire block of parmesan in under 3 seconds then the Magimix is the tool. It is actually so hilariously fast at grating or slicing that we all gather to watch.Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Does it justify the cost? Is it really the best food processor on the market? Hmm, perhaps. It is very good, but also quite an extravagance. I think when we next have a big family BBQ and I proudly introduce 3 kilos of delicious homemade coleslaw the argument may be settled.

Faulty switch on brand new 5200XL
17 August 2020

I have used Magimix FPs for over 35 years but have encountered problems with the on/off bowl securing function with the last two machines, the last one purchased on 3 July 2020. I was given a tip to re-set the safety catch which worked for a while, but I decided to replace the processor with the same model and was gutted when exactly the same problem occurred - you can't switch it on. I am disappointed, frustrated and angry. There are so many excellent features and attachments, the motor is so strong and reliable, so why spoil it all with an inferior on/off switch mechanism? I have really enjoyed using all the elements of this machine, and will be sorry to lose it, but I have no confidence in the Magimix brand any more. I have never encountered problems like this with other machines, just the two 5200XLs I have owned. I think there might be a design flaw in this model. I will be looking for another brand of food processor.

Just what I need, excellent product

I enjoy using this processor it's very much better than the accessories on my old food mixer. It's heavy and stable in use. Easy to use and clean. Makes very light work slicing veggies. Easy to clean. Powerful motor feels very effective.I choose to keep mine in a deep top drawer, but it's heavy so there will come a time when it will need to live on the worktop because I will find it difficult to lift. Not really a problem.I'm having fun using it.

I have coveted a Magimix for years. Finally bought one as a retirement gift to myself. Really impressed so far. Slightly fiddly to clean, but worth it. Speedy chopping - great for making garlic, onion and ginger paste for curries. Makes a fantastic all in one cake- good rise. Need to use it kore to really learn the functions, but impressed so far.

Generally speaking, Im quite happy with this machine, though I dont know whether its just because I always wanted a food processor, and whether I wouldnt be as happy or happier with a competing product possibly at fraction of the price.I chose Magimix as it seemed to be a well established name, and it offered a great selection of peripheral accessories sadly quite pricey, but they can be easily picked up for next to nothing on eBay. Its definitely powerful and helps blast through a lot of kitchen chores. However theres a couple of striking design choices that make me wish Id gone for alternative processors the lid design seems to make washing up longer than it could be the lid is very big and tall and has lots of crevices and angles, and they all get dirty fast, as ... MoreGenerally speaking, Im quite happy with this machine, though I dont know whether its just because I always wanted a food processor, and whether I wouldnt be as happy or happier with a competing product possibly at fraction of the price.I chose Magimix as it seemed to be a well established name, and it offered a great selection of peripheral accessories sadly quite pricey, but they can be easily picked up for next to nothing on eBay. Its definitely powerful and helps blast through a lot of kitchen chores. However theres a couple of striking design choices that make me wish Id gone for alternative processors the lid design seems to make washing up longer than it could be the lid is very big and tall and has lots of crevices and angles, and they all get dirty fast, as well as 3 moving parts that are meant to make processing of big chunks easier, but really just add to the cleaning effort the jug is the biggest mystery to me its meant to replace a blender jug, and yet it makes me think it was designed by someone who never cooked in their life 1. Its got no volumeunit marking to it, not even simplest 100ml500ml1000ml. 2. Theres no spout to it, making pouring liquids an adventure every time. 3. Its huge but you can only fill 23 of it, and even that only when juicing, not when blending When slicinggrating using discs, surprisingly large chunks the ends of fruitveggies are left unprocessed. Not a big issue with say a cucumber, I can just eat it, but a bit worse when grinding 1012 potatoes. Im stuck with 12 leftovers I need to pick out from the jug and then try grind againRegarding accessories theres no coffeeherb mill, shame the citrus juicer is ok but it works at an excessive speed, where holding the fruit is a challenge and its not easy to get all the juice out theres a centrifugal juicing attachment big YAY but its not very efficient. Compared to my very basic Philps juicer it yields 15 less I ran very accurate tests and also I need to empty the dry pulp container halfway through making 23 glasses of juiceIts not a bad product, I love having it at home, making pesto, chopping onion, getting cheese, slicing everything in seconds ...and maybe all processors struggle with somemost of the above issues its just that with that price tag, you really cant help but feel a bit disappointed.

Product spoilt by having too short a lead.

After many years of good use from my 4100 magimix, I could no longer get spare parts for it, even though the engine was still working well.I replaced it recently with a 5200XL.My goodness it's cumbersome compared to the older model. The lid seems so complicated that food flies into all the crevices and takes a lot of cleaning. It's very quiet but I am constantly cross that where as the old machine fitted into my top drawer, nicely out of sight, and from which I could plug it in and use it, this ones lead is too short to do so, requiring me to lift it out of the drawer.Surely Magimix can afford to give us another 4 inches of flex?I expect I'll get used to it as its early days, but I'm finding it very heavy to manoeuvre..

Really useful product

I have had a Magimix in UK since 1983 which works perfectly well but this model is light years ahead of it. Essential to use the bleder whisk when blending soup otherwise you will find the soup all over the workbench and floor! Grating cheese is a snap but if you want a fine crumb parmesan push cheese down very gently and cold from fridge. A Gruyére/emmental also grates cleaner if cold. The tidy box for accessories is brilliant for safety, convenience and storage. Slicing potatoes for coating in oil and roasting gives a wonderful crispy result. The plastic bowls are so easy to wash and clean and I love the mini bowl for chopping several garlic cloves at a time. I would never have bought another Magimix had I not needed one where we are marooned but thrilled I took a ... MoreI have had a Magimix in UK since 1983 which works perfectly well but this model is light years ahead of it. Reliable, easy to use

Perfect, Magimix has always been totally reliable, lasting years. Also I'm lazy and my magimix does everything I need and a lot more I didn't think about! I have had a magimix for over 50 years, I think that is the best reference for this machine. I have had 3 machines in that time, only changing them for bigger models. The only thing I don't particularly like is washing them up, but it's part of the deal! I bless this machine every day!
