The W/D did help with the gastro issues, but nobody should keep a dog on this stuff long term. If you look at the ingredients you will see that the product is mostly fillers, poor carb sources, admittedly high in fibers, but not a real food item in the bunch. Then a ton of supplements. The company has a nerve charging these prices for a product which costs pennies to make. It just shows how lacking in nutritional knowledge the average vet is. It isn't their thing, but they should do a little research before exposing their patients to this garbage--and profiting from it.

My dogs loves the taste of it, but the kibble is too big. They made it a bit smaller recently I'm assuming so it can be for both large and small dogs, but the bag is MASSIVE. Doesn't matter that I have the most airtight container to keep it fresh for as long as possible, toward the end of the bag it just makes my dog sick because it's just too old. PLEASE sell smaller bags! The majority of dogs with liver issues are small dogs anyway. I don't understand why there's only one size bag. Smaller kibble would be nice too but I'd settle for a smaller bag.

Hillβs has changed the formula and replaced the Liver Care l/d pork flavor with chicken without warning customers they were doing so. The bar code and all digital identifiers for both the pork and chicken are identical. We didnβt discover the change until our Black Lab threw up 5 times in a 24 hour period. Prescription food being changed without notice is potentially dangerous for the patient animal. The actions of Hillβs Prescription Diet are inexcusable and need to be addressed before lawsuits start.

My yorkie was born with a congenital liver shunt that required an intense surgery and a strict diet to help him function properly. We were started in the wet Pet ld and it helped my dog get back to his normal spunky self! Only bad side was he had very bad tarter buildup on the inside and outside of his gum lines so I decided to switch to the dry. Problem is the kibble is too big, he doesn't eat half as much as what is written on the guidelines. I have to cut it into pieces to get him to eat a quarter of his bowl. I weened him gradually, mixed wet and dry and still no luck. I fixed the liver problem with an expensive surgery... and now I could run into gum disease. It would be awesome if you could make smaller kibble.
Hill's Prescription Diet. Please change back the flavor from chicken back to pork. I ordered pork flavor and received chicken flavor while Hill's is in transition of changing flavor. My dog loves the pork flavor but does not like the chicken flavor and hasn't been eating much at all. The problem is that's the only choice available for the liver diet. Now I have to look for another brand so my dog will not be starving.
My 11 yr old lab mix started having elevated liver levels (doubling every month). Vet (Lexington Animal Hospital) put him on Hills Liver Support AND we started feeding him only bottled water (copper pipes may have been a contaminate). After 1 month his levels DROPPED from 623 to 180! Also stopped feeding him any treats with COPPER additives. So thankful for this dog food product and for the vets recommendation!
My senior chihuahua has had increasing liver enzymes, so the vet recommended this food. She really likes it, but it's too soon to tell if it's working. I wish it came in smaller bags for a lower price.
We have a Sheltie who has Wilson's disease and needs to eat a food with no added copper. This is a very active healthy looking dog who was diagnosed based on an incidental liver biopsy performed during an elective surgery to remove his gallbladder due to mucocele formation. He recovered quickly from the surgery and was eating with his normal voracious appetite. Two months later after running the liver biopsy samples twice, we switched him to this food. This is a dog who eats (inhales!) any food or treat offered, period. The first two feedings he slowly ate part of this food then refused to eat for a day and a half after which, I gave him a small about of his old food. He inhaled it and I knew it was not an appetite issue. Later that day I fed him a mix of 10 kibbles ...Β MoreWe have a Sheltie who has Wilson's disease and needs to eat a food with no added copper. He inhaled it and I knew it was not an appetite issue. Later that day I fed him a mix of 10 kibbles old food and 20 kibbles Hill's. He meticulously ate the 10 kibbles of the old food and left all 20 of the Hill's. So this product did not work at all for our dog.
I have a Cairn Terrier who I have taken to 4 vets and a veterinary school for diagnosis. He has an unquenchable thirst no matter how much water he was given, he would wake me every 1 1/2-2 hours all night to take him out, was restless and constantly poking me and anyone with his nose to get him more water. Diagnosis of diabetes and Cushings Disease have been ruled out by his tests and it may be a shunt. Exploratory surgery is financially prohibitive so my vet suggested Hills l/d. It was expensive (though when I divided the cost by the number of weeks a bag lasts him, it turns out to be less costly than what I was feeding him ! ), BUT, after one week on this dog food his demeanor changed. He still will drink as much water as I put down for him, but he sleeps all ...Β MoreI have a Cairn Terrier who I have taken to 4 vets and a veterinary school for diagnosis. He still will drink as much water as I put down for him, but he sleeps all night, his personality is calmer, he was skeletal before even though he ate well - now he has put on weight and looks like a healthy dog. So, the old adage is true, "you are what you eat". I was feeding him a very good, expensive dog food before but this is so tailored to what his little body needs. I can't say enough about this product, Thank you.
This is one pricey dog food. If my dog doesn't require the special diet and my veterinarian doesn't prescribed it, I will not buy it. This food has a lot more fat content than my regular food and leaves a film of grease in the bowl. The kibbles size is little bit bigger and it doesn't crumble as much as my regular food. Worst of all, Petco store doesn't stock them, it can be a problem if you ran out of food and need to wait about a week for shipment.
