I remember the days when you had to open a tin of tuna with a tin opener. The brine used to go everywhere, including over your hands. And you had to drain the excess brine down the sink. Then you ended up with soggy tuna! But times have changed. These John West tins are so easy to use. You just pull open the lid, and theres a nice bit of non-soggy tuna to lift out. Theres just a tiny bit of brine in the bottom of the tin. The tuna itself tasted really nice. I mixed it with some mayonnaise, and there was enough to fill sandwiches for myself and my husband.

I am reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I would prefer the ones in sunflower oil but this alternative is just as good. Not too salty. Needs perhaps a bit of moisture but can do that myself depending what you are having with it. Looks small but is a decent size portion. Concerned a bit about the plastic packaging as I prefer to be environmentally friendly.

... sized tin for a hearty lunch or quick dinner when used as a filling for a jacket potato & served with a salad. There is no oil to drain away or add calories, and no unwanted salt as in the brine packed variety. I mix in a little low-fat mayo, a finely chopped stick of celery and a grind of black pepper. Or for Coronation Tuna I add curry powder to taste instead of pepper. I cut a deep cross through the top of the potato, give the sides a good firm squeeze and it opens up ready for the filling to be piled on.

An easy to open container for elderly hands. Large chunks of solid tuna which in brine is always drier than the oil version. Easy to remove and moistened with mayo it made a perfect salad lunch. The plastic tub is recyclable. On my to buy list now.
I was given this as a free sample to try by Ocado. Particularly liked the packaging because it means you can put it straight in the fridge if you have any leftover. Tuna was good quality. I usually go for oil or springwater tuna so found this a little salty for my taste, but on par with the last brined tuna I bought. Also a bonus that I didn't need to find the can opener to eat the product.
I have bought this product for many years and was very happy with it. But now they have changed the packaging from tins to plastic pots I will not buy this product again. This packaging is unnecessary and is completely at odds with environmental concerns. Please bring back the tins and I would be happy to buy this tuna again as the no drain feature is very convenient.
I received this free as part of an Ocado promotion. I like that these are no drain as that's a bit of a faff, beyond that I don't see the difference with standard tinned tuna which is much cheaper. Also, it's a resealable container but there's only enough for one serving so that's a nonsense I think. I wouldn't buy this at full price.
My mum find the tuna to be different and doesn't like it, but I think its fine with less water and don't care either way. So, its' the same great product, but aren't they charging more for less? No, I'm not talking about the product weight. Assuming you can ignore the weight difference due to "less water" and that the tuna content is the same, then the equivalent usual 4 tins for Β£3.50 should multiply to Β£4.38 for 5 tins.I'll stick to the 4 packs.
I got this product free to review from Ocado. My usual tuna is always in a tin and I don't have any problems with it. I can't deny these pots are convenient. I usually use tuna for making tuna waffles for lunch (like Belgian waffles, but I use tuna as a main ingredient) and this one works good.
These mini cans of John West tuna steak are in such a handy size. It is very clean and no small bones in any of the tins Ive purchased myself. We bought ours on such a great offer with Ocado. Thank you Ocado. We went camping for the weekend and took a tin along with us, so it was obviously at room temperature and was really fresh tasting, although they are kept in my cupboard at home in a dark cool and dry place. Once opened transferred the little bit left, if any into an airtight container into the fridge. It has the bonus of the pull ring to open the metal tin top, although having said that we had one tin that the pull ring broke off. This would not put us off purchasing these again. Also they are no drain so another bonus and such makes these able to take ...Β MoreThese mini cans of John West tuna steak are in such a handy size.
