Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.

I've been eyeballing this guitar for quit sometime in the GC website. Unfortunately, the local GC never had it in stock in their store. I asked the local GC store manger if he can check the other GC stores if they have one available. Fortunately he found a GC store that just received one. So, I drove 2 hours to the GC that had one. Arrived at the GC, walked in and long and behold, there it was on the very top display rack. I asked one of the GC sales rep if I can try it out, he replied that the store just received the guitar and that I'd be the first one to play it. Played it for 30mins, I love the feel of the 60's slim tapered neck and the sound of the Burstbucker pick-ups. I end up taking her home!

Gibson's Back
11 October 2021

Overall:For too long, manufacturers have strayed away from the things that made them great in the first place. It was no difference for Gibson, with their fascination for robot tuners, and other tweaks, aimed at making their classics "better," they strayed from the things that made them great. Well, they're back! I just purchased this guitar and I must say that it is fantastic, right out-of-the-box! It sounds awesome, it plays great, and the finish is outstanding! My only criticisms, and they are pretty minor, is that they have opted for a machine head, far inferior to the original. It functions okay, but it is not a smooth as the original and frankly, feels cheap and the cord doesn't feel like it locks into the jack as securely as in the past. These are fairly nit-picky things and certainly not enough to stop me from recommending the guitar but rather, little nuances that could easily be improved by Gibson with little impact to the cost of the product.

Great Guitar
28 August 2023

I bought this after watching "The Collection" on youtube with Slash. They kept opening up LP cases and I lost my mind. It's my first LP Standard ever. Finish is heaven, neck is that nice meaty 50s profile. Frets and rosewood took some getting used to coming off of jumbos on my other guitars. The guitar I got is a little heavy, but I don't have a scale to give exact weight. No pick guard in the case like some videos showed, but I wouldn't use it anyway. The knobs sit high off of the top which looks funny, but I'm leaving it as is. Overall I'm very happy with this guitar. One area that could be better is in the binding. There's minor imperfections, but nothing that would bring me off of 5 stars.

Great guitar
25 January 2023

I have ebony version of 50’s standard.Guitar is immaculate, there is nothing that points to the horror stories of Gibson QC. Frets are perfectly leveled, action is very low., nut properly cut, pain and binding as it should be.Neck profile is perfect, thick but not the famous baseball bat. Not extremely thicker than the neck on my Fender AO60 Strat.Pickups are versatile and can cover a lot of genres. Maybe more Bonamassa than super high gain but still very versatile.Yes, these days they are a bit on the heavier side if comparing to the all kinds of chambered bodies Gibson used to deliver but unless it is close to boat anchor weight, which is for me 4,5kg and above it is well worth.I would buy again if the quality remains the same.

Is Gibson Back?
11 March 2022

I love this guitar, its my first LP and my first guitar with p90s but my fourth Gibson. The Gibsons I bought in the mid 2000s were frankly disappointing but this and the one prior (a red figured-top 335) are excellent. I was looking for something that could give me the clarity of my Strat with the warmth of my 335. I'm still not used to this new world of buying guitars from the internet (in my youth many hours were wasted not-buying but playing guitars at Guitar Center and elsewhere). Anyway this LP didn't disappoint, the fit and finish are good although not perfect I can see on the back areas that needed to be sanded a bit better before lacquer (but you have to look and want to see the imperfections). The top is flawless, the neck might be my favorite neck on any guitar I own (I've heard it tracks the 54' neck), the pots work linearly and smoothly and are connected by the orange drop caps, the pickups are amazing. The P90s do exactly what I hoped they would, move from warm cleans to crunch. Tons of harmonics, touch sensitive like my strat but with a fuller top end. People complain about the 60cycle hum and it is present but not much worse than my humbucker guitars. Ive also heard people complain that the bridge pickup lacks power, I found it was slightly anemic, however I adjusted the pickup height and the problem was solved (yes you can adjust p90 pickup height). if you have read this far you know what you want. If you can swing the money go for it you won't be disappointed

Les Paul Standard 60s Figured Top

I have owned many Les Paul is the past but I have never owned a standard model. I ordered the Ice Tea version, and the color is gorgeous. Fit and finish on the guitar are first rate. The neck to me feels more towards a medium thickness not thin as I was expecting. Frets are polished nicely, the guitar is such a pleasure to play. The pickups on the 60s standard are a littler hotter than on the 50s standard. The weight on my guitar is under 9 pounds and to me almost feels like a chambered body, due to the lighter weight being that it is a solid body. The case was also high quality, with strong latches and great padded protection, and also smells nice. The case is no longer a TKL case and is made in Costa Rica, but don't let that discourage you. My Dream Guitar
18 August 2023

Back in the early 80s I bought my first guitar, a '68 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. I knew that my "dream" guitar collection was a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty and a 60s Gibson Les Paul Standard in a sunburst other than the cherry sunburst that EVERYONE had. I stopped playing for 34+ years after joining special operations. I decided early this year that I wanted and needed to start playing again as therapy in addition to enjoyment. I had stupidly sold my '68 Custom when I joined the military. I couldn't afford a new Gibson Les Paul Custom Ebony living on a military disability pension. So I bought a new Epiphone Les Paul Custom Ebony a few months ago. It's a very nice guitar. But I still wanted that 60s Les Paul Standard. I purchased the 60s Les Paul Standard in the awesome Bourbon Burst color. It has that wonderful 60s SlimTaper neck PLUS Gibson Pleks the neck as part of the manufacturing process. My Bourbon Burst isn't just my dream guitar, but that SlimTaper neck that was Pleked at the factory, it PLAYS LIKE A DREAM GUITAR. I absolutely love this guitar. I am so thankful to Michael Saulnier and Sweetwater for making a dream come true.

The Industry Standard Doesn't Disappoint

I pondered this purchase for a while, I was debating between the LP and a Heritage. The GC special financing sealed the deal. This thing is everything I imagined an LP to be. It plays even better than my Fender. There was a small imperfection on headstock where debris was caught between coats of nitro and the sprayer missed it. No problem though; the rest of the guitar is flawless. I just want to stare at it.I refuse to let this be a case queen, so I play it a lot. Why buy a guitar and not play it? It's easier on my hands than my American strat, thanks to its 12" radius fingerboard. The Fender has a 9.5" one, so the strings play closer together than the LP. The bridge pickup sounds awesome, but I haven't quite found the best amp setting for the neck. It can't ... MoreI pondered this purchase for a while, I was debating between the LP and a Heritage. The bridge pickup sounds awesome, but I haven't quite found the best amp setting for the neck. It can't match my Fender as far as bell-like clarity, but I have ZERO hum with my LP.I went through it with a fine tooth comb and everything was set up from the factory perfectly. The case was missing the keys and multi-tool, but Gibson sent them to me very quickly after I contacted them. I'm still not used to the tuners, which use a very low ratio. That means if you blow on them either way, you'll go sharp or flat. I really just love this work of art and just marvel at how there are no exaggerations on other reviews as far as these being quality instruments. I can't say anything else about them that hasn't been said, but had to weigh in.
