Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife - Black

As a knife it is so so.... Because it is amazing rescue tool. It is what it was made for.... rescue. From car, plane, helicopter. Knife is really thick. It is more like sharpen pry bar than a knife. It does cut things but because it's thickness it doesn't do great job for food prep. It has really strong blade that most likely won't brake! Strong tip as well. Easy to sharpen but does hold it's edge not bad.I have it in my car as a rescue tool. Also use it for car camping. When I hike I have thiner and plain edge knife with me. But I do bring this knife with me if I do anything extreme or need to be positive that I won't lost it due to amazing and secure sheath.Also use as a hammer to pitch my tent.Overall I found myself using this knife more than any other I ... MoreAs a knife it is so so.... Great Knife, the sheath is surprisingly very well made. The Knife is not only extremely sharp, as well the blade/ handle can be utilized with different grips/ applications ie. adapted for spear use. or other combat/usage applications . A great product with service and usability incorporated..

After doing research on the web and reading the many reviews and comments on various forums and seeing the videos, this was the knife I decided on as the ultimate urban survival knife.First of all, there are many reviews that discredit this knife in favor of the Ka Bar BK2 as a better survival knife, with a full tang, which may be better for wood crafting. Perhaps an axe would be even better than a BK2 for wood processing and to say the LMF2 is a poor knife for some thing it was not designed for is not a valid comparison.That said, the LMF2 was designed for a very specific purpose for the U.S. Military and it does meet the requirements exceptionally well. It is very well made and well balanced in the hand with a very grippy handle. The serrated blade is very useful and I much prefer it to a standard plain edge. The serration gives a cutting surface that can handle much more variety of materials than just a standard straight edge.The sheath that came with this knife is also well thought out with two leg straps included. There is a replaceable knife sharpener for field use and enhances the total value of this package. All the stitching are strong and solid and the buckles used on the straps to hold down the handle are also very effective and much better than the Velcro that are used in other sheaths. The knife handle snaps into place with the retaining mechanism on the sheath and is held within the sheath solidly even without buckling the two handle straps. A drop of mineral oil on the retainer tongue will assist in making knife removal easier from the sheath.The straight edge part of the blade came from the factory reasonable sharp but not sharp enough to slice paper. It only took a few passes over a fine ceramic rod before I was able to slice razor thin slivers off the edges of a sheet of paper.Overall, this is a high quality knife made in the U.S.A. and there are no comparable survival knives out there that comes close in terms of features, quality and value. This knife has exceeded all my expectations and is truly exceptional.
