I'm struggling to write this review. I purchased this fully spec'd out Gen 9 in August of 21. I am a road warrior executive that lives on his laptop. I fell in love with the Lenovo a very long time ago. We have adopted the Lenovo as our "Go-To" in house laptop that all employees receive when they are hired. They are exceptional machines. When ordering this laptop I knew I wanted something fully spec'd out that would last awhile. I am a road warrior that does not do a lot -- by no means I'm no power user. At most have 2-3 normal apps open for email, music, and some customer data. This laptop from day 1 - would only last 2-3 hours a day. 2 years later I'm unable to get even an hour and a half. It pains me to write this because plugged in - it's amazing. Regardless, I ... MoreI'm struggling to write this review. I purchased this fully spec'd out Gen 9 in August of 21. I cheated in IBM and purchased a Surface Pro 9. I'm on my 3rd day with no charge, doing the exact same work load. I would easily switch back if they can figure out their battery issues. Do not believe any review that says all day battery life, it's simply not true. At first I thought it was a defective laptop, but all 10 from the order this one came from have the same issues. I really hope in the next few years Lenovo can figure it out. Battery life is important.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th Gen to anyone in the market for a reliable, durable, and powerful laptop.

This is my 4th ThinkPad computer. In general, I like them better than any PC. (Only MacBook Pro computers are comparable in my opinion.) The first two ThinkPad computers I had no trouble and lasted many years without any hardware issues. I purchased a larger version (15.5 inch) of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon in May 2021 with a 2-year warranty. For one year and half, it worked well. Nice feel, fairly fast, design of trackpad better than any PC laptop that I know. Extra ports for HDMI, USB, USB-C, are all very nice. Then, the camera failed in November 2022. More hardware issues in December. I would submit the computer for repair with warranty claims on January 2. It would take until Feb. 17 to get back and fully functional. It is working well right now and a better battery life than the 2021 version. The camera and screen are nice. i did buy the extended 3-year accidental warranty; but wonder if something happens if it will also take 6-7 weeks to repair. No one was in a hurry to get my other ThinkPad X1 Carbon fixed. When they run right, they are very nice and top of PC line.

I have owned this device for about 3 weeks, and it is a phenomenal device. My last Lenovo product was an E531, which lasted me 10 years and is still running, so I knew I wanted another Lenovo product. This has not disappointed. The lightweight design is a huge plus for anyone traveling and using this computer on the go. I have used both 15" and 13" screens, and I think the 14" is a great compromise between the two, as you get some extra screen, but the computer does weigh as much or take up the majority of your backpack.Battery seems solid, and I appreciate being able to have the selective charge feature that allows for you to only charge to 80% in order to reduce battery deterioration for people that are plugged in most of the time.People have complained about ... MoreI have owned this device for about 3 weeks, and it is a phenomenal device. The chassis does get rather hot, but if you don't have it in your lap, that isn't something to be concerned about. The ports they kept on this device feel perfect. Enough USB A ports to get by, but also 2 USB C for the heavy data transfers and docking stations.Speakers are super loud, best I've ever seen on a computer. I love my music, and when on the run they are great for video calls.Speaking of video, the camera is sub-par and rather disappointing. Probably the only hardware part they really cheaped out on 720p really gets grainy in low light. Will want an external camera if you do more than just the occasional meeting online. Privacy shutter is nice though.Overall, this is a solid device! Sadly, MS has a glitch on their updates, and I had to reinstall Window 11 a few days ago in order to get a Win10 era update to go onto my device. Not a Lenovo problem hardware problem at all, but do be aware that you may have to do some update work simply because MS hasn't fixed their update system properly in Win11.This is a pricey computer, but I would say that the durability and quality of the product pays for itself in a very short time.
Some windows hello features do not work. For one, the camera is not compatible with windows hello. Second, the fingerprint scanner does not work. This appears to be a common issue when researching fingerprint failure on Thinkpad X1. Spent 90 mins on phone support to tech who ultimately felt that the BRAND NEW laptop required a NEW motherboard, fingerprint scanner and camera. I pushed back that it was more likely a software / driver issue, but this was their recommendation. Tech arrived and ripped apart the brand new laptop to replace these components, and sure enough they still do not work. Tech indicated it is likely a software issue that the components are not compatible with Win11 which is what the system was delivered with. Will very likely be sending all 9 laptops back and reverting to my former hardware supplier.
Starting a small business I wanted something capable enough to handle the demands of functionality, ease of use and exceptional performance. I used a Gen 9 at my previous role and knew I wanted one but on my terms. Rather than getting a Gen 10 I decided to get a top of the line Gen 9 and save a little money instead. I built my unit complete with an i7, 32g ram, Adobe Creative Cloud and touchscreen all of which are huge improvements over my old work unit. I love this thing. In the month that I have had it it has been incredible. I had the one Mira app that caused some issue but I disabled it. Also, it froze on me once but beyond that it has been impressive. I got what I wanted in a powerful unit. I use this daily and cannot express how happy I am. I could have gotten a much cheaper unit but given how much I am investing in my small business and real estate I wanted something that would be a game changer.
I had this laptop for over a year and happy to get rid of it.I purchased it in Dec 2021 with 16Gb memory, 4K screen, 1TB SSD plus TB4 dock. I did like the look of it, the design is cool, the laptop is very light. The 4K screen is really good and bright. I also liked the latest (at the time) CPU. My decision was largely influenced by highly praised reviews. At the time I wanted to replace my older laptop, and to get a reliable work laptop to last a few years. At this point the positive story ends.Negatives: In favor of miniaturization, the memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded/extended. The laptop is missing the second SSD slot. Missing Ethernet plug is a hurdle. The 14 inch screen is too small for work (that's my primary use). Keyboard is kind of small. In summary, the laptop is practical only with external dock connected, with external monitors and keyboard. By itself, it is just a sophisticated, very expensive tablet.Further, within a year I had three motherboard failures. One time the laptop was replaced by Lenovo, two times the system board was replaced. At the end, Lenovo agreed to purchased it back. I believe this specific model is a "lemon" of Lenovo. I had and still own Lenovo laptops, and consider them of good quality. So, if you are considering this model, make sure to purchase good warranty. You'll need it.
My company is a big fan of Lenovo products. I, on the other hand, have been a Microsoft Surface fan since the release of the original Surface Pro series. However, since I was in the market for an ultraportable device to replace my Surface Book and Microsoft has made it to complicated to make a decision, I decided to try what the company uses Lenovo. Usually, they choose Flex line, I preferred the specs on the X1 Carbon Gen 9. The model has been around for some time, the weight was a big factor. Also, the clean install of Windows 11 22H2 since I have been using an upgrade version from Windows 10 and I'm advised that the newest release of 11 can't run on the Surface. Highly pleased with the results. The only con I have is that I also needed to purchase a new docking station with combination USB-A, USB-C, External Video HDMI and of course Network Connection.
Small, light and powerful. Everything I expected from my third X1 Carbon over the years. This latest version is lighter, faster and has improved audio and display over my previous X1s. The keyboard layout it taking a bit of time to get used to but that seems to be the case with any new laptop I've owned. I'm sure someone will find something they can find issue with but I honestly haven't. We've moved on from the standard number of USB port from my previous system but a USBC port has replaced the one that was removed which IMO is an improvement. This features I find the most improved and note worthy are the display clarity and improved audio. The audio on the system is a vast improvement over my previous laptop from a competitor. It is very noticeably louder, clearer and provides a much better experience for entertainment when needed for watching movies or videos. In short, I'm very happy with this purchase.
The computer is generally fast, thin, lightweight, the display is bright, and the sound is pretty loud. All positives. I would have gotten a larger screen if I had my druthers. It is hard to see things because they are much smaller given the high resolution of the screen.I like to have 3 pages of Word docs visible at the same time, but the text is really small. The computer has issues with going to sleep and waking up from sleep. Also, I don't like that you have to open the lid to get to the power button, especially when the computer is sleeping. The keyboard layout was changed, specifically moving the pg up/pg down buttons, which I don't care for although I guess I'll get used to it. I would have liked some more ports on the computer itself. I do like that the keys are lit up, but I miss the light that was on top that would let me see papers in the car when my spouse was driving. I am not sure about its upgradability down the road, but since it belongs to work not really an issue for me.
