Matte screen minimizes glare. Touchscreen is responsive. This is my second X1 Gen 12. The first one I returned after the standard touchpad was acting up. A Lenovo tech came and tried to fix it by replacing it but no luck. Seems it just didn't work with my fingers, strange as it may sound. I ordered this second one with the Sensel touchpad. The additional price (another $300 or so) on an already too expensive laptop didn't impress me, but I love the X1... This is replacing a Gen 5 that still works flawlessly after 6 years (and after keyboard replacement... I actually wore holes through a few keys). The new X1 with the Sensel is excellent. The Sensel touchpad is excellent, smooth and accurate out of the box with no tweaks to settings required. The laptop itself is a dream to use. Everything is at least a little bit better ... MoreThis is my second X1 Gen 12. The first one I returned after the standard touchpad was acting up. Everything is at least a little bit better than my old X1 and it's a lot faster, and facial recognition is awesome. My only complaints are as follows. 1) They finally caved and put the CTRL and Fn keys in the standard locations. Too bad. The ThinkPad way really is the right way and they should have stuck to their guns. I switched them back in the BIOS and suspect that I can remove and swap the physical keys but haven't given it much of a try yet.2) I wish they still had an SD card reader on the X13) I wish they would put a USB-C / charging port on the right hand side as well. Why not?

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 Intel (14 inch) is the best business computer I have owned in several years. It is light so easy to travel with. The OLED display is outstanding. I find the performance second to none. I don't know what Lenovo did to the keyboard but it is the best I have ever used in a laptop and I am a major critic of keyboards. There is no doubt that you can find less expensive computers but it all depends on what you are looking for and where your threshold is in terms of work demands. I have owned ThinkPad's from the time IBM first released them. Lenovo has built on that foundation and taken it to a new level. I have no regrets buying this computer and I doubt anyone will have second thoughts once they try it out.

I purchased the X1 Carbon Gen 12 because it has a good history of reviews and support from the Lenovo community. I was replacing a Yoga 7i and felt I could do with a lighter and more work dedicated laptop. The anti-glare and touch screen are appreciated features, along with the easier to use camera privacy shutter. One difference that nags me is the smaller track pad and the feel of it in Thinkpad models, maybe it is a learning curve, but I am having a hard time properly working the two-finger page scrolling, which makes for frustrating navigation at times. Other than this small annoyance, I find this model to be have great performance and be very responsive to my needs. Would recommend, may to folks with smaller fingers at first.
I'm a court reporter/stenographer so I needed a laptop with specific processors to download this program I need for my job. I also travel a lot so I wanted a lightweight laptop that had excellent battery life. Multiple people recommended this laptop to me so I decided to give it a go. I spent a little more on the 1TB of memory and a WLAN slot so when I travel out the country I don't have to worry about WiFi (T-Mobile has great international coverage)So far the laptop has been excellent. Sometimes it shows me I have 12 hours of battery life left. I can go a few days without charging it and the battery won't die. In my one month of owning it, I've never had it tell me the battery is low. The laptop is pricey but it's worth it in my opinion. One blip I did notice is ... MoreI'm a court reporter/stenographer so I needed a laptop with specific processors to download this program I need for my job. The laptop is pricey but it's worth it in my opinion. One blip I did notice is that sometimes when I unplug the headphones and something is playing from the laptop, the audio will mute itself and even when I press the F1 unmute button, the music still won't play. I'll have to go into the settings and do "test speakers" to remind the laptop which speakers I'm trying to use. Or sometimes I connect my headphones and disconnect them again and the music begins playing from the laptop. I can easily look past this but I hope Lenovo takes a look at it!
Excellent continuation of an excellent product. Upgraded from Carbon X1 gen8 (2020) to gen12. Double the RAM, double the SSD, triple the processor speed compared to old laptop. I didn't love all the extra Lenovo and Intel software installed - much of which seemed unnecessary and some of which appeared to include unwanted telemetry; but it wasn't too hard to disable. Trackpad is larger; fingerprint reader is better / more reliable; and IR camera works nicely for Windows Hello. Same excellent light form factor. I'd buy it again.
This is my third Lenovo Thinkpad and it is the only laptop I will ever buy. The SSD hard drive and the processing speed are fantastic. My previous second ThinkPad lasted seven years and is still great, but after years of me being a little hard on it, the AC adapter port needs a repair so I bought my current one. I plan to get my old one repaired and so I can continue to use it to as a back-up and second laptop. I gave my first one to my husband and he uses it as backup because it still works great. I am statistics professor at a large university, but I buy my own laptops because I want to have full administrative control. I use this laptop every day in and out of class and it always works well.
This is my 1st Lenovo laptop after being a loyal HP purchaser for 15 to 20 years. Since I had been happy with my HPs I never looked elsewhere. However, when my 7 year-old HP laptop decided to re-start when it felt like it, ( no particular rhyme or reason to the timing) , I asked our company's IT professional what laptop he recommended, and he told me that he uses the ThinkPad X1.I am thrilled with my purchase. It was easy to configure and is lighter than my old HP. The color on the screen is very rich.Because I had a couple of questions when I was choosing my options, I placed my order on the phone. The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 12 surpassed my expectations. The reason I only purchase Lenovo Thinkpads is because for many years (and many X1's) the laptop fills my needs for business as well as personal use in a slim, fully featured package. The ordering process is a breeze, the delivery is prompt. There are numerous builds to select from (I'm too lazy to build my own). I was surprised at the improved features since my 2019 X1. The on-site repair warranty is a life-saver and unparalleled, to my knowledge, in the industry. OK, I admit it. I'm in love with my laptop!
As much as I love Lenovo PCs, I wasn't happy with the X1 Carbon Gen 12.First of all, the matte finish is not as the previous Lenovos I owned, it's impossible to clean--brings back the same stain or whatever. I my case to circles that I did not put there from day 1.Secondly, the windows 11 on it was bad. They need to make it possible for people not interested in microsoft products to be able to setup without microsoft forcing them to sign up, etc.Lastly, and the bad part was when microsoft bitdefender renders the machine useless, because without warning it locks the system up, requiring encryption key not previously provided. If that's the case, it should have prompted everyone to set that up first before the use of the machine.
