Faulty product, don't buy

The speakers keep disconnecting from google home, you need to reset them and do the whole configuration from scratch, this takes a couple minutes. Now imagine you have to do it every day.... useless product. Not to mention that the volume sometimes goes all the way up by itself in the middle of the night, and yes - it does make sound as it increases volume... so you get free random wake up service as part of the deal. The sound is really good though... but the isssues render the product useless, judging by comments on the internet, the issues is pretty common.

I purchased two Citation 100s when they were recently on sale with the goal of using them as a stereo pair in my garage home gym. Currently most of my house is connected with various google home mini speakers and sonos speakers to allow for whole home audio. However I was looking for something that might get a little louder in the garage with it being a larger space and often having fans running, so I thought I would give the Citations a try. Setup was fairly straightforward with the google home app and connecting them to my network. I also paired them to my firestick via bluetooth so that I could listen to the TV through the speakers as well. Pros: 1 - In stereo pair the speakers sound great 2 - Having google assistant is handy for changing the music or getting other information handsfree 3 - The speakers have plenty of volume to fill the space 4 - The overall look (from a distance is nice) Cons: 1 - There is no EQ adjustment option and I find that the bass can actually be too boomy and overpower the rest of the music on some tracks 2 - The controls on the top of the speaker are not very sensitive so I end up using my phone instead 3 - I did experience occasional (limited) issues with the speakers not being fully in sync in stereo pair. 4 - There is noticeable lag in the bluetooth connection, so watching TV connected via bluetooth doesn't really work at all Overall, I will be keeping these speakers as they do sound good most of the time, unless you have bass heavy track. I do like having the ability to control them with google assistant. I do think my sonos play 1s have a slightly better sound profile (clearer) than the Citations. If they added the ability to adjust the EQ maybe these could compete better.

Great Sound - Poor Connectivity

I'll start off by saying: The speaker has EXCELLENT sound. Good bass -- Clean audio -- Overall a very pleasing speaker. The one issue is the connectivity. I understand this is not a top-of-the-line speaker, but the issues with connectivity are HORRENDOUS for any room speaker. It will cut sound sporadically. It will produce a static-like noise from time to time. I've tried to have this fixed, but I can't seem to find a permanent solution to the issues. I've also had to mute the speaker since the voice assist will randomly cue in the middle of the night. I think this is just an issue of 'growing pains' with the early model Google Assist products. 3/5 Stars

Great addition to the multibeam
14 February 2022

I recently purchased the Citation multibeam 700 from Richer Sounds - a great bar and quite easy to use (unlike last years purchase of a sonos but that nightmare is another story). Richer Sounds in Leeds were of course really helpful in allowing me to listen to the bar first and make sure I made the right choice. I was then fortunate to source some open box surrounds recently from Richer Sounds and I am glad I did. They look good, pair up very easily and work well and unlike the sonos there hasn't been any issues of being out of sync with everything, taking 2 or 3 minutes to connect or cutting in and out. I just switch the speakers on at the wall when I want them on and that's it! They lack a little punch but that is more than made up for by the clarity of the sound ... MoreI recently purchased the Citation multibeam 700 from Richer Sounds - a great bar and quite easy to use (unlike last years purchase of a sonos but that nightmare is another story). I would indeed recommend.

Great wireless google assistant speakers
19 May 2021

I own 5.1 setup that includes Bar, Towers, Sub and Surround. My overall feedback is 4/5 but I wanted to provide extended review as I was struggling to find more information when making a decision. Unique killer feature: google assisstant enaled premium speakers that easily switch between movies & music and does NOT need any of expensive receivers, amps etc etc.. I'm soo hapy to just say "hey google play jazz" and don't worry about remotes, cables, buttons etc. and enjoy premium sound! (I do have ton of other google speakers to compare). Favorite aspect: design! I just admire architectural design style, even when I don't listen to music, I can just sip my coffee staring at this setup and admiring how it nicely enhances(!) modern interior. Favorite aspect: design! I just admire architectural design style, even when I don't listen to music, I can just sip my coffee staring at this setup and admiring how it nicely enhances(!) modern interior. The look is 1000% better than Sonos or similar brands. What I hate: 1) actual google assistant implementation. Technically speaking they use older version of assistant SDK and it doesn't provide as much of features and control from Home app comparing to other devices. Also, I believe voice commands are also more limited on older versions, such as you can't do conversation that google recently added. That said, smart implementation is better than in Sonos where you need extra app and limited to what it can offer. These guys use regular Google Home app and thus have full integration. 2) The worst part by far is that once you connect sound bar to Towers and play anything you NO LONGER can speak to this speakers! they mute themselves and pressing un-mute changes nothing! I spent long time with support and was explained that this is a forced prioritization, if TV or Music is on, then to avoid interference you can no longer do voice-control. Which diminishes 90% of google assistant feature! Whoever decided this is good - pleease change your mind! "hey google volume down/ next track / play XYZ/ dim the lights / etc" no longer possible if speakers playing anything! 3) inactive screen & mics on Towers - as soon as you pair them with Bar, the screen and microphones no longer active. Again, support confirmed that it is by design. I can't understand why would you spent on display and mics and disable them right away, instead of creating better experience. Screen on the Bar when mounted to the wall under TV is not as easy to reach and view comparing to Towers. Workaround - place regular google speaker somewhere around and it will listen when Harman won't :) yes, workaround on premium speakers… 4) Long turning-on time. I have modern mid level android TV which turns on in seconds and resumes playing video/music. I hear no sound for about 20-30 seconds until Harman initializes itself. For guests it's frustrating to a part that they often call me saying my audio isn't working. TV instead would sometimes assume not responsive HDMI-ARC device and switch automatically to TV speakers. 5) Initial setup & software updates - my speakers arrived with old firmware on Bar and immediately out of the box I couldn't even pair Towers. Long story short, as IT guy it took me few ours to figure out sequence of total of 4-5 software updates before everything was setup. I must admit that after that, updates are awesome and happen overnight and you don't even notice. Bar will update all connected speakers as well. Sound quality: Well it's always subjective. However, with WiSA wireless speakers you do sacrifice sound quality comparing to similarly priced passive speakers because each wireless speaker has to have built-in amplifier, which to reduce costs would perform much worse than stand-alone high-and amp + premium wires + passive speakers. I actually admire wireless comfort and absence of complicated amp and ready to sacrifice sound quality. But, sound is still premium and I like it. Initial price tag would be ~$6-7k for 5.1 setup - system does NOT sound to this price, but with sale price of half of that sound does meet the price! Towers are the best part of system! They do have 8" sub built into each, but it is not as prominent as a standalone sub. Like it definitely adds low end but does not shake things. Standalone Sub is a game changer, I started w/o it and it really felt like system lacks something and wasn't as impressive. Sub is a must have no matter what other components you decide to get. Sub – I’m a previous user of JBL which is known for overachieving & contrast sub performances, thus after JBL it just doesn’t do enough boom-boom to me, but it does blends perfectly into overall sound experience, like I can’t really distinguish sub from overall sound scene. Also, sub doesn’t perform well at lower volumes (I guess none of subs do). I also like that quality is still very good at low volume. I often listen to quite music not to wake up my kids and under 10% volume jazz & movies sounds great. If you fan of rock music, it won’t move air around you with each guitar sound and not really focused on rock, but again AC/DC sounds good at higher volumes. My subjective impression they sound better than Sonos. I only wish you could pair two subs! (you can't with this system). Also I was impressed with size of surround speakers, they look tiny on pictures, but actually quite big (like 2-3x hand palm size). SO overall, yes sound is great, but not impressive and could be better. I personally didn't find better options in this price range with google assistant and better sound. Especially if you can pick it on sale or even refurbished. Confusing parts: - Sound modes. Bar has 'surround' and 'night' modes, and I have no clue what they do. Instructions are minimalistic to a degree that you can't learn basics (including previously mentioned updates & initial setup). It also has news, music, movie and other EQ presets which you can't see the actual EQ settings for, so you have to guess which one you like more. I wish they auto switched between music & movie based on what is on. - Short Surround speakers power cords. They provide you with similarly short power cord and there is no way it will be enough for individually placed satellite speakers. I wish they included 10x the length. - Towers arrive on pallet via freight due to size and weight. That's sorta exciting at first, but also confusing because of much longer shipping time and what do I do with pallet? (I know lumber crisis right!) Summary - I do recommend these speakers if you get them on sale and if you look for google assistant enabled wireless setup. Otherwise, you'll do better with more generally focused speakers & amp. I really hope Harman product manager reads this and finds a way to address concerns from this review :) and thanks for bringing this product line to market!

Growing Pains But Great Speakers

Two weeks ago when I first got these I would have gave them one star I had problems connecting and staying connected on my network. After about 4 days of trying and looking all over the internet for solutions I finally decided to add more mesh pods to my network. The difference is night and day these need a strong Wi-Fi connection that never drops that's not spotty and is consistent. I now have six mesh pods in my house. I bought four citation 100s already had four citation ONEs. I no longer have the connection issues it went from four or five disconnection a day to none. They sound great some say there's too much bass I disagree especially if you don't keep them on the floor I have them on 36 inch speaker stands and I think there isn't enough base but if I put them ... MoreTwo weeks ago when I first got these I would have gave them one star I had problems connecting and staying connected on my network. Other than that these are some great speakers and what I would recommend them to anyone. One more thing a lot of people on the internet have been complaining about not being able to update the speakers. I have that problem with two out of the four speakers but if you keep resetting them available eventually update on their own during the setup process. I may have had to reset each one four times but eventually they were good. I really like the speakers and love the sound.

I absolutely love it!!
22 October 2021

It’s a recent purchase for me. I managed to get it cheaper than in most stores in Spain. For the price that I’ve purchased it, the quality, the finish, everything is marvelous. I wouldn’t ever find anything even a bit better than that. The sound is pure, clear, full with beautiful bass. It’s very good for orchestra and piano music, but also for other types. I am listening a lot to classical, and it’s a real audiophile quality sound. It can be very loud if you put it on max. I am looking forward to set it up in stereo with the second that I’ve bought as a gift to my husband. It will be a true sound blast! Amongst all of that, it has really beautiful and simple design fitting all of the places I can imagine.

Which will basically cause the router to stop processing this , which will result in connection drops for the speakers." "In my experience the biggest issue with the routers that you get for free from your internet provider, like the Experia Box V10, The connect box ( ziggo ) and the Fritzbox , are not able to handle this amount of information quick enough. Which basically means that the information has to wait before it's processed, and starts dropping. Which can cause disconnects, because the connection packages are also dropping at that point. This can be compared to a free way, with a traffic jam. At one point , there is no more room for more cars. Until the previous ones are processed ( or gone ). Unfortunately we see this multiple times a day with both the Omni' s and the Citation speakers" "My personal rule of thumb is that a 200 + euro router will be good enough, but even then i can't be 100 % sure. Because of mesh for example. But that said i personally have good experiences with the previous mentioned routers, in combination with both my own Omni , and Citation speakers. "

Needs a couple things changed
1 November 2022

I wish the Google assistant would stay activated when watching TV and listening to music. Also, there needs to be a dialogue enhancement mode. One of the main reasons I bought the sound bar was to be able to hear dialogue better and unfortunately the sound bar doesn't help in this category. I wish someone would tell me if the small surround speakers could also be used in the front right and front left. I have 2 surrounds in the back and called customer service to see if I could buy 2 more for the front and they were wishy washy on the answer. I also would like to figure out if other wisa speakers would be compatible with the system?

Overly complex without "simple" mode use or set up

Picked up this bar on a close-out simply for the price and HK name going on idea that it's sound would be great given Audio name. My overall impression is sound is great but while HK built in nice feature such as Google Assistant, I wouldn't recommend it for someone wanting a basic sound bar for the bulk of it's use. The unit is very stylish and appears well built with a very nice finish/materials. One has to download an app to fire it up. If you want Google assist or use the built in options a lot, great ... but I picked this up primarily for TV sound, perhaps for streaming movie sound when not using a 7.1 surround sound system. However setting it up as just a soundbar is painful and a time waste. However setting it up as just a soundbar is painful and a time waste. Having to load an app just to get the thing to function seems simply another OEM wishing to gather data on usage. I will say I didn't try hard to not use the app, but the bar simply didn't care to function without using the app. Sad one can't just plug and play. One other observation is basic use. I will suspect I can configure the bar's default to turn off but the thing just insists on turning on whenever any signal is present from my TV. I can turn down the volume and ignore it, but if I turn it off, it fires back up after a min. It seems HK fails on energy star thinking which from my perspective should be a default. I'll additionally note that a user may need to eq the bass down, maybe I'm overly sensitive to base but the unit to me is excessively bassy and the unit at low volume appears to up the base profile. This is minor but my observation. Overall as noted, my opinion is the unit is not what I'd call as a top pick even if you plan to use it as your primarily stereo stream for not only television but audio. Perhaps HK will option up a simple set up without need of an App. While this is my personal opinion, it just seems every new product requires you to download an app that might aid in keeping updates in check, also seems a personal data/usage grab even if aggregated. OEMs seem to seek new profit centers via apps and whether HK uses the app for this or not, I don't know, I just don't care that one has no option not to use an app.
