Have owned this Leatherman Signal multitool for several months now and have truly been enjoying using it.I initially had second thoughts as to whether this was the right multitool for me (given the many Leatherman choices there are available nowadays) as I do a lot of home DIY's and maintenances, but decided on this particular multitool as I do enjoy the occasional camping trip and thought the extra tools (eg fire starter, awl and whistle) could come in handy. This has been an asset of a purchase as having this tool on me has greatly improved my productivity with the DIY's and property maintenance - no longer do I have to double back to my work ute to get a screwdriver, a pair of pliers, or fossick about for a work knife when I need to open packaging as its all ... I ordered three Signals as gifts for friends. Each one was customized to the individual. I enjoyed the customization process, but once I received them I was disappointed with the delivery condition. Each leatherman was covered in debris from what looked like the etching process. The tools were dirt and greasy. The bright colors of teal, yellow, and pink were dirty and some of the plastic didn't come clean after using some SD-20 (gentle degreaser) on the tools. I also noticed that "USA" is not stamped or labeled anywhere on these tools which feels suspicious. I was under the impression that the Signal was made in the States for what it costs with the customizations. I'd very much like to buy an ARC, but I'm not sure it's worth the cost based on how these signals look.

I bought this with the intent of using it on my backpacking/hiking trips, along with some basic daily tasks. It was a bit stiff to open at first, but that loosened up overtime so no big deal at all. Knife was extremely sharp in box. All the tools worked as expected, only complaint was the Ferrocerium Rod. The useable part of it just barely comes over the plastic that encases it. So you really only get a few good strikes before it's worn down below the plastic point. In a survival situation, only getting a few chances to light a fire can be a pretty big deal. Once the rod it worn down to the plastic, it's basically useless. Besides that single flaw, it's perfect.

The full sized 1/4" socket (they call it a box-end wrench) is what sets this tool apart (the hammer and ferro rod are "cute", but the hex socket is really the ticket!). This is my #1 tool for bike touring, and overlanding. Get a 1/4" hex extension and some hex bits and you've got yourself a L-handled wrench and a pocket-sized tool kit (I've got Allen wrenches up to 10mm, hex-head drivers, torx up to T40, plus all the handy flat inserts from Leatherman). Add a 1/4" socket adapter and the sky's the limit! (well, torque is the limit, but you get the picture). My Signal is essential to my mechanical repair kit, functioning as my pliers, screwdrivers, and 1/4" ratchet (especially with Leatherman's ratcheting extension!)For backpacking, the hammer is great, but you'll ... My Signal is essential to my mechanical repair kit, functioning as my pliers, screwdrivers, and 1/4" ratchet (especially with Leatherman's ratcheting extension!)For backpacking, the hammer is great, but you'll probably bash your hand using it if you're not careful. It also takes a lot of effort to put in all 6 stakes (8 if its real windy) in my backpacking tent. If you're car camping, I recommend keeping a full sized hammer or mallet with you, but this is all I carry when backpacking. Same goes with the ferro rod. I have a better backup fire-starter in my car camping kit, but between a lighter and this ferro rod, this is all I have when backpacking. The only tool this is missing is a fine-toothed saw with a course file on one side and fine file on the other. If it had that, this would be my favorite EDC tool, and I'd probably have 3 or 4 of these! Please come out with a Signal + that adds a fine toothed saw and files!
I love my new Signal. I use it frequently and the blades are holding up well. My one observation/critique is that the bottom serrated portion of the blade has cut my thumb more than once whilst opening the blade in the usual thumb opening motion. As the blade opens using the right side of your thumb, your thumb naturally begins roll with the blade as it moves from the closed '6 o'clock' position to the fully opened '12 o'clock' position. Somewhere around the '9 o'clock' position your thumb can get caught by the serrations and you end up losing a small slice of flesh. It's happened a few times and I shrugged it off but this last time it dug a bit deeper and drew a little blood. I'm no stranger to knives that open in this manner and never had any issue with my ... I'm no stranger to knives that open in this manner and never had any issue with my previous EDC (Skeletool) so I'm considering this a small design flaw. Other than that I have no complaints. It comes in handy every day. I'm sure I'll eventually either lose enough flesh to flatten my thumb down to where it's no longer an issue ;) or remember to be a little more cautious when flipping the blade open.
Run across this little beauty while searching for a multifunction backpacking knife I can use while living overseas. I usually carry a larger sheath knife plus a Leatherman Wave, but it's a heavy combo and a little more brazen to carry a setup that's verging on a "dangerous weapon" in various foreign contexts.Although I usually prefer a straight main blade, I can't fault Leatherman for adding the serrations as it really helps for stripping off little peices of kindling for starting backcountry fires (probably one of the main things I'll use it for). The can opener and saw blade I consider essential for backpacking as well. The addition of the ferrus rob, whistle, and emergency sharpening stone really round this out with some cool emergancy features too. And as ... And as always for Leatherman, the main blade and saw blade are super sharp. And the aqua/black color is a super cool.My secondary use is for a light tool for moving / putting furniture together that I can pack in my suitcase, so I'm glad it comes with the screwdriver bit as well. Would be nice if it had space for a small scissors feature but not a deal breaker.
Well rounded multitool that suites both outdoor and indoor tasks. Used in a variety of ways during daily activity and has not been of much use in the outdoors as of yet. Its nice to have the extra fire starter in case the main one is lost. The whistle is actually pretty decent. The sharpener is questionable. Its nice that the fire starter and sharpener are replaceable. Love the fact it has a little hammer unlike the similar sized leathermans. The knife and awl are fantastic.
I recently bought the Coyote Tan Signal and carry it in my pocket every day. It seems to have everything I could need at any given time and is on the lighter side compared to other Leatherman's. It looks pretty badass, too. Unlike a lot of other reviewers, I don't mind having the combo blade, rather than two separate blades. Also, the combo blade on this is nice and thick. I do not mind using the screwdriver with the handle being offset, either. So far, I have used the caibeaner as a bottle opener, the pliers, the knife, and the flat and phillips screwdrivers. All have done their job. The pliers did lock up on me after cutting some wire, but I sprayed some silicone lubricant in them and opened and closed them repeatedly until actually broken in. They are better than new now. The clasp on the caribeaner is a little bent. I think I got it this way. Not a big deal, but I do notice it when I stare at this thing in admiration. I like the lock on these to keep everything securely closed when in your poclet. I only use the sheath when I need to throw it in a bag with other things. The sheath is a nice, sturdy nylon material with a snap. So far, I have no complaints or regrets with buying this, other than the price going up the last few years.
This is my go to multi-tool for outdoor pursuits. It fits the bill by giving me the tools I need in the field. Pliers for fishing and gear aid, backup saw, backup blade, screwdriver, and an awl. Everything else are nice additions in my opinion. The one thing I dislike is the sharpener. I don’t like that’s it’s simply diamond coated plastic. Leatherman, you can do better here. Why not consider an add on tool for purchase like a small file from the Wave+ and cut to size and made to fit in its place? This would be worth it’s weight in gold and give us a small file on one side and a diamond coated sharpener on the other plus it would be metal.I hope you all read this over at Leatherman and consider how somethingike this could offer your very loyal customers a bit of ... This has been a very durable and reliable multi tool during the month I've had it. It still looks good after carrying in my pocket everyday among keys and a zippo lighter. The paint has minimal rub off considering being in my pocket and using several times a day while working on my cars and fixes around the house. Functionality wise it has been solid. I purchased the ratcheting bit extension at same time to use 1/4in bits mainly for an adapter for small sockets. Still operates smooth no play in moving parts. The pliers are strong and the wire cutters can cut through a nail without much effort. Even grabbed a different multi tool to try to cut the same nail and it was not able to without feeling like they were going to break. Very impressed with the wire cutters. I ... I have used the sharpener a couple of times and it does a good enough job on the straight edge of the blade, but it works perfectly for the serrated part. The ferro rod for me was easier to strike than the one on the Gerber survival knife. Though the Gerber did produce larger sparks. The awl on the signal is quite durable and went through pvc no problem. A file and ruler combo would be a valuable addition to the signal other than not having that it is my favorite multi tool and even favorite knife.
