I gifted this top to my boyfriend to help keep him warm on his morning hunting excursions in the fall and winter. He is just discovering the value of high quality base layers and wanted to give merino wool a try. Though I had never tried Icebreaker products before, I learned about them while working at REI and really support the company's values. I have to say we are both sold on both the product quality and customer service of Icebreaker now! I don't think my boyfriend will ever go back to wearing cotton in cold weather and wants to buy another Icebreaker shirt and the long underwear bottoms too! I have owned 5 of these 260 Tech Long Sleev, 4 with half-zip used mainly for bike commuting and one without ziper (used as pijama shirt when traveling).This review is based on a replacement on one of those that is frayed and has several holes due to intense use and wear.The design has changed significantly, they even renamed the product and it has a new product page.The sweater is now: extremely tight fitting, has NO THUMB HOLES and thereby shorter sleeves, the zipper and therefore the part that covers some of the neck is much shorter.Also, although this is 260g/m2, it seemed to me much thinner than the other four I had purchased 3 years ago. The material is almost see through and it does NOT seem as robust as with all my previous purchases. The stitching looks now almost identically to the "everyday line", which is supposed to be the more budget line mainly due to rib fabric: EVERYDAY SHORT SLEEVE CREWE, 175 EVERYDAY LONG SLEEVE CREWE, 175 EVERYDAY LONG SLEEVE HALF ZIP . Still, material and functionality still are the best, I still use daily and fully recommend. Just be aware of what you are getting and the changes done to this model.

I have owned this garment for over 12 months, and practically wore it every day on 7 week European bike hiking trip, Washed it once a week in water. It never smeals. Can be wore in warmer weather, with sleeves up and zip open. Good sun protection also. I now where daily on mt cycling commute to work, warm in the depths of a Melbourne winter, with waterproof jacket on top. Top Value, I have purchased recently a second one. The first one is still in great condition, only understandably a little faded.

I was looking for a merino wool shirt that I could wear as a base layer under a sweater or vest during the chilly months. I have found from prior experiences that merino wool is the best fabric fir that and decided to try this Icebreaker model because it was stylish, the measurement guide was very useful for deciding which size to select ( really don't like having to return items) and the weight seemed to be what I was seeking. All that proved to be true. Even though it is said to be a close fit it isn't so close that I can't wear it without a cover piece and it is very soft against my skin and it is a true shade of black so it goes with everything. I'm looking forward to trying more items from Icebreaker.
I've had a black 260 half-zip for over 10 years and it is only now just starting to show it's age as it's fraying a little at the neck & the zip pull has snapped. It is however still fully functional after dozens of washes, no holes or stretching at all. Now my old friend has a new friend in the shape of a 'Clove' 260 half-zip and the comfort, fit and quality are still there, it's fantastic for walking, cycling or just sitting around at home, it is so breathable that I rarely need to take it off after excercise as it regulates the heat so well. I've been wearing Icebreaker for over a decade when I bought my first men's 320 Sport in chocolate brown (Bring back the brown!) in Portland Oregon. That piece still looks amazing today! I try to buy myself one nice piece of Icebreaker at least once a year, and I have to say this 260 Tech half zip is my new favorite piece! The weight is perfect, the weave is breathable, and yet still insulates very well while also being the softest piece of Icebreaker I've bought to date. I'm an Icebreaker fan for life but this piece really drives it home. Thanks for continuing to produce quality pieces for men that perform in and out of the weather.

The Icebreaker thermal base layer is exceptional. Its superior warmth and comfort set it apart from other brands. The front zip design is a brilliant feature, making it easy to put on and take off. The stylish design means you can wear it alone when heading outside. I even wear it when flying an airplane-it's incredibly smart and practical. Highly recommended!
I now have 2 of these thermal tops. My first I bought a few months ago for the winter cycle commute to work. I found myself using it so much, I decided to get a second to rotate use. Each can be used for at least couple of days without any problems with odour. Comfortable to wear, and I like the half zip to allow ventilation as needed.I find I can wear this under a waterproof outer shell for moderate cycling for an hour or more without getting cold. If I am less active, a micro fleece works well as a mid layer in addition.
Hi All, i've been using this pair of 260 Tech Merino base layers for about 7 years now. They lasted about 500 plus ski and hiking days in that time. They're soft, comfortable, durable and the quality is perfect. AND, they don't smell, even after all that time, haha. I've just bought my second set as I got a hole in the crutch and the collar got shredded by my neck stubble over the years. I'll keep using them for outside work in the cold though. Just bought the same product and hope I get another 7 years out of these ones. I highly recommend them. Worth every cent. Cheers, Marc
