I was hesitant to invest in yet another water purifier. I used Brita over twenty five years ago and it was sufficient then, but I didn’t want to return to using their product. So the task of researching another seemed daunting.I checked with wirecutter I believe, and just started eliminating from their list. It was pretty quick actually, like maybe 20 minutes to set my sights on Lifestraw. The membrane filter didn’t work out of the box so my excitement was delayed by about a week or so. I emailed the company after boxing everything up to ship back only for them to ask for the serial number and photo of the membrane filter. I was ultimately happy I didn’t need to ship anything. It’s manageable and usually use two hands as I keep it filled near to the top.

We bought our LifeStraw Home 10-cup pitcher and a set of replacement filters about a year ago. The filters seem to work very well. Our water doesn't smell like mildew anymore (old pipes), and the filter processes water quicker than anything I've used in the past. However, I have two complaints. One, the filters are extremely difficult to change. They are held in place with friction (rather than screwing in place) and there are no grip points. We've had to resort to pliers to remove the old filter. If you have any sort of mobility issues - arthritis, hand injury, amputation - you're out of luck. Two, the handle is not very well balanced on the pitcher. If you are pouring from a fuller pitcher, the weight of the water pulls heavily to the base of the pitcher (away ... MoreWe bought our LifeStraw Home 10-cup pitcher and a set of replacement filters about a year ago. I've had to use my other arm to support the pitcher while pouring. It's a really big pitcher so the small version is probably better for this, but again it's something to be cautious of if you have any mobility issues in your hands or wrists.

I got this pitcher originally back in the fall. I love it! I can truly taste a difference in my water & this pitcher holds a significant amount. My only quarrel is I’ve had to request two replacements since my first one arrived due to damage, and it’s been a breeze. I am so happy Lifestraw has prompt, friendly and easy to communicate with customer service. Unfortunately my previous 2 pitchers got cracks on the base causing them to slowly leak. I will say, this pitcher is big. I understand how myself or one of my family members knocked it the wrong way when putting it in the fridge or sink to fill it, but it shouldn’t crack that easily. I’m thankful for the replacements and ease of requesting them (no hassle), but something tells me the material is not super high ... MoreI got this pitcher originally back in the fall. I love it! I can put that aside since they’ve helped resolve the issue twice, and I do love the product and what it does for my water. Thank you Lifestraw!
I can feel the smoothness of the filtered water and I LOVE knowing how clean it is, but man, it's wildly impractical and they need a better overall design for home use that is still glass(... even though the filter is plastic, so I don't know how much plastic "comes back in to the water). 1.) It takes so long to filter a 2.) very small amount of water at each filling. 3.) It's large in order to accommodate holding an acceptable amount of water and 3.) there's no "back flow protection" for the water that's still being filtered in the middle when you're pouring it, which means UNfiltered water that's still in the center filter can go into your glass. If you care to continue: It takes ~25 minutes or so for it to fully filter through, and let's not forget how water ... MoreI can feel the smoothness of the filtered water and I LOVE knowing how clean it is, but man, it's wildly impractical and they need a better overall design for home use that is still glass(... even though the filter is plastic, so I don't know how much plastic "comes back in to the water). 1.) If you care to continue: It takes ~25 minutes or so for it to fully filter through, and let's not forget how water equalizes and such, so after a while there's still UNfiltered water in the filter no matter what, and if you let the filtered water get so high while still having a certain amount of water in the filter, you're going to get UNfiltered water in your water when you pour from the pitcher. Due to all of these things, I kept the pitcher on the counter and kept my clean-water levels fairly low to avoid the UNfiltered water mucking things up; I'd pour the clean water into a separate, fully-glass container, which I kept in the fridge. But I found a fruit fly and also a film on my filtered water in the pitcher today, (and I am pouring one into the other ~3 times daily, so this is weird) so (after cleaning it) I'm putting it straight into the fridge and seeing how annoying it is to use that way. The fruit fly was a fluke, but a possibility, I now know and I'm hoping the film was a one-time fluke, too -- maybe someone stirred up dust nearby; I don't think the film was LifeStraw's doing... unless it happens again whilst in the fridge.
This water pitcher is a total game changer for home filtration! Our family lives in an area of Arkansas that has poor water quality so we always use a water filter for our drinking water. So many other pitcher styles I’ve tried were either plastic, or cumbersome and hard to fill, or left a fishy taste to the filtered water. With LifeStraw’s pitcher I don’t have any of those problems. The vessel itself is sleek and modern looking and made of glass, the water tastes better than any I’ve had since I lived in Vermont—crisp, clean and pure. What really sold me on this pitcher though is how you fill it. Every pitcher I’ve tried has those horrible lids that you can’t open when your hands are wet, LifeStraw’s filling mechanism is so innovative and different. Every pitcher I’ve tried has those horrible lids that you can’t open when your hands are wet, LifeStraw’s filling mechanism is so innovative and different. You just put the lid under running water from your faucet, and it flips to let the water in from the pressure—no messing with lids! As someone with joint problems in my hands, I almost cried happy tears at how easy it was. Add all this to their mission to donate clean water with every purchase, and you’ve got a customer for life. I’ll never use another pitcher for as long as they make filter refills!
It's well built if heavy, but the way the pour spot is designed you have to beware not to get tap water/unfiltered water in the pitcher while you're filling it through the open spout. There's no hood or function to keep water out of the filtered compartment when filling, which completely defeats the purpose. It also allows small bugs in, which is unfortunate as it takes away from the ability to leave it outside on our patio table with company. Looking forward to an update in design. It would be five star if that design could include a way to pour water while it is actively filtering. Aside from that, when used with care it filters amazingly and looks nice in the counter. It's a two hand weight for most- heavy glass. I’ve been buying for myself and my family and telling my friends about lifestraw for a few years now, not just for the mission but also the actual filter product which is clearly superior to other filters. We have bought 2 glass and multiple plastic. I avoid buying plastic but both glass pitchers broke fairly quickly in the kitchen. However in the past our plastic pitchers lasted a few years and we replaced because we couldn’t clean them that well after a few years. So now we have two plastic in our kitchen - one we bought last year on Black Friday and another we bought more recently. Both pitchers are leaking. And not a small leak - we need to keep them in the sink it’s so much water. Before setting up the filter pitcher, I read all the instructions FIVE times and watched a video about the process. I made sure each part was clearly identified and the sequence was clear. As a former science teacher, I approach instructions like this! After prepping the pitcher, as shown in a video, I ran water into it and waited. I’ve used pitchers from other brands and the times for filtering are similar among them.As I watched and waited, and waited, and waited…only single drops appeared. I reread directions and rewatched the video and rechecked the assembly. At this time, I attempted to reach customer support for assistance.Despite the standard “5 to 7 business days” suggested for a response, NO RESPONSE EVER CAME. I continued to send emails to “Customer Happiness” and no replies ever arrived. The 45-day trial period came and went with NO COMMUNICATION from Lifestraw or the “support” option.I was and still am frustrated, upset, and now feeling cheated. I sent the pitcher and replacement filter, plus copies of all my emails and photos and videos, back to Lifestraw. Postage was $20. This is unacceptable.I expect a full refund for the pitcher and replacement filter. The postage I will write off as a bitter “lesson learned”.
I live in a small village where the water is so bad. I've invested in many other water filtration pitchers over the years, always trying to find the one that filters the most and makes the water taste good. Well, look no further! I've read many good things about LifeStraw, but like others that claim to filter out so much, LifeStraw is true to their claim. My husband and I have been absolutely blown away at the taste. He is 81, and for the first week or more thanked my every day for getting this, saying it's the best water he can ever remember drinking! I even purchased the one of the LifeStraw Go Series bottles for work, (my office is in same village), and it is incredible. If you have been thinking about this, wait no longer - I promise you will not be sorry and will enjoy the best tasting water and have peace of mind knowing you are drinking probably the cleanest water available.
