The thing works only with the bare phone.I find it VERY annoying considering many of those who use the phone to film, they use some sort of case.And I don't really have certainty about this but I would bet that the majority of people who owns a high quality phone use it with a case because no one wants the thing breaking.So why on earth would Lexar design the ssd without taking the phone case into consideration? Beats me...

I got this drive shortly after it was released. It comes with or without the Hub but I would recommend the hub, it adds so much versatility. It is as easy as plug & pay with the iPhone. No formatting needed. The drive is light and works great on a Gimbal. My only critique is that the USB C plug is hard to pull from my Mac Studio port. But! It is very secure when attaced to my phone, so I'll take that as the reason why.
A great idea, great product, well made, works great! My only complaint is that if your iPhone has a thick case, like I do, the U-shaped adapters will not work, I have to remove my thick protective case and use a thinner case instead when using this device.
