I should've listened to the previous reviews. Be smarter than I was. Stay away from this slow laptop. Especially if you have to take timed courses or exams for school. This laptop worked well for Netflix and YouTube but once we tried to take an exam for school it took so long to load each page that I ended up timing out and failing the exam. Luckily my professor allowed me to retake once I showed him how slow my laptop was. This laptop is not good for anything other than single streaming videos and even then it lags and the audio doesn't sync with the video for the first minute or so. Do yourself a favor, do not buy this. We even had tech support run us through troubleshooting and changing settings but it didn't help. The return process has been a nightmare and I'm still waiting for a return label. They tell mento return to the nearest store which is 2 hours away from me and I'm not doing that. The returns policy says free returns, it doesn't specifiy only in-store return or I wouldn't have taken the chance on this laptop. Here I thought since it's walmart it would be easy to try it and return if unsatisfied but yet here I am still going back and forth with them to try and get a return completed. Though I think I may have to cut my losses and learn my lesson. 1. Trust the reviews. 2. Always verify return policy specifics. 3. Reconsider ever buying electronics from Walmart.

You get a few windows 11 perks and after opting out of S mode you're not handcuffed to windows approved apps only, but that (S)afe experience wasn't so bad initially. Me keeping it depends on how it continues to handle what I need it to do but I would be completely satisfied with it with 8g memory but so far doesn't seem to be a problem for what I'm doing with it.

For a Basic Computer, it is Golden

After keeping an eye on this computer for over two years, I could no longer resist the temptation to purchase it. I was not looking for a computer, but who can't afford something that is this inexpensive for a basic laptop? After seeing it in an actual Walmart store, I had to make it mine, but I had to order it online for dramatic effect. Ha, ha!This is an amazing little basic computer. I would NOT recommend it for gaming or stream timing your friends or whatever the camera video app is called, but I love it for its basic functionality, and how it works so nicely. It doesn't take much time to set up, it is easy to customize, I love that I could get it in silver, blue, or pink (I fell in love with pink). And for a laptop that, when I bought it, was under $200, there is nothing more that I could ask for in a laptop.By the way, I am a writer/author and I have Microsoft 365 and it does come with a 12 month trial subscription, but those are the main things about it that I love, and the Windows 11 is perfect timing (it does have Windows S Mode on it which is nothing terrible to take off from the computer completely).Everything works with this laptop, I love it so very much and am astounded at the price and how fast it was delivered-- I ordered it on a Sunday morning and it arrived by that Monday evening, which is seriously fast! No damage, no issues, it is a completely and totally well working computer, though I will admit that the battery does get sleepy a little too quickly for me, but it has a quick charge feature that it charges within an hour (for example, the battery was at 25%, I charged for about forty-five minutes and it was at 100% which will totally help when I need it right then and now).I love this computer so very much and I love the fact that I finally have it! For a basic computer, this really is a seriously amazing deal!

Was sold a faulty laptop

Bought this laptop for a Christmas present, was happy with the color and size of the laptop perfect for studying and such. To my surprise when it powered up it was extremely slow, took about 10 minutes to fully turn on. I was patient since it was brand new and I assumed just needed a longer start up. While setting up the computer everything was incredibly slow, opening up tabs took around 10 minutes to fully load, settings was also a pain. Keep in mind I have great wifi and have never had an issue like this. I looked up HP laptops running slow and all the searchs were regarding downloads and storage which in my case the laptop was brand new and nothing had been downloading and wasn't going to be. This computer was purchased for strictly studying and the occasional Netflix or Hulu search. Since this was a gift I recommended that I give it some time since the laptop was brand new, a few days/weeks in, same thing, laptop wouldn't load a single tab and was actually left one day for an hour to load YouTube, once it loaded no videos were able to be clicked. Considering the price of the laptop I knew it wasn't going to be top tier but it didn't have to be since it was only for studying. I sure did expect for it to at least work. Was extremely disappointed, and am now requesting a refund or exchange. Do not purchase.

[Rewarded Review] Excellent laptop, but heavy.
25 October 2024

This laptop provides top-level functionality. I have multiple memory-hogging programs installed and can have numerous windows open without conflict or lags. I have had no technical problems with this laptop other than getting a blue-screen of death every once in awhile, but I believe this is a software (namely, Windows 11) issue and not a laptop issue. The only negative thing I have to say about this laptop is that it is extraordinarily heavy. I would not purchase this laptop as a frequent traveler. However, the offset of this is that the screen is large and has excellent resolution.I did have problems with the graphics display for a long time, but found out it was due to a setting in the registry (firmware). Once this problem was discovered and resolved, the screen has been beautiful ever since.I have hooked this laptop up to a port replicator and am running four monitors from it with no problems (including a UHD widescreen). It works beautifully in this setup. So, overall, I have found this an excellent computer.

[Rewarded Review] Frustrating Features
10 October 2024

The laptop holds a charge for a long time however that is about the only good thing I have to say about it.The screen is dim no matter how bright the setting it, the screen catches light very oddly so you best not be using it near any bright-ish lights, it runs slow most of the time, it randomly closes out your Photos app if you have "too many" items in it, the idle screen settings are totally useless, you cannot run any sort of games that aren't on Google Play on this thing, and for the most annoying feature:There's no caps lock button. Instead there is a search button which I personally find totally useless when there are 2 separate areas to easily access the search function on the screen. If you tap the search button out of habit of tapping Caps Locks the whole thing freezes and you have to wait forever to close out the search function before continuing what you were doing.Overall it's a very frustrating laptop to use and I am still not used to it after 2 weeks. It honestly feels a bit useless. It's like using a bigger version of my phone since it doesn't have any features that are unique or different to the laptop itself.I would not recommend this laptop no matter what your planned usage of it is.

[Rewarded Review] PLEASANTLY surprise at the speed and capabilities!

This is my first Chromebook.I wasn't certain what to expect but although I've only had it a few days so far it's kinda blowing me away in a good way!I started with PC's in the late 1990's but when Windows 8 came out I HATED it and in those early days I was the early adopter of everything. After Win 8 I transitioned fully to the APPLE world. I'm "all in" with the Mac Mini desktop, iPhone, iPad now. I did intend to upgrade all of my apple items a few years ago but when the Apple moved from Intel to their own M chips, I waited. I don't do the "early adopter thing" anymore and like to wait until new tech is well tested and proven to be what they promise to be... This is why I still I have an OLD Macbook - first and only I purchased brand new. I only recently updated the other Apple stuff, and with my most recent upgraded iPad I'm using that more like a laptop. I wasn't really looking for another laptop since it's working well for me... and THEN with my focus on security this Chromebook is likely going to be the closest I get to an actual laptop for now. Cool that it's SOOOOO affordable!I'm proficient with both Windows and Apple platforms and as I understood Chromebooks, they're a stripped down device without storage...Wasn't sure what to expect - but in our world of hacking and security issues, I decided to give a CHROMEBOOK a try. I thought I would benefit from the WALL that a Chromebook provides for those everyday times that I do things innocently - things THESE DAYS that you have to reconsider, that might put me at risk for hacking.I've done a LOT of new protocols over the last couple of years, that include using ONE TIME USE apps for using my credit/debit cards, and have changed to encrypted emails and such.In reading about the superior built in protection of Chromebooks - added to the low entry price for buying one - I started to think that using this might add a good layer of protection to keep my more costly working devices safer and protected. With this device I've set up new email - from GMAIL since a CHROMEBOOK is a Google connected device plus an encrypted email too. I now can send email to myself if it is from someone I don't know - but that looks interesting - so that I don't risk opening them on my other devices.I mean, even AT&T and other large companies are reporting being hacked these days. You just can't be too careful. What is impressive is the Chrome Friendly apps that practically function like actual programs! This particular Chromebook also has a GOOD number of ports! 1) HDMI, 1) USB-C and 2) USB-A ports. It's lightweight and small. It has 4 CPU quad core (2 more than the Samsung) while the Samsung has a slightly larger screen, higher resolution and fewer CPU quad cores. Meh. I see the HP at so much less money, as the better choice right now. If it was reversed I'd have bought the Samsung and :) would have justified that purchase if it cost less.In doing a bit of light research I found that HP and Samsung were most recommended as "better Chromebooks" than some other brands. The deciding factor for me was - in this instance that while both - brand new - have a base price of $300 the HP was nearly half price while the Samsung only had $18 off at the time I was ready to buy. This chromebook is still new for me, but in the couple of days I've had it, I am - so far - loving the feel of it.These days with hackers just getting better and better I'm hoping that this gives me a tool I need to keep my information and my valued other devices more protected.I'll have to come back a few months later and update the review when I see how it works for me over time. It is looking GREAT so far!If you are considering it, go for it!I just ordered a translucent colored protective case for it too!

[Rewarded Review] Perfect as a second computer for professionals
26 January 2024

I am a musician and I have an iMac that handles the bulk of my work. Up until now, I’ve also had a MacBook Pro that I was wondering if I should upgrade for on-the-go work. Then I realized that most of my on-the-go work was light stuff: Emailing, keeping track of my expenses, things that could be handled on Google Drive that didn’t need a powerful laptop.I got this Chromebook on sale and it is absolutely perfect for what I use it for. Don’t believe that it’s just a budget model for students. It’s also a great supplemental machine for any creative looking for a portable machine. The remote functionality is also a great selling point for that as well. The battery is stellar. If I use this an hour or two a day, it’ll last me a week on one charge. The remote functionality is also a great selling point for that as well. The battery is stellar. If I use this an hour or two a day, it’ll last me a week on one charge. The screen, while nothing to write home about like Apple’s Retina display, is perfectly functional and I have no complaints. The keyboard feels great and is responsive and satisfying. It has a perfect amount of ports for a laptop: an HDMI port for easily using it with an external monitor or TV, a USB-C port that is how the charger connects, and two USB-A ports to connect anything else you could imagine. And don’t let anyone tell you that you need internet to use a Chromebook! As long as you plan ahead and make sure your documents are ready for offline use, you can work offline as often as you please! I’ve made use of this feature for about 50% of my usage. All in all, I highly recommend this laptop to the following groups of people:-Students who want to do schoolwork-Professionals who want a portable computer for clerical work-People who don’t really do all that much in their computer aside from Google Drive/Microsoft Office, emailing, watching videos, and web browsingAll in all, a very functional machine, and worth a lot more than I paid for it.

[Rewarded Review] Why is Microsoft trying to be Apple?
17 May 2024

So I don't know if we just got a dud or if Microsoft is really being that difficult, but we got our computer to get home tried to install the one bit of software that was the entire purpose of purchasing the computer and it wouldn't let us do it. I knew that I had to switch it out of s mode because s mode is what Microsoft's forces on every computer that they put out now which means you can't download anything unless it's a Microsoft application or software. The good news is there is a way to get rid of this, the bad news is it wouldn't let us do the steps to get rid of it. What you're supposed to be able to do is go into the Microsoft app store and download something from there that turns off s mode. What you're supposed to be able to do is go into the Microsoft app store and download something from there that turns off s mode. Which again is frustrating that you have to take the extra steps to download something else to get rid of something that you don't want they really need to make it a setting that you can just go into the settings of your computer and turn on and off. So we go to the app store to get the things so it can be turned off and it tells us we can't download that until we update the store except we can't update the store when the store is open but the only way to update the store is by pressing a button inside the store. After three adults tried to figure out how to make this work for hours, my husband finally took it back to Best Buy and told them if they can't get it to shut off we need our money back because it is absolutely worthless as a computer if we can't download software which was the entire reason we purchased it. They ended up keeping it overnight and supposedly they have fixed the issue so we'll see how it goes from there. I will definitely update this with lower Stars if the machine itself sucks but for now it's getting three stars simply because of s mode and all the trouble that we had to go through just for that.
