This is a beauty. I had some doubts ordering but relied on the Gretch name and AMS has always treated me right. With their payment plans it makes it easy. I really fell in love with this one. Setup was perfect sounds great acoustically and thru the amp. The only prob was the end pin came unscrewed but it was in the box. I screwed it back on and its good as gold. Thanks AMS and Gretch for my new love!!

I bought a used one but it was so much like new I couldn't tell the difference. Looks great, Plays Great, Sounds great. Easy to play. Each note rings out with crystal clarity. I am well pleased with this guitar. I highly recommend this guitar. Buy one today, you'll be so glad you did.

Overall:zZounds is the place to buy from. Absolutely the best price in town (or out for that matter). I was a little shook when the guitar arrived via FedEx. The cardboard packaging looked like it had been severely abused. The factory packing was minimal at best. The guitar itself, however, is spotless. The playability was lacking out of the box. I took it to my Luthier within a couple days and he dramatically lowered the action. I'm still not overly pleased with the action and may go with lighter gauge, flatwound strings. People should be aware of the fact that regular electric guitar amplifiers will not do well with this guitar. An acoustic amp or PA is desirable. For such a large guitar, I don't see the volume unplugged. The built in tuner is a definite plus. ... MoreOverall:zZounds is the place to buy from. The strap attachment at the neck caused the guitar to not fit in the Jumbo case I bought, but that was an easy fix by crushing the padding with a small wood clamp for a few minutes. I'd say that for the price, this guitar is an excellent buy. Everyone who sees it, compliments it. I did not required manufacturer support.

I bought this while visiting NYC in October 2021. Andy helped me choose the perfect guitar for my needs and made a very compelling argument for this Gretsch, without slapping me with all the needless upselling nonsense you get at other stores. It was two musicians talking, not a musician and a salesman. And I absolutely loved that.I normally play electrics, Les Pauls in particular, so this really is JUMBO. It's a very large guitar. You'll struggle fitting it into a universal jumbo case. But that size is accompanied by an incredible, crisp sound that easily rivals any $1500 acoustic I've played. Don't let the price tag fool you into thinking this is a cheap guitar. It's anything but. Gretsch builds quality gear regardless of where the factory is located.
As always, Gretsch guitars are great. This one is no exception. Plays really well, the pickup works great, and the built-in tuner doesn't hurt either. Fit and finish are gorgeous as always. It's a Gretsch. Expect goodness!
I use this guitar professionally and for fun. I have owned mine for 6 years without a problem. Dependable. Good tone and timbre for band settings. What I really like about this guitar along with the electronics is it is very easy to do professional setups as needed. Where I live, travel and play the climate is very dynamic. 90 degrees and very humid to -30 degrees and dry as a desert. Tweaking the setup and intonation is simple and fast. I used to be strictly a Taylor guy. I found this guitar to be everything I need and at the price point "disposable" so to speak. Mine has hundreds of gigs on it. It still looks new and plays like a dream.
I own lots of high-end gear, but I've never taken the time to write a review. That alone should tell you something. For the money -- the Gretsch Ranger (G5022CE) is hard to beat! I've never played a vintage example of the Gretsch Rancher 6022, but judging by the original design -- this Indonesian-made acoustic is vastly superior (though it pains me to say so).You get a solid spruce top (imperative for a rich sound), a nice Fishman Isys preamp, and tuners (Grover?) that really keep the guitar in tune. I was shocked at how well this guitar sounded one I'd made one little tweak (see below)!
This guitar is awesome. I was surprised how easy it is to play. Has great depth to it. Nice deep tone. Feels good in my arms. Frets well. Nice reach on the higher frets. The only downside about it is the triangle shaped sound hole. I can't use my fuzz buster due to the odd shape. I haven't played it on stage yet but that may cause feedback problems. On another note. I knew all this before buying it and was willing to take the chance. Sweet buy and glad I bought it. PS, the case is super nice too.
I returned the first one because of severe belly bulge that made it unplayable. Musicians Friend send me a 2nd one which I'm quite sure was the first one they sent which I suspect was returned by another customer for the same reason. The OK card had not been signed by an inspector nor were any of the categories checked. Not sure who was supposed to do a quality check Gretsch/Fender or Musicians Friend. The tone was decent and the guitar was pretty.I was disappointed because others have raved about the Gretsch Rancher. This one was made in Indonesia. My guess is that this guitar was made in a hot and humid factory or during shipping or storage it got hot and that is why the top was warped. When I went to return the first defective one the phone jockey tried to ... MoreI returned the first one because of severe belly bulge that made it unplayable. My guess is that this guitar was made in a hot and humid factory or during shipping or storage it got hot and that is why the top was warped. When I went to return the first defective one the phone jockey tried to sell me one of those bogus warranties. Hey guys you just sent me a defect product why not throw in a set of strings as a way of saying sorry? This guitar was sent to me as a gift from someone who owns a Gretsch Rancher and loves it. I can't say if I just got a lemon or the quality control has gone downthe tubes at Gretsch but I think the best thing to say is.. NEVER BUY A GUITAR SIGHT UNSEEN! You are asking for trouble if you do. I read online that the ones made in Indonesia have scalloped bracing or a different bracing pattern (not sure if that's the case) but IMO that is a cause of warped tops.
Just a little set up needed out of the box to be just right. Replaced strings with light gauge customs from Stringjoy. Love the tone, from lows to highs. Playing up the neck is really nice with this one, the neck is perfect for my finger picking style & the action is quite good. I noticed NO X-bracing in back, found that kind of odd, tho it's veneer & not solid. Under the compensated saddle bridge sits a cable for the pick up - found that odd also. Bridge could use a very light sanding. Personally, I don't care at all for the onboard tuner. I only get a reading 1 out of 5 to 7 times hitting the string, ended up using my other tuner.Didn't want an off-brand case, & didn't want pay the $$ for a good one so I made one since I had the material. It's 1/2" baltic birch sides, 1/4" birch front/back, covered with vinyl. Case weighs 19lbs, very light for what it is - a small coffin.VERY happy with this G5022 so far. I do plan to replace the pins & saddle bridge. The tuners are good, not great - but they'll do fine. Stringjoy strings stay in tune extremely well for me.The complaint about the back strap button is not an issue, as mine is independent of where the jack is. From reviews, that button was too large because that was also the cable jack.It is a little concerning to me how the cable goes right where that edge of the guitar sits near the chair when I'm sitting back in my recliner playing with headphones on.Amplified: sound is good, tone is still bit bright for my taste, but I haven't adjusted any settings on amp yet. Through the headphones it sounds amazing.I get a bit more pronounced bass "thump" when playing Chet Atkins style, which is good, but it's going to take a little time for me to get used to the body size & using my palm to deaden the top 3 strings just right.Fit & finish is really top-notch & quite impressive. I looked over every inch very carefully & am impressed with the build quality. For the $$, the finish is VERY good.Built a portable folding stand to match the coffin case. Both are good conversation pieces, but the guitar still steals the spotlight.
