I'm actually quite disappointed in this speaker, and I'm a hug JBL fan. I love my Charge4s, and any JBL headphone I've been happy with. But the Pulse5 seems like a huge quality drop.First the Pros--Has great sound from any direction-Has an easy to use equalizer on the JBL app-The visuals are awesome(my favorite is the Storm setting)-Has a good battery for having lighting (about 10-12 hours on full blast, watch your eardrums though)Now the Cons--Has no control buttons. No volume, pause, skip, nothing.-PartyBoost isn't compatible with JBLConnect(old speakers)-PartyBoost is only useable about 6ft from each speaker. Purchased this for my daughter as she wanted a BT speaker with a lamp on it. As I have always bought JBL I stumbled on this and got it straight away. The light show is excellent and so accurate and the sound is crisp and clear. Although it does not have the JBL bass signature sound like the other speakers but very clear.

I fell in love with this as soon as I saw the reviews, and it didn't disappoint. The sound quality is great and the customisable light show is out of this world. What's more is that it's completely portable so can be carried anywhere. Brilliant

I would highly recommend this speaker for anyone looking to have background music. I would not expect to much sound quality wise, it roughly compares to a JBL flip 6 although slightly worse overall. It has lacking sub bass for its size and can have piercing highs at loud volumes (above 60% when close to the speaker). I recommend using the app for the lights and EQ. Overall the app is fairly good giving you several presets for the lighting of the speaker. I would note that the equalizer is only 3 bands ( bass, mids, treble ). My EQ preset is +1 on the bass -1 on the mids and treble.
I've owned the JBL Pulse 5 since it came out and I enjoy the light show immensely. Sadly, the sound is a bit short in WOWING me. I want to temper anyone's expectations on this device for the sound. If you are looking for portability and a tremendous light show, then this unit is truly exceptional. If you are hoping for great sound, I would say you will be happy, but not thrilled.
We got it home, tested it, mostly happy. Execellent sound quality, the lights are fun and bright. The issue, however, is there is no volume control on the speaker. And nothing that tells you that. Tried to hook it up to a record player that relies on the external speaker for volume control, as you might imagine, that leaves you with one volume only and the app doesn't help.
I had a Pulse 3 several years ago and loved it. It was broken by someone and then years later I bought a Pulse 4 and it was HORRIBLE. It was so ugly, poor design and awful sound quality. This time JBL really did an amazing job. The design is beautiful, the colors are amazing, the carrying strap is an excellent addition and I was shocked by the audio quality. MUCH better than expected. I have 2 JBL Boombox 2’s, a Charge 5, Xtreme 2 and a Clip. I love JBL Bluetooth speakers. They are by far the best in this category and I’m a huge audio snob. I’m already thinking of getting a second Pulse 5 and have them on the top shelf for the light show and linked to the boombox’s on the floor for the bass and loudness.Party at my house y’all!!
Good price, great quality, and fantastic light show options. Exhilarating colors and sound that amazes my coworkers. ‘Campfire’ is great for barbecues, and ‘Spiritual’ is my personal favorite for overall use and lava lamp aesthetic. True to its word on playtime length (12 hours). I love it.
I’ve done extensive research and watched many comparison videos and i ended up settling with the Pulse 5 vs the charge 5 and other models and brands. I’m so happy i ended up going with this product. It’s actually louder in person and does actually have a decent bass. The lights is in fact what we’re buying and i think the line up of setting for the lightsare good despite what the YouTubers say plus updates will always come out to add more later im sure. With the lights, you not only can blast some good music but you can set the tone for the vibe. $250 ish is a hefty price but ive bought more expensive things before for with less personal value, i do wish however that for this price we couldve gotten a better battery life.
this speaker sounds fine playing a wide variety of music. it's not heavy on the bass like some speakers. i would say it's well balanced. the reason this speaker is outstanding is the light show it puts on. the build quality is also top notch. the carry strap in particular feels really sturdy
