A Truly Stunning OLED TV

I really like the LG G2, compared to my LG NANO86 the difference in clarity the inky blacks especially after tweaking the settings look absolutely amazing in HDR, even more so in Dolby Vision and its recent Precision Detail update. Plenty of guides online/YouTube. Use them as a base then tweak to your preferred setup. Anyway, yeah, I’ve been pretty impressed overall with only one minor gripe that I’m hoping will be addressed in a firmware update, so might be irrelevant by the time you’ve read this. Anyway, yeah, I’ve been pretty impressed overall with only one minor gripe that I’m hoping will be addressed in a firmware update, so might be irrelevant by the time you’ve read this. Which I’ll get out of the way now… The ‘Just Scan’ option being set to ‘AUTO’ and greyed out instead of ‘ON’ on PS5/Xbox Series X meaning some games, at least on PS5 are cropped. If it was set to ‘ON’ that would prevent that from happening. This doesn’t seem to affect too many games though, thankfully. There were other gripes/issues, but they were addressed after updating to the latest firmware. I had to download it to my PC from the LG website, as the TV only updated to a firmware from back in July. With that out the way, the G2 is a great looking TV with it’s thin profile and silver edge bezels giving it a premium look that will look great in most rooms regardless of how it’s displayed, it goes extremely well with the style of my living room. It’s designed to be wall mounted with its own wall mount (an optional stand can be bought separately or 3rd party VESA stand/feet), but I’ve opted to use a floor stand using VESA holes, along with attaching the LG Sound Bar G1 (that I got at the same time) that matches the thin profile of the TV and that supports Dolby Atmos for the added experience of great immersive sound to go with the beautiful looking picture (looking forward to receiving my rear speakers that I have on back order to complete the surround sound experience). I’d recommend streaming services that offer Dolby Vision/Atmos to get the most out of the TV. Again, once tweaked the TV picture with the clarity, inky blacks a brightness I’ve never personally seen on an OLED before, that’s helped by the new Evo panel and heat sink is truly a feast for the eyes, which I hope my review along with my pictures can go some way in helping you make a decision. My pictures would have included more if I could) are from Thor Love & Thunder in Dolby Vision (Disney+) Copshop in HDR (Amazon Prime) and Deathloop in HDR on the Xbox Series X. Hopefully these will help give you an idea of how good it can look, but bare in mind that it will look even better in person and require tweaking of several settings. Lastly make sure your TV is registered with LG to get the 5 year limited panel warranty for extra peace of mind in owning an OLED.

Having upgraded to the 55" LG G2, from a 10 year old 47" LG LCD, I can confidently say that this latest technology is worlds apart from my old unit. The G2 is lighter but not much larger overall then my previous unit, which is amazing considering the increase screen real estate on the G2. The OLED pixels are super crisp with no perceivable bleed over, as you can see from the close up image I've shared, leaving a clear image with the deepest blacks I have seen in quite some time. This clarity is aided by the HDR capability of the G2 which provides exceptional contract even at the extremes of brightness. The colours are vibrant where they should be, and the different display settings provide a number of options to further enhance content. The colours are vibrant where they should be, and the different display settings provide a number of options to further enhance content. DIsplay clarity is so good that, even the dog has begun to show an interest in what is happening on screen from time to time, something he has never done previously. Sound quality is also worlds apart from my previous unit, even though both are mounted in the exact same location. The G2's sound has added extra depth to ever show and movie we have consumed on it. It really feels like the sound is filling the room, which is admittedly not a large room but even so, this gives additional feel to the sound and dimension we'd not previously experienced. There are a couple of negatives though. The G2 comes with a flush mount wall bracket, this would be lovely but does require your wall to be flat or it looks a bit weird, it also means sockets are visible beneath the TV to run power, etc. to. You can mount the TV on a VESA mount, as I have, but the instructions for this are non-existent and honestly I wasn't sure if it was permissible. Secondly, the AI sound feature setting does cause rather vast variations in perceived volume level. Leaving us reaching for the remote to adjust the level far to frequently, we've switched it off and stick to the more predictable settings instead. All in I think this is a great TV, I would buy one again and I would happily recommend it to a friend or family member. Though I do think I would suggest they check out the C2 first to see if that would cover their needs, as I do wonder if the increased cost of the G2 is worth it.

LG has for years been at the forefront of OLED technology and they've done it again with the G2. Whilst OLED burn-in always worried me a little bit and having seen it on other OLEDs and plasma TVs in the past (not my own) it was something that made me wary, especially at the higher price point With the release of LG's first set with a heatsink to reduce the risk of said burn-in and the fact that the panel warranty now covers burn-in as well, I felt far more confident that it would no longer be an issue and was happy to spend a not inconsiderable amount of hard-earned money. This set is huge, but with its ultra-slim bezels, it doesn't feel a whole lot bigger than my ancient 60-inch plasma (with huge bezels) it is replacing, and when you take its depth into account and it's a mere slip of a thing. The picture quality is amazing....and I'm shocked at how bright this set can get, even in a brightly lit room. The colours are incredible and when playing back full HDR media, this thing just blows the viewer away. That said, it's not only 4K material that looks great, 1080 material still pops and looks great, even at this size. If I had any negatives, the remote itself would be one. At this price point, the remote should at least be backlit, and it feels quite cheap in the hand when compared to the competition, so much so that I've reverted to using a well-known multi remote for full remote control duties. I'm also not a massive fan of WebOS. Yes, it's super snappy and has all the needed apps, but it feels almost invasive with the number of ads that bombard you from the home screen. I know all new TVs are like this but it feels a little more heavy-handed on this LG set. That said, the two negatives above are minor ones and are forgotten once your chosen media starts playing. Turn the lights down to enjoy a movie in a darkened room and this set is off the charts good. My other 4k LCD sets look great but the infinite contrast of OLED makes the quality this thing puts out, nigh on impossible to beat. It's not often I'd spend such a substantial amount of money on a TV, and I hope it can last as long as my last set...but I couldn't be happier with it and look forward to watching it every single day/night. Highly recommended to all who want the best on offer

Fantastic TV
15 August 2022

I upgraded from a 65" LED TV from a different make. Wow, what a difference. Starting with the externals, the TV itself is very thin and once mounted on the wall using the included wall mount it sits very close to the wall for a fantastic look. Setup is straightforward. For me I plugged in the three HDMI devices I use and turned it on. The TV guides you through the setup process and this is all very straightforward. At this stage you'll notice the remote which is different to other TV remotes I have in that it supports a point and click type operation where you move the remote and the pointer moves allowing you to select things (think a certain games console with a plumber as a mascot). This is an interesting approach and works well. Once setup I mainly use Google TV ... MoreI upgraded from a 65" LED TV from a different make. Wow, what a difference. This is an interesting approach and works well. Once setup I mainly use Google TV rather than the built-in WebOS interface, but this is primarily because my family (including two young children) are used to the very simple remote. If it was just me I would be more than happy using the built-in interface. I also have a PS5 connected and the TV supports all the cool features you'd expect like 4K, HDR, VRR. Gaming looks absolutely fantastic. So far I have mainly tried Horizon: Forbidden west and it is mind bogglingly beautiful on this TV. Regardless of the source I use a Denon receiver for audio. This is sent from the TV to the receiver using eARC and this has worked very well. HDMI CEC which tends to be problematic with most devices has also worked flawlessly. This is where you can use the remote of a connected device (in my case Google TV or PS5) to turn on/off the TV and also to select the correct input. This is fantastic as it means a single remote for my family members to watch TV whilst still using surround sound. There is some glare during bright days when the sun hits the TV, but this is to be expected with any TV, and especially so with OLED. OLED is often criticised for not being bright enough but I can't say I've had that problem. It would be nice if LG started having connection boxes where there is a single cable to the TV which goes down to a box with all the other connectors. Some other brands have this and it would be great with this TV since it sits so very close to the wall. There is, of course, the issue of price. This is a very high end TV and is priced accordingly. Having said that, if you have the money to spare and you're int he market for a high end TV you definitely won't go wrong with this one.

First Impressions

Delivery was smooth - 2 man Panther team who supplied a 2 hour time window the night before and called around 30 minutes before arrival. I bought this to replace an older 55" LED TV and was tempted to use the same wall mount, however a dedicated one was included in the box which allowed the TV to be mounted flush to the wall so ended up using that instead. Instructions were clear and had a link to a video tutorial - but a few more details would have been appreciated. I needed to use an 8mm drill bit for the rawl plugs and the provided template only covered the top half of the tv so I needed some careful measuring to make sure when mounted there was enough clearance for my central mantelpiece speaker. Actually attaching the tv to the bracket proved a little tricky. ... MoreDelivery was smooth - 2 man Panther team who supplied a 2 hour time window the night before and called around 30 minutes before arrival. Actually attaching the tv to the bracket proved a little tricky. There are tabs supplied which you attach to the bracket and the tv - but as it's so close to the wall it's a little tricky to line these up and look behind the tv. There was a sense of relief when I heard the satisfying click as it landed in position. It's worth noting that it's much easier to run the cables prior to wall mounting as it's so flush - and make sure you have a long enough hdmi cable as with such a big tv a little bit of extra length is needed. As you look at it, the sockets are on the left hand side and all my AV equipment is on the right hand side so this added to the distance. I have previously used 2m cables but need at least 3m now. Setup was a breeze after creating an LG account. QR codes provided on screen allowed me to use my phone to complete all necessary stages. I'm using it with a virgin 360 box and an AV receiver and had trouble trying to use the supplied LG remote with those devices. There is a set up stage which helps with this but I couldn't get it to work and as a result am still using two remotes (LG one for the built in TV features / apps and the virgin one for sound / channels) Out of the box, the picture quality was excellent - across SD, HD and UHD channels, there are a multitude of options to tinker with but I haven't found the need to do this just yet. I am also keen to see some live sport to better assess the motion capability. WebOS seems to be very responsive and has a clear interface - with the added benefit of being able to control my IOT light bulbs which was a nice surprise. Overall, I think this is an outstanding tv - and I know I've only scratched the surface so will update more once I've had more time to explore the additional features.

Oh My God - How Good is this TV
16 August 2022

To start at the beginning, unboxing the TV was very straight forward as was it easy to fit the and install tv on to the stand. The next step was equally as easy as when I turned the TV on, I just had to follow the easy step by step guide on screen instructions to get the TV up and running. This was easy to both implement and understand. My initial thought after it was set up was Oh My God, what a picture and the sound was not too bad either. I have Sky Q, and this was easy to set up on the TV, and I also took the opportunity to set up so I could play all my usual tv apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime video, Disney+ and Rakuten tv The tv had 4 HDMI sockets that I used to connect my Sky Q box, my Blu Ray Player, and my games console. I feel as the only negative that another couple of HDMI sockets would be useful to have. I also took the opportunity to explore the functions of the TV and I can confirm that it was great for mirroring content from my phone. In particular I like the options for my sound bar with both a digital out to connect my external sound bar and speakers I connected my sound devices through HDMI arc and that was once again a very easy option to undertake. The Bluetooth function worked well with my headphones, and I was also able to get it to connect to my Amazon Echo. Also, a very useful function that I can connect Bluetooth to my keyboard and mouse, very helpful for web browsing. The remote control was easy to use I especially liked its mouse like curser and short cuts to Netflix, Amazon prime video, Disney + and Rakuten TV. The remote also can be used to control your smart devices with its built in Google and Alexa, which can be used alongside the integrated LG voice control. The TV also has a USB port to connect any memory sticks so you can record live tv or just use it to watch your downloaded content obtained from other sources. I also liked that it plays You Tube direct on TV. I would recommend this tv to anyone. I am extremely pleased with the quality, the fact that it has the best picture I have ever seen, and it was so easy to set up and it really has everything one could ask for in a new TV.

Picture perfect OLED TV
4 July 2022

This is LG’s flagship G2 77” OLED evo Gallery Edition TV and its simply gorgeous. Despite the premium price tag the G2 only comes with a wall mount and the LG G2 TV stand is not yet released in the UK to order, we had to use a universal TV stand for now to suit the setup in our conservatory until the LG TV stand is available. That aside LG designed the G2 with an eye catching premium finish which looks gorgeous however you display it. Once up and ruining you can see immediately how intuitive LG’s new version of the webOS is to navigate and frankly it really impresses. Navigating the Freeview TV channels as well as the built in Apps is the most user-friendly menu system that I’ve seen on any TV. It is very fast and intuitive with an ergonomically designed LG smart remote / pointer / roller to navigate and Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Rokuten TV as well Alexa dedicated buttons for instantly switching between apps. I really like that Alexa is built in and works really well with LG’s fastest A9 Gen5 AI processor 4K, Dolby Vision IQ, Filmmaker Mode, Dolby Atmos along with gaming features such as Nvidia G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium only further enriches the viewing experience.. The G2 boosts an upgraded OLED evo panel, with the all-new Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor and much improved heat dissipation than last year’s G1 model. The panel is in fact extremely bright with deep blacks and rich vibrant colours when watching any TV channel, movie or show, so much so it that I find watching TV much more engaging and enjoyable seeing detail the likes of which I’ve never experienced before. It’s worth mentioning that the smart picture options on the TV automatically select the best picture mode for you as it accurately determines what type of content you are watching and adjusts the image to suit movies, TV series and gaming etc. Nice! As for the sound quality the G2 built in down firing speakers are surprisingly good and noticeably better than the C2 model for example though we use our home theatre system when watching movies etc for full 7.1 surround sound. In summary the new LG G2 77” OLED evo Gallery Edition has a gorgeous design and produces the best picture I’ve ever seen on any TV. My only real gripe is that I feel it should come with a TV stand included as well as the wall mount. Never the less it’s truly stunning and if you have the budget, this is one TV you have to add to your wish list and experience it in person.

Slim and Stylish

This is a first impressions review of the LG OLEG56G26LA 2022 "gallery edition" wall-mounted TV. As a premium 4K TV, launched new for spring 2022, it comes with the latest ultra-sharp picture quality and deep blacks that you would expect, but the feature that sets this particular model apart is undoubtably its wall mounting system. The TV comes with a special, slim bracket which pairs with a recess in the back of the TV to allow for an incredibly snug fit. Paired with a thin silver edge rather than the more normal black or glass effect, this does give a "artwork hung on the wall" look - helpfully, one of the TV's optional "always on" displays when powering off is a slow cycle through famous paintings - which as you might expect in 4K with the rich colours and blacks ... MoreThis is a first impressions review of the LG OLEG56G26LA 2022 "gallery edition" wall-mounted TV. The TV comes with a special, slim bracket which pairs with a recess in the back of the TV to allow for an incredibly snug fit. Paired with a thin silver edge rather than the more normal black or glass effect, this does give a "artwork hung on the wall" look - helpfully, one of the TV's optional "always on" displays when powering off is a slow cycle through famous paintings - which as you might expect in 4K with the rich colours and blacks of this OLED screen, look amazing. It is important to get the wall fixing done correctly, it requires getting 8 screws (provided) into your wall, in 2 rows of 4. As our desired wall mounting point was over a disused fireplace, a slight bulge in the wall there meant we had to find and use 4 washers on the top row to ensure the TV was mounted vertically. When hanging the TV on the stand, it does move a little until the stand clips are moved back with a click to secure the and hold it flush to the wall. This movement allows the TV to be levelled correctly even if the mounting itself is not perfect, but be aware of it otherwise it won't look quite right if you just push it in. In terms of the TV user interface itself, a lot of apps come built right in, with some of the biggest names (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Home) appearing right on the remote control. The key new interface is using the remote control to move a cursor on the screen - this takes a bit of getting used to, especially as it gradually goes out of alignment with where you are pointing the remote control. Not all apps support the cursor mode. I do miss having simple play, rewind and stop buttons on the remote control, but a wheel and scroll substitute this quite well and I will get used to it! The TV picture is amazing, as you would expect for this premium position in LG's range. Filmmaker mode (no smoothing/interpolation/tinting) is automatically engaged when watching Amazon Prime films which is a nice touch. For other films or channels, changing the picture effects is quite straightforward from the remote control. All in all a great high quality package which looks fantastic in the living room: high quality but unobtrusive.

The best LG yet?
12 August 2022

I have been using this TV now for just under 2 weeks and am very pleased with the results. The model I am using is the 77" G2 and my comparison is against a 65" LG C9 from 2019, which I was always very happy with, but I was intrigued to see what the extra screen space and 3 years of tech improvements has bought to the table. Firstly the overall picture is outstanding. Picture quality is great (if not much different to the C9) but the brightness and peak HDR highlights is noticeably better on this 2022 model. I have tested SDR and HD from a Sky Q mini box and can say that both are an improvement. Netflix/Disney+ streaming in Dolby Vision HDR are really where this TV shines though with excellent picture quality. Another plus point is gaming. Netflix/Disney+ streaming in Dolby Vision HDR are really where this TV shines though with excellent picture quality. Another plus point is gaming. Playstation 5 looks excellent, and PC gaming at 120hz is wonderful. Forza 5: Horizon on Xbox Gamepass Ultimate (PC version) looks stunning in motion and the TV automatically detects that a game is being played and so you can see using the game optimiser menu that VRR is enabled and what frame rate you are getting. Hands down this is the best large screen on the market for gaming from any manufacturer and I can highly recommend it for that alone. Other plus points vs my LG C9 are that the built in speakers are much improved and the virtual surround sound actually makes a surprising difference instead of feeling like a gimmick. This TV is designed to be wall mounted and as such, does not come with a stand. Unfortunately the stand (at time of publishing) was not available in the UK and hence the reason my testimonial is slightly delayed, as I needed some building work completed before I could mount it on the wall. I've got to say that the design is excellent and the flush wall mount in the box is easy to put up and feels very premium. One minor negative is that LG told me back in April that this would be free to owners of the G2, but they have since clarified this will be an additional cost if required. Web O/S is still easy to use, if a bit slower than my LG C9 model. I'm sure in time that LG will make improvements to the software, and I know from experience that LG support TV's with updates for many years to come, so you can buy safe in the knowledge that you can use it for many years without issues. No coil whine to report. Overall I am very happy with this TV and would not hesitate to recommend it to people in the market for a high-end OLED display.

Wow - this is a stunning tv!
25 July 2022

There are so many places I could start - because there are so many things to love about this TV. But I have to start with the picture. My previous LG OLED is now seven years old, so I expected an upgrade, but I didn't expect to be blown away minute-by-minute as I am. The picture is stunning. The brights just pop and glow so captivatingly. And put that next to the pure blacks and the vibrant colours - and it's just so fun watching this TV! I'm really impressed by the software configuration options. There are plenty standard settings that will be more than good enough for the vast majority of users, but for those who wish to dive deeper, the tv is endlessly configurable. The menus are very responsive and the many different apps load almost instantaneously. There are plenty standard settings that will be more than good enough for the vast majority of users, but for those who wish to dive deeper, the tv is endlessly configurable. The menus are very responsive and the many different apps load almost instantaneously. And there really are so many different apps. That's another thing that has been such a joy about this tv - whether it's the range of apps, or the wired (e.g. 4 HDMI 2.1 ports) or wireless (bluetooth, Airplay, etc.) connectivity options, or the aforementioned settings options - it feels like this TV just misses nothing. But it's not all perfect. I was surprised by how heavy it was. I know that sounds stupid when talking about a 77" tv, but from a lot of what I'd read, I was expecting it to be a lot lighter. I'm VERY glad I didn't try and hang this myself. It also does protrude more from the wall than the promotional LG images suggest, which I thought was a bit cheeky of them. As much as the 'wand' functionality of the remote works very well, the remote feels cheap to hold, and it's very poor form that they haven't gone for a backlit design. A significant gripe of mine is regarding the power cable. It's not detachable from the TV and it's very short which is a nonsense for a TV that is designed to be wall-mounted. Additionally, the cable management leaves a lot to be desired. There's a great number of ports, but not enough space for the cables. But once you overcome these relatively little issues, you’ll be left with a stunning tv which will give you lots to smile about. This is one of best things I’ve ever owned!
