An amazing keyboard... brought down by Logi Bolt

One other annoyance is that I've used Logitech for the convenience of using devices on more than one computer and that requires multiple dongles, which I haven't found in Mexico for less than $60 USD.One other thing is that I own an MX Master 3, which means I must keep using the Unifying Receiver. Between that and the Bolt, it's taking up two of my USB ports. And neither play nicely with USB hubs, which is really annoying. I'm definitely not upgrading to the MX Master 3S anytime soon as I just switched a few months ago, and my experience with the Bolt is pushing it even further away (if at all). Also, I'd really like to customize my keyboard and I'm not able to since the Logitech Options+ installation crashes every time I attempt it. I've restarted my computer, downloaded several times, wiped temp files, checked the Windows event log, to no avail. There's just no lOverall, even though the keyboard itself is great, the software and connectivity that goes with it just sucks. I know the Logi Bolt was introduced to provide a secure environment, but it came at a great cost. One that I'm not sure I'm willing to pay up and might end up going back to my K780.

Decent, not ready for prime time, overpriced, glitches

The backlighting on this keyboard seems like it was an afterthought by the design team and it just falls far short on several different levels of implementation.Things to improve...and hey, is that possible in a firmware update or via the Options+ software?1) Timeout. It's erratic as all get out. 5 seconds, which is supposed to be its norm, is way too short. Double that, or even better, allow that to be user-chosen in the software. Many times it will just randomly stay on for a good 10 or 12 seconds, sometimes it dims out instantly only to ramp up again for a few seconds.2) Proximity sensor. It's wonky. I can't actually tell where it senses but its reaction is frequently sluggish, sometimes taking a couple full seconds, sometimes I need to wave around the keyboard for it to register, and sometimes it actually doesn't work at all and I have to press a key. This doesn't seem to change based on ambient lighting levels or shadowing.3) Light level. It constantly resets itself to a low level and I have to press-press-press-press-press the function key to bump it up to max again. Hey...why do that!? Let me have the lighting I desire and hold the setting please.4) Key mapping. Just make every key mappable for backlighting. It would be wonderful if, like some gaming boards, I could just pick 5 keys or whatever and have those constantly lit up. I use this board for browsing and productivity but those "gaming" features would actually make it more productive and enjoyable. Right now the backlighting feels very lackluster and almost more hassle than it's worth.5) Pass-through. I can't believe this wasn't included, at this price point. Why not give people the option to run by cable if they wish, or if they need to, or perhaps when the battery finally wears out the keyboard could be used that way and not end up in the landfill so quickly.6) Sleep. Thus far I can't tell if this may be a Windows issue or if it's the keyboard, but quite often I can't seem to wake it up quickly. Similar to the sometimes unresponsive backlighting in that it's just gone to Sleep for real and needs a good shaking to get out of bed.7) I knew the switches were soldered, and that's fine, but it was disappointing to learn that some of the caps are non-standard. Selection of low profile caps is limited anyway, but it would be nice to have replacements for all the keys. Maybe a user wants to just customize color and whatnot, but for me I just can't stand the Mac overlays and when hunting for them in the dark (lit) my eyes invariable see the Mac before the Windows symbols...would like the option to just make those Windows-only. Perhaps Logitech could support a premium product like this with "parts" that will wear out, such as keycaps, and give options that make a $170 keyboard feel like it's worth that much.I got to try all three switches and ended up ordering the linear. The clicky is nice, tactile just felt pretty mushy to me and the noise was about as loud as the clicky minus the sharp tone of the click. The actuation force on the linear is pretty light and there is zero "bump" of course, so people coming from membrane keyboards may have a big adjustment to make (but no other mechanical switch will feel quite the same, either). All in all, it works, and the feel is generally "premium"...just far from a premium product due to various glitches and shortcomings. I do like this better than the MX Keys and anything else Logi has to date, but I may sell it. If a firmware/software update can fix some of this then I'd happily keep it but I don't know how possible that is and sure won't wait forever for that to happen. Had I bought this on Amazon I might have returned it immediately but it's more of a hassle/cost to return directly to Logi.

I want to change the key cap of the window key and the alt keys so they only show Windows options and not Mac options, but Logitech offers no keycaps replacements as far as I know. I would have liked the travel distance to be longer since I tend to accidentally press adjacent keys constantly, which causes me to make mistakes while typing. My old keyboard had a context menu key (the menu that pops up when right-clicking) to the right side of the space bar, but in this new keyboard, it was replaced with a function (fn) keyboard. This context menu key was moved to above the * on the Numpad side, and it is shared between a search option. So, the primary mode of this key is the search option, and the context menu is a secondary option, which needs the fn to be pressed first (fn + context menu key). The problem is that even if I lock the fn function (fn + esc) to keep the 2nd option on, I still have to do "fn + context menu key."

Interoperability with mouse could be improved
23 October 2022

Build quality was great and the feel of the keyboard was very good. However the interoperability between the keyboard and the mouse left a lot to be desired. There are two options for switching between multiple paired devices: the Logi software and the selector on the BOTTOM of the mouse( as in you need to physically lift up the mouse and turn it upside down to select the device). The Logi software did not work for me due to firewall restrictions (yes it requires Wi-Fi) and it was far too cumbersome to lift up the mouse, select a paired device and put it down again. Seems to me the mouse should follow the keyboard, not the other way around. Why on earth is there no way to switch devices via a keyboard shortcut?! Switching devices was completely unusable for me. If you’re only working on one device then it may be fine. But the main use case I needed was seamless device switching. At this price point the interoperability should not be so restricted. All I would need is a way for the mouse to follow the keyboard and a way to select the paired device via the keyboard and this would be a 5 -star review. Actually, if I could map the device selection to another mouse button it would be an improvement. As long as I don’t need to interrupt my workflow to physically take the mouse OFF THE DESK TO SELECT THE DEVICE. May work for some, not for me.

MX Mechanical Mini: OMG ponies, it's _perfect_
12 September 2022

So this follows a MX Keys purchase, where the KB ultimately suffered some kind of internal failure due to liquid intrusion that damages the Easy-Switch hotkeys, rendering it effectively useless. So, I needed another KB, and wanted either a TKL or smaller. I liked the form factor of the MX Keys Mini, but hated the layout of the arrow keys, as I much prefer an inverted-T. I lusted after the 915TKL, but I had three machines, would have to buy at least one more receiver, and didn't need RGB (or low-latency, for that matter I'd just use a wire), so the $225+ price was just beyond what I'd stand. This left me with the uncomfortable position of finding something mechanical, low-profile, with backlighting. On Amazon (blech). Every time I'd find a suitable equivalent, there was always something horrible, like switching was slow, or the battery dies early, or the keyswitches fail with no way to replace. So I was stuck.Until now. The MX Mechanical Mini with blue switches is a dead-ringer in feel to an ancient (it had an AT connector!) keyboard that was mechanically identical in feel and sound, and was my absolute favorite of all the ones I've owned. Easy-switch is _vastly_ improved over the previous versions, performance is spectacular, battery life is yet to be truly tested, but I've been using it for about two weeks with the backlight set to level 2, and I'm currently sitting at 60%. Your mileage may vary. I love it.

Meh at best

I really wanted this keyboard to be the best one I ever owned, particularly taking into account that I chose the Mechanical Tactile Quiet option.Well, it's neither tactile nor quiet. It's very clanky, the keys have very long travel, which makes the keyboard feel slow, because each click requires a long (distance-wise) press. I owned another Logitech keyboard K800 and it was much much better overall for me for about half the price. K800 was truly tactile and extremely quiet, but I had to replace it because some keys popped off after using it for a few months. I tried to reach Logitech support to get a replacement for the key that popped since the keyboard was still under warranty but no loner returnable, but got crickets and had to get a new keyboard eventually ... MoreI really wanted this keyboard to be the best one I ever owned, particularly taking into account that I chose the Mechanical Tactile Quiet option.Well, it's neither tactile nor quiet. K800 was truly tactile and extremely quiet, but I had to replace it because some keys popped off after using it for a few months. I tried to reach Logitech support to get a replacement for the key that popped since the keyboard was still under warranty but no loner returnable, but got crickets and had to get a new keyboard eventually after getting tired of looking at dust collecting in the glaring white openings where keys were missing.I also ran into an issue where when I was using their top of the line Bolt USB receiver that shipped with the keyboard. Took me some time to figure it out, but eventually I concluded that the receive driver started generating sticky key effect, which was particularly annoying when it impacted the Backspace key, so had to reconfigure the keyboard to connect via Bluetooth. So a very nice piece of hardware from design perspective, but disappointing from usability perspective and for $170 I personally consider this one of the worst purchases I made in peripherals and any other computer related equipment.

So close to hitting the mark
10 March 2023

When I first got this keyboard I was extremely impressed by the experience. However, once the novelty wore off some niggles started to show. The keycaps were quite difficult type on and being soft touch plastic I could see them wearing down fairly quickly. The adjustable kickstands were a nice addition but the angle wasn't quite enough to be comfortable and the typing experience as a whole was just a little bit off. But luckily the stems are standard cherry mx so I was able to put keycaps from an old board on which greatly improved my accuracy. More problems arose from this unfortunately as the caps would bottom out quite harshly which produced an off-putting clack and felt quite harsh on the fingers. This was overcome by some more mods. More problems arose from this unfortunately as the caps would bottom out quite harshly which produced an off-putting clack and felt quite harsh on the fingers. This was overcome by some more mods. I disassembled the board (once I worked out how it was rather easy) and filled all the blank spaces with silicone. I then placed a small bead of silicone where the metal plate makes contact with the plastic case to act as a sort of gasket. I also lubed the stabilisers a bit better than what came from factory and sanded down the bigger keycaps (enter, e.t.c) and I have been more than satisfied with it ever since. The logi+ software is great and when paired with the mx mouse makes multitasking between my uni laptop and main computer a breeze. Although missing the customisation found in something like razer synapse, it is far more user friendly. All in all, it is a good board for business purposes and with a little bit of work put in, an outstanding board for all uses

What's an amazing keyboard, this is how a low profile keyboard should be built.

I am very skeptical of low profile keyboard in general, I have tried only couple of brands, like Keychron K1 and Logitech G915 KTL so I can't sure if the whole low profile keyboard market is that bad. The Keychron K1 look attractive, but for sure it can not compare with the quality and design concept from Logitech where the G915 KTL looks stunning in every way, but when it comes to typing experience, both the Keychron K1 and the Logitech G915 feel terrible. Here is they they are bad, they both have the similar problem, the low profile key and the key cap are so loose if you put a finger on a key, don't press down but move your finger tip around, the key is basically follow you finger tip, this is where the problem is, when type ping you need to feel a stable key and ... MoreI am very skeptical of low profile keyboard in general, I have tried only couple of brands, like Keychron K1 and Logitech G915 KTL so I can't sure if the whole low profile keyboard market is that bad. That is the enough about the old stuffs!Let now talk about the new low profile MS mechanical keyboard, I bought the Mini version with clicky switches (I have alway been loving the clicky switches). and they came with different switch now where I can feel that they are move stable, with a little more down ward travel compare to the G915.right the way out of the box they the typing feels great, switches are more tidily build and the keycap's insert leg is like the Cherry MX style switch so they are much less wiggle around. This is the key to the overall feel and confident when typing and this is why this keyboard is a lot more satisfying compare to the G915. There are so many review nuts on you tube are talking to much about stuffs like sound test and so much un important feature about the keyboard. For me I just want to focus on satisfaction and how confident I feel when typing, because I what you do, you need the keyboard so you can type text all day. Not listing to sound or this and that. One other important aspect about the keyboard is the layout position of every key, a go layout contribute a lot to how quick can learn about keyboard and productive when you work. For that, I thinks this both the full size and the mini are very well design and I have tom complaint what so every about the layout. One addition sell point about this keyboard is it ability to automatically select Mac or Windows keycap which I wanted for a long time but not many company about make the Mac Ready keyboard like Logitech. I think they finally get it. That is why I am going to keep this MX Mechanical Mini as my main daily keyboard. I wish if Logitech will put the say switch and keycap on the G915, that will be even better keyboard in every way, I love the G915 KTL layout, unfortunately Logitech put the bad switch on the current G915, that make it a nice looking keyboard but such when typing. I they upgrade the switch to something like this MX mini, I will buy it in a hearth right the way.One this to improve on is that I think the switch can be a little more stable, a little less wiggle will be even better. like the gaming keyboard Pro X keyboard that I have been using as my daily coding keyboard, the feel is amazing, I can type fast and so confident with PRO X KTL gaming keyboard. Thanks Logitech for this MX mechanical keyboard, and please make the G915 KTL better with the new switch and keycap design.Best,TN

ticks all the boxes but there are some bugs
31 July 2022

I have been hesitant to get a mech keyboard, but this one finally ticked all the boxes (low pro, 100% with f16-19, good driver support, instant connectivity, full Mac support, connection for up to 3 devices, programmable Mac shortcuts, doesn't look like a teenage gamers keyboard). After a decade plus of strictly using apple magic keyboards I decided I just wanted something different. After an adjustment period I love it. I do think the caps feel a little 'meh' they are concave from left to right and wish they were more dished out like the regular MX keys. They also do not feel that great for the price point. I switched some of mine out (not all keys will be covered, and they are not shine through) with the Nuphy air75 PBT caps and man they make the keyboard feel, ... MoreI have been hesitant to get a mech keyboard, but this one finally ticked all the boxes (low pro, 100% with f16-19, good driver support, instant connectivity, full Mac support, connection for up to 3 devices, programmable Mac shortcuts, doesn't look like a teenage gamers keyboard). I do think the caps feel a little 'meh' they are concave from left to right and wish they were more dished out like the regular MX keys. They also do not feel that great for the price point. I switched some of mine out (not all keys will be covered, and they are not shine through) with the Nuphy air75 PBT caps and man they make the keyboard feel, look, and sound a million times better. I do like the preprogrammed fn keys for dictation, emojis, mute, and screenshot- they really hit the nail on the wfh head there. I do think they should include separate Mac or windows specific keys on top of the combination marked keys that come with it, especially at this price point. And as an upgrade different productivity labeled caps for video/photo/design/excel etc...The problems I have: the receiver was my preferred way over bluetooth but doesn't play well with Mac fn's (media keys have issues with some music players, screen brightness, mission control related fn keys don't work). On BT everything mostly works. The other thing that drives me crazy is it falls asleep too fast. I use a Wacom tablet so a lot of the times after a brief period of not touching the a key (~1-5 minutes) the keyboard will sleep and when I go to hit a key, usually a programmed fn key, the keyboard will take a moment to wake up, blink and connect. Then the default fn key setting will register instead- which in my case is lock machine. This really messes with my productivity. It even happens sometimes when I have my hand resting on the keyboard. I thought the proximity sensor would know I'm there and keep it on. The battery percentage is wrong as well pretty much always says 100% since I've had it, but if I plug it in it'll tell me the real percentage. Though battery life is amazing, especially since I keep the backlighting off.
