JW red label is one of my favourites. As I said in other reviews, I tasted a few entry level blended scoth whisky's side by side, older and new one's, and for me, generally, they are fall down in quality. My style of scotch is that smokey like this one or Passport Scotch, Blackwhite, Black Bottle or William lawson's. No doubt that JW Black label is a good scotch, once it's my reference when I think in scotch, but it's only a bit deep than red. JW red label is very similar and not so smooth. The smoothness sometimes can be bored, and JW Red Label is bit more explosive with well integrated smoky and malt. I like very much the smell of this whisky.

I am not a drinker but do enjoy an occasional alcoholic beverage. I found myself liking hot toddies after trouble sleeping and I was given one made with Johnnie Walker Black as that is all that was available. I really enjoyed it, and it did help me sleep. After trying other blends/brands I could tolerate most but hated the taste. Johnny Walker Black blends nicely with the honey, fresh lemon, and the hot water brings it all together for a nice sipping beverage to drink over time and it's great if you can't sleep due to a cold or if you just can't sleep. The best part is I actually enjoy it!

For a long time I am a faithful and devoted fan of good whiskey, especially Scottish, whose quality is beyond praise. Without them, my life would definitely be grayer and more boring. Among inexpensive whiskey, I prefer Johnny Walker Red Label. This is a very strong alcohol with an aggressive taste, but that's what I like about it.The best taste of Johnny Walker Red Label is revealed in tulip-shaped glasses. Drink it is recommended at 18-20 degrees, but I prefer to drink this whiskey with a lot of ice. With this method of consumption, its aggressiveness is mitigated, and one can experience with its receptors all the richness of the fragrant bouquet. At first, with the first gulp, you can enjoy honey-spicy shades, which immediately lift the mood and relieve fatigue. ... If I drink Red Label without ice, at room temperature, then the smoky smack is felt sharper.Absolutely do not take Johnny Walker Red Label with cola or other drinks. After such cocktails for the morning in the head fog and headaches are provided. It is better to drink pure whiskey and not more than 150-200 ml per night. Under this whiskey I have especially good oranges and lemons, then the taste is even brighter. Enjoy your evenings, friends!

I have mixed feelings about this. i consider it to be average. For a smoke/peat scotch, the price is great which makes it worth the purchase. Famous Grouse smoky black is another great buy which cost less. The only difference between the two is the JW double black has a stronger and longer lasting smoke flavor than FG smoky black. FG smoky is softer and sweeter. In my opinion i rather pay more and purchase an aged single-malt. I find the peat flavoring to be more enjoyable when aged 10yrs or longer. Id go with Bowmore or Laphroaig.
For under forty bucks, this is a very solid whisky, but took a bit of adjusting to as someone newish to smokier scotches.Unsurprisingly, it has a moderate smoke to it best described as campfire; this mellows it out wonderfully. However, the more unique flavor in this whisky is barbecue. Not sure why, but this dram just evokes a thick, roasting ham on a wood fire. This was a bit off-putting at first, but once you stop checking for bacon grease in your Glencairn it makes way for some charming vanillins that aren't half-bad either.
Johnnie Walker Double Black is adored for its smoky, charred, peaty and spicy flavor notes. 40% ABV (80 proof), no age statement, blended Scotch whisky. It’s smoky and definitely have blends from Islay whiskies, which are briney and heavily peated.Appearance: Deep caramel with reddish tones. Medium strong legs.Nose: Significant oak presence. Notes of plum wine, cinnamon almonds, solvent, vanilla.Palate: Smoky and sweet. Honey, clove, wood fire smoke, spiced pear, pecan rolls. The sweetness and smoke linger after the relatively short burn.Overall: A good entry to Islay blended smokey whiskies.
Different Scotches come from different areas of Scotland. If you don’t like smoke then don’t buy anything that says Speyside. Stick to your bland highlands and lowlands scotches. This is an excellect example of a Speyside scotch. Smokey and full of phenolics. One of my very very favorites.
Got this for free for doing a favor and it was best I didn't pay for it. I always drink scotch neat on occasion (especially when I pay top dollar) and this wasn't good mixed or chased. I've never been one for JW because I personally think it's all hype, blue label is overrated and overpriced for something so bland. Bourbon and scotch are my go to for a nice kickback drink and this is by far one of the worst whisky's I've had. Far too smoky and not smooth going down at all (I love peety scotch by the way). To each their own is my motto but if you enjoy whisk(e)ys of any kind then don't waste your money on this one.
It’s been forever since I had any JW product and I have never tried the DB. I got a nice smoke, dried dark fruit, oak, and a hint of peak on the nose. The palette has more smoke, peat, burnt caramel, oak, a very subtle sweetness, and a mild burn which is surprising considering the 40% ABV. The finish is longer than expected and leaves a slight salty, sweet flavor that sticks around longer than you might expect. The DB was $34.99 when I picked it up. Well worth it. This is an easy sipper for times when you don’t want to challenge yourself. It’s very good. I would rate it a 4.5 if that were an option. Considering the leap in price from here to the green, gold, and blue, the DB is a bargain. Well worth it.
Recently took to Scotch in the form of Macallan 12 and Glenlivet 14, (so take this review for what that's worth) but want a budget Scotch for the week and to save the nicer stuff for the weekend. I sip my scotch 2 oz at a time, GL with 1 small ice cube and the Mac with 2.Thought I was buying JW Black Label and accidently purchased this. Cracked open the bottle and the smell was very strong and not in a good way. Even the missus remarked. It's oily in the mouth and the aftertaste is cough syrup with a touch of betadine. If this is smoky it's what I imagine Burger King does to make their Whopper taste smoky.I'm not convinced I didn't get a bad bottle from my neighborhood discount liquor store, but not risking buying another one to find out.I may be talking from ...
