The Hoya 77mm HD UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.35% light transmission, eight layers of anti-reflection coatings are applied to both sides of the glass for a total of 16 layers of coating. These coatings offer a high degree of protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters. The coating formula associated with HD UV filters also promotes effective cleaning with regard to water, oil, and stains. Constructed from chemically-hardened optical glass, the Hoya 77mm HD UV Filter offers enhanced resistance to scratches while providing clarity and color fidelity. It also features a thin, lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting. This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Nice filter, bought as a lens protector.

I've always used Hoya UV filters, this was the first time I using the HD2. Over all very sharp, perfect outdoor shoots. The box it came in was a little beat up, it looked weathered and the stickers were pealing off the box. Considering the price I would expect better packaging or better handling of this product. However the filter wasn't damaged in anyway.

I just use it to keep dust out of the lens and possible scratches. Doesn't add any more weight or size to the lens and no image distortion. Best of all it's free with the lens purchase.p, thanks B&H.

A good product but I should have preferred a Hoya alternative which was not in stock when I needed a filter to protect a new lens.
The filter function and does not scrath easily. there is no color cast and I would buy this again.
I use this product primarily for lens protection but being able to filter out UV is also a plus in my book. Indispensable in my book and the minimal amount it effects quality of a photo is worth its weight in gold in lens protection in the harsh environments I travel into.
Great protection for my newly acquired 70-200 F2.8 VR-II lens. I have used it in the past on my other high quality professional lenses. Also a plus for filtering out UV, easy to keep clean, and will not scratch easy. I definitely would buy and highly recommend this product . . . !
Used primarily for lens protection and UV protection. Lightweight.
I used to use the UV lenses primaily to protect my expensive lenes. I purchased this new Hoya 77mm HD2 UV Filter along with the Canon 10 - 22 mm Lens and I am blown away at the difference between my older UV lenes and the Hoya HD2. This thing is so clear and anti-reflective, I want to touch it to make sure there is really glass in the frame. This filter is more expensive than the standard filters from Hoya or others, but when you put lesser quality glass in front of a $2000.00 L series lens you have effectively lowered the quality of the lens. I used to take the UV lenses off to shoot and replace them to protect the expensive lens; now I leave it on and shoot right thru it, Great Glass.
i always thought a filter was a filter until i put this one on, never again will i buy anouther tiffen.i was ready to buy a new lens and it was just my cheap tiffen filter, all i can say is amazing, unreal, the difference.
