I use this vacuum for my cleaning business and it has been absolutely perfect for just about every job. it's very light and the attachments make the vacuum convenient for just about any situation. plus if converts to a blower, making it useful for every type of clean. I have used other canister vacuums and this is absolutely the most durable and convertible vacuum with the best suction.

I didn't buy this at Walmart, but have owned several of this vac over the last 20 years. I'm a professional cleaner and was trained at Merry Maids many years ago. They used these vacs and I bought them for my business later on, and I still use it for my bare floors. It is the best vac I've ever used. I honestly don't know how people live without it. It's also remained the same price all these years. It is not good for carpet, though, only bare floors, furniture, surfaces, etc. Carpets need a spinning beater bar like most upright vacs have.

The plastic parts seem so cheap and I feel they will break very easily. The main head is so uncomfortable to use. I am 5’6” and the angle of the fitting, plus the angle that I need to held the hose do not add up. I tried to show in the photo, the angle of the fitting causes the head to tip forward so that it doesn’t rest flat on the floor. Very poor design. I have an 1100 sq foot home, and my back hurts from having to stoop so low, just to make the vacuum work. I think Hoover was counting on their brand name only to sell this one.
I love that it’s very light and easy to carry. Also love the long cord. Suction is great so far. I kind of don’t like the angle of the head and feel like I have to hold it a certain way (as in down) to keep suction. I can’t speak to durability yet but I’m pretty sure the lady I used to clean houses with used this same one and had had it for YEARS.
I bought this to use in home renovations, for finish cleaning and light duty remodeling cleanups. I like the lightweight design, you don’t even have to use the strap to hold it. I do wish the hose was a little more stretchable so you could set it down to use for small dust pickup jobs. The noise level is comfortable when using the cloth filter provided. I ordered the paper filter bags and a converter, and noticed a slight increase in noise. And the suction doesn’t seem to be as good with the paper bags. I like that it came with the tool kit. I just wish it came with a duffel bag that you could store the unit and all the attachments in. And maybe some kind of strap or harness that could hold the attachments, so you could easily change on the fly.
I really wanted to love this vacuum. It is beautifully designed, at least if you like a rugged, commercial aesthetic. Pieces click to together in a satisfying way, and the chrome gleams against the gray and orange color scheme. I really enjoyed putting it together. I enjoyed the fact that it is not as loud as my previous Hoover, and the children and cats did not flee the room in terror when I turned it on. However, when it came to using it on our hardwood floors, it did not perform. I felt like I was chasing the dirt around, rather than sucking it up. I had to put my hand over the nozzle to make sure that it really was functioning, and yes, if you place your hand right over the tube, you can feel suction. A moderate amount of suction. I had to put my hand over the nozzle to make sure that it really was functioning, and yes, if you place your hand right over the tube, you can feel suction. A moderate amount of suction. I found that if I swept really well ahead of time, it might pick up some of the stray leftover dirt. But forget about anything stuck in the cracks between the floorboards. If I didn't sweep really well, I was on my knees, picking up bits of tissue and stray threads that the vacuum had failed to suck up. With some experimentation, it became clear that the suction was not strong enough to spread over the floor cleaning tools with any effectiveness, and the best result was achieved with the crevice tool or the bare nozzle. Sweeping a 1 inch tube back and forth over the entire surface area of our small home would make vacuuming a long and dull task. Just so you know, if you are purchasing bags to use with this machine, you also need to purchase an adapter, another $10 or so. The adapter is just a funnel with a little rubber band type thing that you roll onto the neck of the bag. When you replace the bag, you are faced with the gaping maw of funnel as you fumble with the rubber band thingy. This wouldn't be a dealbreaker if the machine actually worked, but I was sort of unhappy that I would be faced with staring at/breathing the stuff I just vacuumed off the floor. The vacuum that I'm replacing is nothing fancy, just a 10 year old upright hoover, an unglamorous plasticky and clunky machine whose suction has seen better days. This new Hoover has weaker suction than the 10 year old Hoover. It's going back where it came from. I don't really understand how this product has such good reviews-- it doesn't seem like it would be very much help if you have any real dirt to clean. I don't feel like I have especially high expectations for a vacuum, but if this is the story with vacuums at this price range, I might have to double my budget and splurge on an entry level Miele. In fact, I just did.
The Hoover Portapower use to be the best vacuum ever made. It is no longer a commercial vacuum. The quality of this vacuum is maybe 1/10 of what it use to be. I have purchased over 200 of these and can take them apart blindfolded. There is very little suction. It's become so bad, I have returned 4 or the last 8 purchased. The door, cords, etc. are designed to give out so you have to replace. We really depend on this vacuum. It makes me sick how Hoover has destroyed it in hopes for more profit. The truth is, I would be willing to pay double for a quality, worry free vacuum, with a commercial motor and accessories that lasts 2-3 years. We are actively searching for a replacement vacuum. Hoover no longer cares about the customer. Sad.
Our Hoover Commercial Pro Canister Vacuum Cleaner is relatively light-weight, very portable, and has excellent suction. It cleans carpet and general spills extremely well! However, the design has several weak points. On previous models, the electrical cord could be stored by wrapping it around the vacuum itself. The cord now hangs heavily on one side in a large coil. Also, the cord is permanently attached to the vacuum and cannot be replaced. Poor design. In addition, the vacuum attachments are friction fit rather than mechanically engaging on the vacuum itself. The attachments occasionally work loose.
Owned: 1 month. If I could design my own vacuum, this would be close! I wanted a portable vacuum to make it easier to keep moving as I swept the entire house. I wanted a longer cord, metal attachments, good suction, and a floor brush for hardwood floors that did not rotate and spread the debris around instead of picking it up. Things I like include the long cord and that it's portable...pluses above an upright that continually tips over when I use the hose attachment. The attachment sections have metal knobs instead of plastic! I'm not sure how the plastic clips on the receiving end of those metals knobs will hold up but I'm happy that at least part of it is not plastic. Tools include a wide floor brush one with and one without small wheels for rolling. The ... MoreOwned: 1 month. If I could design my own vacuum, this would be close! Overall I like this vacuum. I currently have not used add'l bags, only the washable one that came with the vacuum. Full disclosure, I am hard on a vacuum. There are 3 messy teenage boys, 2 dogs, and a husband who works construction so a vacuum has to be durable for us. I need commercial strength but the flexibility for home cleaning. So far, so good.
